"Warp duration estimated at three minutes. All systems nominal."

The ship's AI voiced out.

"Great."

Leon muttered to himself, leaning back in his chair as he did so. His breathing was still ragged, and any attempt he made to steady it was a failure.

He had to think clearly.

His primary task was to report what he'd seen and heard to the fleet. But how could he get them to take it seriously?

The fleet wasn't exactly known for its responsiveness. Bureaucracy was thick in the Federal Military, and messages often got lost in the endless chains of command.

Even if he made it back to the fleet, he couldn't guarantee anyone important would actually hear him out, and even if they did, would they act fast enough?

A sinking feeling was all he felt in his gut.
