Sebastian was almost asleep when he heard the door open. His dreams and weariness were scattered off, leaving him blinking awake. After having a long history of assassin attacks, or at least reading about them, he learned it was best to let the attacker think he was asleep, or at least that was what he had read. Now he hoped it was right or at least guiding him in the right direction, so he closed his eyes and tried to make his face expressionless.
Sebastian slowly reached a hand for the knife under his pillow.
Then he spotted polished leather shoes out of the corner of his eye. Jylan.
He let go of the knife and still pretended to be asleep. What was the butler going to do while he wasn't awake? Steal? Or… Try to kill him? Sebastian tried to calm his breathing as the footsteps of the butler grew closer, trying to look asleep.
"Come on, dear butler. Show me what you'll do behind my back. Surprise me." Sebastian thought to himself.
Then he heard the butler muttering about something.
"True love's kiss, true love's kiss…" the butler breathed, pacing closer. Now Sebastian's breath caught in his throat. What exactly was this butler doing?
And then the butler leaned down, gently grabbed the prince's shirt, and kissed him.
Sebastian was stunned hopelessly speechless, and the butler quickly got up, wiped his mouth on his sleeve, and exited the room.
The prince how jolted awake and sat up as the clock struck midnight with a loud chime.
"What just happened…?"
