Jylan, after drinking the potion, which tasted like cranberries, slowly untied his blindfold. He could hear Sebastian holding his breath, but nevertheless, he opened his eyes and blinked. Almost instantly all his other senses, which had been heightened till then, disappeared. His hearing was normal, so were his senses of smell and touch.
The vial had worked.
Sebastian was staring at him.
"Jylan, you're eyes…"
"What about my eyes?"
"They're a lot lighter than they were before." Sebastian said. Jylan blinked at him, and then rubbed his eyes. It felt strange after so many days of not being able to see.
"Jylan. There's something else here too." Sebastian said, reaching his hand back into the hole, and pulling out a second piece of paper. Jylan watched curiously. Sebastian unfolded it, read it, and then handed it to him.
"The blue lake. Isn't that near here?" Jylan asked, and Sebastian shook his head. "The blue lake is the name for this sea, since it's on the smaller side. This is the Blue Lake." Jylan stared at the paper for a minute more, trying to think. Sebastian was staring at the paper too, until he looked up.
"Maybe it's not exactly the sea. It could be this ship."
They both looked at eachother, and then both crouched next to the pipe.
Their last hope.
Then there was a boom, a crash, and a blinding flash, and then everything was quiet yet again. Jylan felt soft grass below his palms, and a breeze ruffling his hair. Birds squaked above in the blue sky. Someone else - not Sebastian - waslaying next to him. Someone who looked exactly like Sebastian.
King Rudolph, but younger and 18.
