Rock turned around, calmly responding, "Captain, I've already completed my probationary period in advance."
Captain Tom immediately looked to Mona, seeing her nod, he pursed his lips, "Okay, officer, how did you discover this camera?"
Rock replied, "It's quite simple. I was a quarterback on the football team, and I've always had keen observation skills."
"Stop..."
Captain Tom gestured for Rock to come in, "How did you discover this camera? Where were you standing at the time? Why did you speak up after finding it?"
Mona glared disapprovingly at Captain Tom, these series of questions clearly made Rock a suspect.
Captain Tom remained composed, his eyes piercing as he stared at Rock walking into the office, "Mona, don't you find this suspicious? Because this camera might have been planted by the person themselves!"
Unfazed by Captain Tom's bluff, Rock, standing where he found the camera, calmly explained, "I was standing right here. Mona asked me to come in to take Miss Daisy Greenberg's statement. When I came in, I noticed that Miss Greenberg seemed unwilling to cooperate. During the stalemate, I casually surveyed the office and immediately spotted the camera. It was aimed directly at the desk, so it's highly unlikely Miss Greenberg installed it. If she had, it would have been placed in that direction..."
He pointed to the back of the desk, a position allowing surveillance of the entire office.
He continued, "I informed Miss Greenberg of the camera to encourage her cooperation in recording her statement. She has agreed to come to Wilshire Police Station tomorrow to do so."
Captain Tom looked to Mona, who nodded, then nodded himself, "Keen observation. It's a pity we won't see you on the football field anymore. Officer, congratulations on completing your task. You may leave."
Rock turned and walked out, immediately spotting Daisy Greenberg and a dignified silver-haired old man outside. He wasn't sure how long they had been eavesdropping, but David quietly gave him a thumbs up.
Ignoring it, he continued to stand on the other side of the door, fulfilling his duty alongside Nathan.
The silver-haired old man, smartly dressed, curiously glanced at Rock and asked Daisy, "Daisy, did this officer discover the camera?"
"Yes," Daisy nodded, her gaze towards Rock unfriendly. Rock's words just now confirmed her suspicions, which offended her. If it weren't for getting her to cooperate in recording her statement, this cop might not have told her about the camera.
The silver-haired man extended his hand to Rock, "Thank you, officer!"
Rock shook hands confidently, "It's my duty, sir!"
He recognized the old man as Leif Hogwarts, one of the founders of Jeff Mark Law Firm, whom he had met a few times at events with Marian.
Daisy's face turned cold as she rolled her eyes inwardly at Rock, the lying bastard.
Leif withdrew his hand, then looked at Rock carefully, "Why do I feel like I've seen you before, officer?"
Rock sighed, "Perhaps at some event, Mr. Hogwarts..."
Leif smiled confidently, extending his hand to Rock again, "Glad to see you again. I'm Leif Hogwarts. I apologize for Daisy's previous behavior..."
Rock shook hands again, "Rock Lee, pleasure to serve you. Marian Lee is my mother..."
Leif looked shocked, then his smile became warmer, "I knew it! You're Marian's son. I remember you, the quarterback from CSU..."
Not a hint of surprise at a CSU quarterback becoming a patrolman, very cultured.
At this point, Captain Tom also greeted them. This captain of the detective bureau was no longer as neurotic as before, humbly greeting, "Mr. Hogwarts..."
Leif responded, "Captain Tom, I've heard of your great detective reputation. Glad you could come in person..."
He patted Rock's shoulder, "Rock, give my regards to Marian, and thanks again for your discovery..."
With that, he followed Captain Tom into the office.
As Daisy passed by Rock, she cast a cold glance at him, seemingly surprised to learn he was Marian Lee's son.
Rock remained unfazed, pretending not to notice.
Soon, the office began discussing the case, much to Rock's chagrin. He silently cursed the esteemed Miss Daisy Greenberg for being almost completely forthcoming with the detective bureau, a far cry from her previous aloof demeanor.
What surprised him even more was that the Russian nesting doll turned out to be a gift from Leif Hogwarts to Daisy Greenberg.
However, after further inspection, it was found that this Russian nesting doll was not the set Leif Hogwarts gave, it had been replaced, and it was custom-made, crafted with great precision. The camera used was of CIA-level quality, hence it wasn't easily detected.
Leif Hogwarts and Daisy Greenberg didn't stay long. They left shortly after.
As they left, Leif Hogwarts specifically greeted Rock.
Daisy Greenberg, on the other hand, didn't even spare him a glance.
The Captain who escorted them out began to look at him with suspicion again.
Rock cursed inwardly, what a lunatic!
An hour later, the detective bureau completed all the investigations, took the Russian nesting doll back for further analysis and testing, retrieved the video data inside, and also took the law firm's surveillance data.
The next steps were none of Rock's concern; the detective bureau would fully take over the case.
The case wasn't difficult. There weren't many people who could enter Daisy Greenberg's office. By comparing fingerprints on the Russian nesting doll, internal monitoring devices within the doll, and the stored video information, along with the law firm's surveillance videos, the perpetrator who placed the camera could be identified.
Of course, if Daisy Greenberg was willing to speak, there would be an even simpler way to solve the case.
Because there was another camera in her office, one that Daisy Greenberg likely installed herself, just in a more hidden location.
He had reminded them, but the bureau's forensic team hadn't found this camera.
Ending their guard duty at Jeff Mark Law Firm, Rock and the others resumed their patrol.
After bidding farewell to Mona and Nathan, Rock and David got into their car.
"7ada15, resuming patrol..."
After registering with the dispatch center, Rock started the car and headed towards their patrol route. Turning to David, he smiled, "Do you regret it, Mona is so young and she
's already a police chief, while you're still stuck outside guarding with me..."
David replied nonchalantly, "Kid, if I had regrets, they'd be from ten years ago! But don't waste your observation skills, maybe you can join the detective bureau..."
Putting on his sunglasses, he sighed, "Honestly, you joining the LAPD was a waste!"
Rock looked embarrassed, "David, I'm not as outstanding as you think..."
David gave him the finger, unkindly saying, "I mean your background. Knowing so many big shots, joining the LAPD seems like a waste!"
Rock retorted, "How do you know I can't become the Chief of Police in the future?"
David stared at Rock for a moment, considering the possibility. Originally intending to mock him, he found it might not be impossible. Shrugging, he said coldly, "Well, I still prefer Mexican burritos..."
Protecting his daughter was more important than the temptation of Chinese food.
Rock, wanting to goad him, continued, "Or perhaps, you could invite Catherine. It's a shame there weren't any deaths today, otherwise, we could've seen Catherine..."
"If there were deaths, you'd be plotting something against Catherine..."
"No, in China, there's an idiom called 'a feast for the eyes', meaning it's best to have a beauty accompany you when eating Chinese food. A beautiful woman and delicious food complement each other, it's a Chinese tradition..."
David was about to curse bullshit, but seeing Rock's serious expression, he was momentarily deceived. After hesitating, he said coldly, "I still prefer Mexican burritos..."
Protecting his daughter trumped the temptation of Chinese food.
