Chapter 36 - Trial

The wolf was a fierce beast of level six, with strength equal to that of a sixth-level body refinement martial artist who was perfecting their physique. Leo had used the blood of a savage wolf to draw the Wild Explosion scroll.

Leo dared not ignore the ferocious wolf that had materialized out of nowhere. He was currently at the great success level of the fourth stage of body-refining, yet the strength gap between them was still not small.

The wild wolf had already found Leo at that moment. Its bright emerald eyes radiated a deadly, blood-curdling radiance. It ran toward him, howling.

Even in the face of this vicious, powerful wolf, Leo remained fearless. He calmly demonstrated the Large Foundation Fist's movements, and then, in response to the ferocious wolf's rush, he abruptly retreated, launched an attack, and smashed his fist viciously on the savage wolf's waist.

This punch really touched the air when it shot out. Leo saw the vicious wolf's body in front of his eyes start to disintegrate and then vanish into thin air, until the vision vanished entirely, just as he was astonished by it.

Leo realized all of a sudden. It had seemed much too real, even if, up until now, it had been an illusion. Leo had thought that the vicious wolf's look, its movements, and its rushing attack had all been perfectly genuine when it had pounced.

Normally, a killing array and an illusory array are mixed, but for this evaluation, the Zephyr Blade Sect did not include the killing array. Leo would have perished in real life as well if they had included the killing array and he had failed to slay the ferocious wolf.

When Leo had cooled down from the test, several of the participants on the sword testing platform had gone white with dread. Although their eyes were securely clenched, their bodies were spasming, as if they had been in a horrific circumstance.

Martial artists who had these signs were briefly automatically transported out of the sword testing platform, appearing underneath the platform.

Only after leaving the enchanted circle did those martial artists gradually open their eyes. They were initially perplexed, but soon realized that they were no longer on top of the sword testing platform. Their features quickly expressed sadness; it was clear that they had already failed. They had failed to go through even the first mental strength test.

They had just been in the illusion and had witnessed a variety of powerful, dangerous monsters; yet, they did not dare to fight back and instead attempted to flee. They were then pursued and slaughtered by the fierce monsters. They'd watched as the terrible monsters ripped their bodies apart. That type of terror was unspeakable.

"Isn't these folks' courage a little too small? They couldn't even get through the first trial." Freya's lips twitched.

The first trial of the mental strength test assessed a person's bravery. They would be able to pass if they had the bravery to face those deadly monsters. It was the simplest trial in the mental strength exam.

Even if these martial artists had continued to cultivate, it would have been useless because they had not even had the confidence to fight when faced with an adversary.

"Leo looks good so far," the ninth uncle said, chuckling a little but without passing judgment. "He didn't even blink and passed the trial in an instant. I doubted he could have done it."

Cassia looked at ninth uncle before saying, "You doubted and still placed the bet?"

The ninth uncle smiled and didn't reply.

Cassia smiled slightly and added, "When he was body refining third level, he dared to fight a body refining fourth level martial artist in the martial arena. How could there be a situation in which he did not dare to fight?"

In the courage test, the greater the martial artist's courage, the simpler it was to pass. Those who hadn't even flinched and hit it would undoubtedly pass the trial, while those who were afraid would be stuck for a short length of time, even if they weren't eliminated.

Several martial artists had their faces wrinkled up and scowled at this point on the sword testing platform. Obviously, they were still in the first trial, battling to the death with those nasty creatures.

Alden was the same. He tightened his hands and gritted his teeth while doing who knows what.

It wasn't only Leo who had passed the bravery trial in a flash. Franklin and Russell were likewise highly confident about themselves. Naturally, they would not be terrified of these fearsome monsters.

The three of them virtually all joined the second trial at the same time, immediately distinguishing themselves from the rest. Elder Tren couldn't help but smile after witnessing Franklin's impressive performance.

The scenery shifted again. The woodlands in front of Leo vanished, becoming a sad battleground.

The overall vibe was depressing. Heaps of disfigured bodies were at his feet. The description of a mountain of dead people and a sea of blood was not exaggerated. There were many surviving troops next to him. His identification at the time appeared to be that of a soldier entering a huge fight.

And at this point, an enormously loud war cry erupted. Leo lifted his head to look around and saw innumerable individuals holding swords in their hands, their faces sad. They began charging towards him. The smoke swept through, and the sounds were overwhelming.

"Kill!"

There came again another wave of endless yells. This time, it came from people on Leo's side. The combat started anew. Countless more troops raced past him as they raced at the enemy force.

Seeing such a gruesome sight, Leo couldn't help but feel a surge of bloodlust, wanting to go on a killing spree—but he instantly closed his eyes, reverting to his normal mental state, and suppressing the desire and bloodlust.

After he regained his composure and cleansed his mind, the battling armies vanished altogether, and the entire universe shattered again. He had passed the trial once more.

When Ninth Uncle and the others noticed that Leo had only scowled briefly before relaxing again, they instantly smiled: "This boy breezed through the second challenge. He suppressed the desire and bloodlust in his heart. Not bad. Not bad."

Elder Tren's expression darkened as he saw Leo pass another challenge in a flash. Franklin's expression was intense, clearly engrossed in the murder. It appeared that he would not pass within an hour and a half.

"Elder Tren, this Franklin's heart for killing isn't small, ah." Ninth Uncle noticed and said to Elder Tren.

When Ninth Uncle pointed it out, Elder Tren was irritated and snorted, "As a powerful martial artist, of course there will be some heart for killing."

"Elder Tren, your remarks aren't exactly correct. This is unrelated to whether or not there is a desire to kill." Cassia stated gently, "They plainly understand it is a delusion, but they still let loose and enjoy slaughtering. It can only be concluded that their self-control is insufficient. In the future, they must avoid cultivation and follow a path of darkness and temptation."

Cassia firmly pointed out the shortcomings. With nothing to say, Elder Tren could only silently condemn Franklin for his lack of maturity.

Naturally, Leo had no idea what was going on outside. He had breezed through two trials in a flash and was now on to the third.

Moving on to the third trial, the scene differed from the first and second trials. It wasn't severe or bloody.

He appeared in a luxuriously decorated, stunning, and cozy pavilion. There were scarlet veils and the aroma of incense, which may soothe a person's heart. It was genuinely a peaceful space.
