Words: Extinct
During a distinct point in history, the unyielding faith of the followers of a certain religion charmed the ignorant minds of the inhabitants of a treacherous country.
Law never roamed the streets nor was a concern of the people. Famine widened as the king savored the luxury he obtained, sparking turmoil throughout the collapsing country. Despair loomed the minds of those who begged on the side of the streets, stomachs growling in hunger as they stretched their hands to the pedestrians.
Hope was lost in the eyes of the famished. Until, an anonymous group of people started distributing unusual snacks. No matter how tasteless it was, people sang praises to the generous group while munching into the snack like there was no tomorrow. The anonymous group, who removed their hood, revealed themselves as the followers of the church of Demeter, the god of harvest. They delivered a message from the priest to the citizens.
Join the church of Demeter for she may grant you plentiful harvest to those who are faithful.
And thus, word reached the ears of those who refuse to taste death.
The fellowship only grew from there. Various people despised the rule of the king. Therefore, they placed their faith in the church who cared for their followers. The followers were fed three times a day and were provided a place to sleep so long as they stayed faithful to their god, unless they preferred to roam the street to beg for something to eat.
When someone becomes faithful to their god, they are required to participate in an exhibition where they travel to the neighboring kingdoms to share the word of the lord. Usually a group travels together once they are qualified enough to spread the influence of the church. Those people who participated never returned for months and even years.
Some of the followers became doubtful, demanding an explanation for their late return. However, the same people, who casted their doubts, disappeared overnight. Uncertainty grew in the minds of the followers as the disappearances became frequent.
Eventually, the tyrant king of the country was forced to step down from his position, bestowing his power to the new ruler. Under the rule of the newly appointed king, poverty and famine decreased, roads and buildings improved, various establishments for the lower class opened, and the economy was thriving. The country gradually became stable. Because of this, few people joined the church of Demeter.
There were those who wished to leave the church. However, the priests refused to acknowledge such a request. Therefore, false-hearted followers were confined within the palms of the church.
Countless unpleasant rumors spread about the church. The disappearances and discrimination of the followers of the church of Demeter reached the king's ears. Knights were sent to investigate the church, to uncover secrets never meant to be discovered. After a few fallen warriors finally, the truth was brought to light.
It was a dreadful sight. Hidden beneath the church was a pile of lifeless human bodies and equipment used to grind flesh. The followers who disappeared were brought here, to become the food fed to the faithful. The followers who craved for food were oblivious to the terrible taste of human flesh. Cannibalism.
And thus, the church of Demeter was abolished by the king and any record of the church ceased to exist.
