An adverse swift of the car wheel, he reversed making the protesters drift astray.
"They can't see through the window, it was tinted," He said, knowing the reason she was so afraid.
Instead, she lowered her gaze and muttered, "I'm fine," her voice barely above a whisper as she responded to his first question.
Alpha Vesper studied her for a moment, his brow furrowed, this time it wasn't because of worry but to tease her, "Fine? You don't look fine," he said gently. "You're shaking like a leaf."
Her gaze darted up and widened like a toad. She didn't realize how obvious her fear was until he said so. "I'm just...nervous," she admitted.
Elara hadn't let out that whisper when Alpha Vesper reached out to place his hand on her hands as they were still shaking nervously.
"There's nothing to be nervous about," he said, having his tone changed to a reassuring one. "You are getting to find your wolf and you look stunning in that disguise."
Elara sharply shivered in her seat and her face blushed as both warmth and comfort were felt in his voice and hand.
A surge of feelings crossed her core speedily.
"Uhn..Uhn" Her throat geared and then asked, "You really think so?" her voice tinged with doubts making Vesper smile.
"It's the first time my wolf would surge out of me and be this far away. How does she get through to leave the palace?" She asked, still pondering on how she escaped and how the hell Vesper knew her whereabouts.
Observing her overall reaction, Alpha Vesper's eyes sparkled with amusement. "How can she be so innocent and clueless?" he snorted but seeing that her eyes hawked at him, a teasing smile played on his lips. "You could pass for a supermodel in that dress." He said simply, eyeing the outfit.
This brought Elara's attention to it. She felt a rush of warmth flood her cheeks at his compliment. For a while, a smile didn't leave her face. Alpha Vesper saw the subsequent curving of her lips and smiled lopsidedly.
In the two years that her misery started, Elara could say, this was the first time she genuinely felt at peace even though it was short and amidst chaos... but then, she forgot what was like to be a slave.
Maybe, just maybe, she could be well-assured around him.
Her gaze met with him but he was now stoic and calmly made a straight face as he concentrated on driving. A similar expression to that of Alpha Harlan. This made her remember him.
'Gosh! That man! She didn't even think about him since she woke up?'
Her gaze fell in guilt, however, it widened with shock as she saw that her hand was still held by Vesper's.
At the realization, she removed her hand. Alpha Vesper raised his brow at her without a word, tightened his grip, and made a straight face to the front as though he did nothing.
Elara scoffed, hawking at him.
"Do you wish to find your wolf?" He asked, his expression was still stoic yet calm.
While Elara was still pondering on how that concerned her wolf, she replied, "Of course yes. Otherwise, I won't be here but why are you doing this?" Her head nudged to the hand that was held captive.
"Then just stay still...huh?" He mumbled, more like asking her to let him do his work.
*****
Hours later, Elara opened her eyes as Alpha Vesper pulled the car to a stop. Her eyes rolled and surprise took over as she saw the surroundings with which they parked.
"Guess you have a sound sleep." He asked teasingly upon seeing how drooling Elara opened her eyes.
To her surprise, Vesper was still holding her hand but this time, he intertwined his fingers with hers.
Elara sat properly, feeling awkward and just fixated on their locked fingers.
"How did you feel now?" he asked wanting to know if Elara felt the presence of her wolf nearer, "Did you feel her presence?" He asked and remotely opened the door.
Elara wandered her gaze around as they alighted from the car, "I feel her but she's still far away." She was amused as the temperature of where they were was too familiar. Not wanting to believe her feelings, she asked Vesper, "Where is this place?"
The twilight sun was about sleeping as the blond rays pierced through the rustling leaves of trees, reaching to them with a warm breeze.
Without waiting for Vesper to respond, Elara asked him with an expectant tone. "We are in the Artic Forest?!"
As though the realization was just dumb on Vesper, he also observed the atmosphere, "I guess so."
Elara's heart raced. Leaving Vesper on his stand, she ran deeper into the forest with panic, "Lyas?" She screamed, almost having her gut busted.
"What was she looking for to have come this far? How the hell does she get here?" She was breathing pantingly, not knowing the exact path to take.
"Just calm yourself. You should be able to locate her from here." Alpha Vesper mumbled while keeping up with her pacing.
Elara already has a stream of tears dripping from her eyes. Thinking about the hell she passed through inside the Forest, she had vowed never to enter it in this her lifetime.
Her heart kept sinking at each of her paces.
"Was she kidnapped by a chance?"
"I didn't see anyone with her," Vesper responded to her murmur.
Elara stopped abruptly. It made him staggered upon stopping, "You saw her?"
Her cry instantly turned to rage as she spoke. "You'd saw her? Why do you lie to me?"
"I didn't, I just happened to see her when I held your hands," Vesper responded instantly, then realized that a spark of fear crossed his heart like when Harlan questioned using his Alpha authority.
'Did her alpha authority just work on me!' He pondered.
Before he realized it, Elara was distanced far from him. Shouting and calling for Lyas. Her voice echoed her fear and trembles.
Alpha Vesper rushed to her and gripped her to stop as though he couldn't withstand seeing her astray in the forest. "Leave it to me." He said, his voice was mellow and filled with concern.
"Don't touch me! " Elara aggressively pulled her hand off, "I'm enough to find her!" She spurred and anger was visible in her voice.
Alpha Vesper was confused, literally surprised. "What?"
Rather, Elara made a straight face at him and squealed, "I said I am enough to find her! Get f*ck off!"
This caused him to flinch. Staring at her with a wide gaze of awe. Does she just utter the F-word to his face?
"F*ck what?"
