Chapter 58 - Consortium

At the Triskelion headquarters of S.H.I.E.L.D., Director Nick Fury, his one eye piercing through the seriousness of the moment, scrutinized a document on his desk.

"The person behind Morgan Biotech... who killed Hydra operatives... possesses freezing abilities, flight, a body resilient enough to withstand nuclear blasts, and lightning speed..." Fury muttered, reiterating Johnny's abilities described in the report.

"This isn't the era of mutants anymore; it's like we've entered the era of mythology," he concluded, his frown deepening as he pondered the complexities before him.

"Director, Congress has approved it. They're arranging for the military to attempt contact with Johnny through deeper cooperation with Morgan Biotech. The orders from the top are clear: we must establish a good relationship with him and, if possible, recruit him," Fury's deputy reminded him, trying to alleviate some of his burden.

Fury sighed deeply, a mixture of frustration and powerlessness in his voice. Although S.H.I.E.L.D. was powerful, situations like these often required solutions beyond conventional means.

"It's impossible to recruit such an entity. If we want stronger power, we need to cultivate it ourselves. How is the construction of the cube progressing?" Fury asked, shifting to a topic indirectly related to the current predicament.

The deputy, caught off guard, responded, "The preliminary preparations are complete. The top scientists and engineers at S.H.I.E.L.D. have collaboratively finalized all designs. The defense systems are extremely stringent. Should we commence construction now?"

"Not yet. Given the current situation, the cube's design needs revising. Tell the lead engineer that the cube I need is designed for perverts," Fury commanded, waving his hand dismissively, a hint of irritation evident in his demeanor.

The deputy nodded, taking note of Fury's instructions, understanding the gravity and urgency behind them. Fury, meanwhile, leaned back in his chair, contemplating the challenges ahead and the strategic moves necessary to secure S.H.I.E.L.D.'s future in an increasingly unpredictable world.

Before the mutant crisis, Fury had already decided to build the most secure prison in the world. However, now it seemed that the various measures and technologies of this prison were far from sufficient in terms of security.

"Convey my instructions and have the research center initiate the Goliath Project and the Perseus Project," Fury ordered, after a brief hesitation.

"What? Director, but..." his deputy began, only to be interrupted.

"I'll take care of everything!" Fury cut in sharply.

Hearing about the Goliath and Perseus Plans, the deputy was clearly stunned and was about to protest but fell silent upon Fury's insistence.

"In addition, send our best agent to infiltrate Morgan Biotechnology, monitor the target person, and report back at any time. If possible, this person could become the strongest backbone of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the future," Fury added as his deputy was about to leave.

Although Fury doubted the likelihood of recruiting someone as powerful as Johnny, he couldn't ignore the potential benefits. Johnny's immense power had not only attracted the attention of the highest U.S. authorities but also led them to try hard to recruit him. Amidst the swirling undercurrents, Fury focused his sights on Johnny.

"Yes, sir!" The deputy quickly departed, leaving Fury alone in his office, where he fell into deep contemplation.

"The times are progressing too fast. Even humans are evolving. S.H.I.E.L.D. will need a lot of fresh blood..." he mused.

"This is today's newspaper and some valuable intelligence recently, Master!" Medusa said playfully as she placed the newspaper and a file in front of Johnny in his beachfront villa.

Johnny picked up the newspaper and flipped through it, finding mostly gossip about popular celebrities, which did not interest him.

"Medusa, how is the company's recent development?" Johnny asked, putting down the newspaper and casually opening the file containing a lot of intelligence.

Medusa's smile remained as she began her report. "The company is doing well, Master. We've seen a significant increase in our biotechnology advancements. Our latest projects are moving ahead of schedule, and we've managed to secure several lucrative contracts."

Johnny nodded, glancing through the intelligence file. "Good. Keep an eye on any potential threats or opportunities. We need to stay ahead."

"Of course, Master," Medusa replied, her tone serious. "I will make sure everything is managed properly."

Johnny leaned back, considering his next moves. With the knowledge of the Goliath and Perseus Projects in Fury's hands, he knew he needed to stay vigilant. The landscape was changing rapidly, and he had to be prepared for whatever came next.

Since Medusa took over Morgan Bio, the company's development has not only remained steady but accelerated, showcasing her talent and management skills. Johnny asked her about the company's progress.

"It's all good. The company's market value has been growing steadily, and the stock has been soaring recently. Additionally, we've been buying back outstanding shares, with the owner now controlling nearly 80%. The remaining 20% in circulation has seen its value skyrocket, and holders are reluctant to sell even at high prices," Medusa reported.

"Very good, but not enough," Johnny's eyes gleamed with ambition. "What I need is not just a huge company, but a consortium that can influence the political situation."

Medusa was taken aback. The term "consortium" carried implications far beyond mere financial wealth. In capitalist nations, a consortium held immense power, influencing political outcomes and even presidential elections.

"Currently, Morgan Bio isn't short of money, but our influence is lacking. The company needs to recruit a group of politicians and dignitaries. Do you understand what I mean? You can refer to how Hellfire operates; they have deep connections in the upper echelons. This process will take time, so don't feel pressured. Take your time," Johnny advised with a reassuring smile.

Medusa, excited by Johnny's vision, soon grew thoughtful. She realized that the rise of a new consortium would inevitably clash with the interests of existing ones.

"Chairman, if we develop well, will other consortiums..."

"Don't worry, I'll handle it!" Johnny's smile was confident. He was prepared to deal with any dirty tricks. After all, he controlled not only Morgan Biotech but also the Hellfire Club.

"By the way, Master, the company's recent rapid development has a lot to do with the attitude of the bureau. Their cooperation with us seems almost too generous. The military industry leader in charge hinted that they know of your connection to the company. I think they want to show goodwill and possibly recruit you, given your extraordinary power," Medusa mentioned with a mischievous smile.

"They want to recruit me? Interesting. Don't pay them too much attention. They won't dare to act rashly. Just be prepared for an influx of 'newcomers' joining the company soon. You don't need to worry too much about them, understand?" Johnny instructed after contemplating the situation.

The U.S. military knowing his details meant other forces likely did too. He anticipated a wave of agents and spies infiltrating Morgan Biotech to test the waters.

"I understand," Medusa replied. Her sharp mind quickly grasped Johnny's implications without needing further explanation.
