Jylan was trying. He was.
But he wasn't perfect.
Because if characters were perfect I, the author, would simply be jealous of them. This is why Jylan was now sitting alone on the balcony, staring out at the moonless night. Even the stars had given up on him because he couldn't see anything in the pitch-black. Jylan sighed loudly, and somewhere in the distance, a bird squawked.
"Why do I always mess everything up … what Sebas said was probably a slip," Jylan said, to no one in particular. "I should apologize to him." He added. Then, from behind him, came a voice.
"Apologize to me for what?"
Jylan turned to see Sebastian. He was leaning against the wall, and his face was expressionless. Then, suddenly, it turned embarrassed and bright red.
"I- I mean! Butler, if you don't want to see me, I'll go…" Sebastian said quickly, scratching his ear, and Jylan smiled, then tapped the spot next to him with a hand.
"No way. Sit next to me." Jylan said.
Sebastian wordlessly sat next to him, and they stared out at the darkness together.
"Do you like the darkness, Prince?" Jylan asked. Sebastian was still for a minute, and then he said, "Well, I don't like or hate it. I suppose it's something we all have to deal with, anyway, so there's no point in me hating it." A pause. Then. "Do you hate a lot of things then, My Prince?" Jylan asked, and Sebastian sighed. "No, I don't. Why are you asking me this?"
When Jylan turned to him, he could see blue eyes shining faintly in the darkness.
"Why not? I like you. I want to know you."
