Synopsis

Chapter 1 - “The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well.”

Protagonist in anime mostly start by saying, "I am just an ordinary high school kid." Yet usually this is not the case. One way or another he/she is able to build his own harem and gets the "happy ever after".

I was once a child who saw this. A child who had great expectations and believed that life would go as a plot of an anime.

However, it didn't…..

I say this to you dear reader. Never have your expectations based on someone experience for the past is theirs and the present is yours.

It is better to have no expectations in life than to disappoint yourself.

"What is this guy's deal? He sounds like an old man talking.", would be what you might think.

Feel free to skip past this book, but I promise you, don't make the same mistakes as I did.

My name is Kuzumi Yuuka. Kuzumi as in "Dull" and Yuuka as in "Fragrance". My parents were from Japan but moved to an English country when I was born. As I result I knew both Japanese and English.

~

The year 2013,

It was my first day in kinder garden. As I saw the large worn-out sign of the school, I burst into tears.

I always hated school. The days at the nursery I don't remember learning anything except sleeping.

Using all the strength that a 4-year-old had, I tried to stop my mother from entering to the school. My mother sighed as she realized that this was not going to be easy as she thought

I was crying my eyes out, screaming protests…anything to stop me from going there.

"Come on Kuzumi-kun, please stop crying.", my mother begged but I didn't seem to listen.

My Dad, being the rough person he was, took me into his arms and walked towards the school, ignoring my protests and screams.

"Go sit down and stop crying.", said my Dad sternly, as he talked to the teacher. Sobbing softly, I made my way to the back of the class and sat down.

It was the first day of kindergarden and nobody seem to be around as we had arrived quite early.

All I remember was staring at a box that said "Crayons" as I had no more tears left to cry.

I don't remember much of what happened that day.

All I remember was waiting and waiting until this hellhole finished as I had no sense of reading the time.

======================================

"Bring your books to me, I want to correct it", said the teacher.

My heart skipped a beat as I heard this. I overheard some in my class say that the teacher was very strict and would often hit the students.

"Uh excuse me. Did you ask for this pool of water?"

An worker at the kindergarden came forward with a rubber pool filled with water (It was small so could be easily carried).

"Oh yes! I need that for something.", exclaimed the teacher.

The "something" she had in her mind was to put expandable toys in the pool of water to show us "magic", or so she called.

Even though it sounds pretty lame, it wasn't for us 4-year olds.

Sounds of excitement ran around my classmates, except me. The pool of water was so close to the teacher that I couldn't help but be afraid that I was going to fall in it from nervousness.

"Kuzumi! Come here!", shouted the teacher.

I shuddered in fear and made my way towards her.

"Why did you answer number 4 as A? Weren't you listening in class?"

It might be an unreasonable thing to ask a 4 year old, since you are filled with energy and had trouble paying attention at all.

However, this was not the case for us students at Iorukawa.

("Iorukawa" is the schooling branch that has all the grades from elementary to highschool at one place. Students who finish kinderguardan go to Iorukawa Middle School and so on.)

The students at Iorukawa are called as "exceptional" students as the school focuses mainly on discipline and giving harsh education.

Therefore, the expectations set on a 4-year old are pretty high.

"S-sorry Miss. D, I forgot it."

The teacher gave me a face of anger and I nervously took a step back.

*Splash *Splash

I fell down on my butt and splashed all the water, soaking myself from head to toe.

Tears escaped my eyes, but they seemed to just mix with the water.

The rest of it was a blur. I remember myself crying and sobbing as I sat down at my seat, ignoring the teacher's retorts and the laughter of my classmates.

"I hate it! I hate it!", I shouted at my parents but they paid me no heed.

My mom tried to come for my comfort but she was strictly told of by my father.

"He needs to know the hardships of being a man in society."

It was the end of the school year. I was moving onto middle school after summer break.

"Kuzumi is really quiet at the class and does his work really well.", my homeroom teacher said to my parents at the end-of-year parent's meeting.

"However, his term end results say otherwise.", said my father looking disappointed.

I felt as if I was going to burst into tears seeing his reaction but my mother quickly nudged him.

He quickly put on a kind smile as he remembered that they were talking about a kindergarden not a highschool kid.

"W-well likewise, it's just kinderguardan. He has a lot of potential and would definitely succeed ahead", said the teacher smiling and patting my head.

Feeling happy inside I smiled back, hoping that the teachers words were true.

If only it was that simple.

It was my 12th birthday. Some of my father's friends visited us and we had a mini birthday party.

My parents gifted me a digital watch. It wasn't anything fancy but I considered it as a gem.

It was my first gift from my parents and I wanted to treasure it as much as possible.

I wore it every day, going to school and sometimes even when I went to sleep.

"You know you aren't supposed to bring rice to school."

It was Monday at lunch when I met him.

Nami Satori.

"Huh?", I asked back not understanding what he said.

"The school doesn't allow you to bring rice to lunch. I thought you knew that."

A dreaded feeling creeped into my heart.

'If I get a complaint by the school, not only would I be punished, I would be grounded by my parents.'

"P-please don't report it to the principal. I'll do anything you want."

Tears reached my eyes as I begged him not to do so.

"Okay. Give me the watch you are wearing. Then I would not say a word to anyone."

I gave it to him without hesitation, eager to save my own skin.

Afterwards, I came home and my parents asked me where my watch was.

Upon hearing what I had to say, my father just said it was alright and left me. I was relieved to hear that he wasn't mad and I had the assumption that I took the right decision. However, that night, all that came was tears.

"I can't believe our son is so stupid.", my dad said, arguing with my mom.

"Honey, please…."

"No. He turned out like this because you keep pampering and spoiling him. A man should be strong to carry a family single handed in the future. Not be a gullible fool who falls for everything. "

I sobbed in my room as I heard them.

I had now already realized I was fooled.

'Maybe I can get it back from him.", I thought to myself, wanting to fix things right.

I never got it back.
