Thou shalt love,
But love ye only when it is a duty to love,
For only then can it be unceasingly secure,
Thou shall not, dare I say, swear by love,
Swear ye rather by eternity, for it is higher.
Does man ever say of sterling silver,
That it will stand the test of time?
Certainly not, for it is sterling silver.
What then of the thing most sublime?
Hasn't the love taken as duty won immutability?
Shall we, then, insult such by wishing to test it?
Can love beyond mere continuance suffer anxiety?
Certainly not, for it is higher than any proof of it.
The immutable does not become apparent by test.
Should love, then, set itself on fire to feed a sickness?
It is terrifying that for many a people that's the quest
But I oft wonder who suffers more from the sickness.
