Chereads / A Gambler's New World / Chapter 6 - Leveled up!

Chapter 6 - Leveled up!

Previously, both Cyrus and Tool participated in the recent program an academy was holding up. And of course, they passed by winning in a sparring match. As both of them are now in the lounge.

Cyrus had entered the lounge where the participants who had succeeded, seeing about 15 people, including himself. Wandering around to see that the lounge looks pretty fancy and rich already, a long table with what looks like a buffet. And of course, he saw Tool eating, now that they kind of get along, he decided to approach him.

"Hey Tool! Eating already just after winning?" He looks at him while raising an eyebrow. Tool slowly looks at Cyrus and nodding, eating cake and many more.

"Yeah. I need energy after all. And I see you won." Tool would turn towards Cyrus as he kept coming on the cake, looking eye to eye at him. "Oh yeah I did, I just got lucky, that's all." Cyrus said while laughing and scratching his hair. Tool nodded before noticing something different from him.

"Did your magic change?" Tool asked while raising an eyebrow, of course he noticed by using the skill: Check. As Cyrus would shrug, acting dumb to try and slip past that question. "What do you mean? Wasn't my magic always Light?" He scoffed, trying to see if he'll take the bait.

Tool had a dead stare at him while holding the spoon he's using for the cake, before responding with a normal. "Okay." Then going back to eating as if he had forgotten about it. Before getting interrupted by a certain person.

"Hey!" Someone shouted as it echoed throughout the lounge. Multiple students would look to whoever it was. And it was none other than the opponent that Tool had fought earlier, she was marching towards him furiously. Cyrus was looking at her confused. Before she'd stand behind him, whilst Tool was busy eating cake.

"Hey! I'm talking to you!" This gained attention around the lounge but most of the participants just ignored what was happening and continued on what they were doing. Tool turned around to see her again. "Oh. Hello there." He waves his spoon at her, while it made her pissed.

"Don't you 'Hello there' me! Do you know how embarrassing it was to lose to a commoner like you?!" She said in a very much angry tone, whilst Cyrus was watching and eating some food on the sidelines, Tool just shrugged since he didn't know how it felt to lose, he responded with. "Not really, I only felt what it was like to win against a noble."

This made her even annoyed and furious, slapping the plate of cake he had away from his hands, making him somehow shocked. As it was the only time Cyrus saw him react like that because he doesn't show his emotions that much.

"My cake.." Tool said feeling a bit down and gloomy, because he didn't want to waste food like that. Whilst she or Mary was still busy being mad at him. "Why won't you talk to me!" She said before raising her hand up, getting ready to slap her but Tool grabbed her wrist before she could even do it. Making her stunned in place while he looked at her.

Having a tight grip on her wrist as the strength difference between him and hers was known. She grunted trying to pull away but he didn't let that slide. Speaking back. "You're not worth my time. Get lost." He lets go of her as she looks at him in two different ways, she was afraid and she felt a weird emotion inside her. Holding her wrist from where he held her before turning around and walking away.

Tool was apologizing to the chefs who had prepared the food due to him respecting their hardwork. While Cyrus was currently checking up his status to see a big difference in his Reputation. "Holy.. I leveled up. And what happened to my passive?"

Name: Cyrus | Species: Human |

Rank: Beginner | Level: 12 | Occupation: Adventurer.

Skills: Imaginative.

Magic: Light.

Passive: ( Upgraded! ) Luck's Gambit! ( Your passive has been leveled up. Your time limit is now reduced from 777 Minutes to 420 Minutes. )

Timer for Luck's Gambit: 0 Minutes. ( The time you had wasted for not using Luck's Gambit has been used to be the replacement. )

Cyrus was surprised about the new stuff he had seen from both his Reputation and from his passive. Now being curious about the current skill he has, noticing the skill Shining Pillar he had done in the match was gone. "What's that skill? Show me a description."

The screen then disappeared as a new screen popped up, showing the description about the current skill he has.

( Imaginative is a skill based on the magic called Light. It all depends on the user's imagination. The skill has limitations and restrictions, being unable to instantly kill. Or to curse people. )

"...what in the actual-" Cyrus was at lost of words, as he couldn't believe the skill he had received just by leveling up, now beginning to think of something that he had always wanted. "Can I.. Can I make a certain gambling game a skill.." His addiction was showing once more, beginning to laugh deviously as other participants notice him.

"What's up with that dude?"

"I don't know.. But I think that's the guy who shot that beam of light earlier. He's probably a light user."

"Oh yeah, I'm surprised he beat a level 20. He might be trouble for us."

"But would you lose.."

"Uh, I don't know, what the fuck is that questio-"

As the people from the background kept talking, Cyrus was busy thinking of ways to use the skill he has and how to use Light magic properly to his abilities. Then noticing Tool coming back. "Oh hey. What are you doing?" Tool asked while raising an eyebrow. Cyrus responded back. "Trying to make a skill.." He sighed while feeling down since he still doesn't know how to use magic correctly.

Tool then asked. "I could teach you if you want." While nodding, and of course Cyrus immediately accepted. "It's no big deal. I was taught by my parents and teacher back when I was a kid. Until I murdered them." Cyrus casually stared at Tool not expecting that kind of response, as he tried to ignore it but couldn't. "Say what-"

Until one of the head instructors had cleared his throat. It may have been quiet, but due to how strong the vibration of what he did, made every student notice and look at him. They know he's not a casual magic user.

"Greetings. As you all may know, all of you have passed the tests. And I want to congratulate you all for being able to be at least.. competent." The head instructor said, making the students feel a bit overwhelmed and nervous, yet some were smiling since they knew this one is going to be hard to impress. Cyrus was one of them.

"And now, all 80 of you, who have passed, will be assigned to different classrooms, and different classes. 20 of you, each room, but of course, there are more. As for now enjoy yourselves in this lounge. It was a pleasure to meet you all." The head instructor then gave all of them a bow, before raising his head up to eye at some certain students. Including Cyrus and Tool, as if they had caught his attention. Before leaving the room.

Cyrus couldn't help but notice how he felt suddenly vibrations around the room, it made him think what kind of magic he had. "Do you think he probably used Dark or Spirit magic?" He looked at Tool, while Tool responded with a shake, disagreeing. "I don't think so. No Dark or Spirit magic can make a room tremble. It's possible he is a skilled Earth user."

Cyrus couldn't help but feel intimated, just by feeling the room tremble due to the head instructor clearing his throat, can be a bit scary after all. "Damn.. Then he's probably one of the strongest there is."

"It's possible. Oh yeah, want to hangout and have me teach you how to use Light magic?" Tool said while eating an apple that he took from the table of food in the lounge. Of course Cyrus nodded accepting his offer.

The two were currently at an empty training area, seeing such as target practices, dummies, and more. Tool and Cyrus standing in front of one another with some distance, with Tool letting out a sigh. "Alright. So Light magic is very different from the other types. You'd have to be able to use your imagination for it. For example. Sun."

Once Tool said the word: Sun, a white shining glove appeared on his hands, as Cyrus observed making sure he knows what the other is doing. "So this is one of the few handmade skills I have. Sun. It's ability is to absorb magic fired at me. If combined with Moon, my magic would be doubled and it enhanced Moon's damage."

"That's pretty amazing! I didn't know you could make your own skill, I thought it would just be there in the Reputation.." Cyrus chuckled while scratching his hair, as Tool made his skills disappear, before letting him try it. "It's simple as you think. Just focus on what you wish to use as a skill. A reference for example."

As Cyrus began thinking, he remembered a simple game that he found fun. Beginning to recreate that item through Light magic. Appearing as.. "A coin?" Tool asked while folding his arms, being confused and curious why he made a coin. "Oh no, not just any coin my dear friend. This coin is called Flip! It has the ability to damage my opponent if they guess wrong. Basically heads and tails of course."

Tool was somehow impressed. "Can I try it?" With Cyrus nodding in response, flipping the coin up in the air then catching it as he covered it underneath his hand. "Go ahead." Tool then began thinking, before answering to see what would happen. "Heads." Once he opens his hand, it was indeed heads, making Cyrus sigh before patting Tool's shoulder. "You.. Are one lucky man. Though, if you had lost that gamble, you would get impaled by a spear." He said happily, as if it wasn't going to kill the person teaching him.

Tool on the other hand just nodded in response before asking. "Although, what if they don't answer?" Tilting his head, and of course. Cyrus had already came up with a backup plan. "Ah that! Well if they don't answer for at least 10 seconds, they'll get unlucky for about 1 day. So either they guess if it's heads or tails and win. Or don't guess and have bad luck for an entire day. It's pretty much a win-win-lose for me!" He chuckled, Cyrus was also thinking of many ways to come up with magic that reminded him of gambling.

While Tool just understood and was relieved he wasn't impaled by a spear or had gotten bad luck. "You're a quick learner I see."

"Yeah well, we gotta survive after all." Cyrus nodded while smiling, Tool just nodded back before asking. "Wanna go back? They might announce something. And we shouldn't miss it."

Cyrus nodded in response, as both him and Tool began walking back to the lounge. The two now beginning to enjoy and ease up in one another's company. Beginning to accept their new friendship.

To be continued.
