Kade lowered himself to sit beside Ren. His gaze softened as he brushed silver strands from Ren's flushed face. "Wake up, my sweet. Don't scare me anymore, okay?"
Fifteen minutes of the fainting spell were long since over. So, when Ren heard the worry lacing Kade's voice, he could not resist opening his eyes.
The first thing he saw was the enlarged, handsome face of his worried lover. The second thing was the way those wine-red eyes lit up the moment Kade noticed him awake.
Marshal knelt beside the bed; his face so close to the pillow that Ren could feel the familiar cold breath surrounding him. It gave him an instant comfort.
"Hey, baby," Kade spoke lowly. His deep voice was softer than usual, as if afraid to scare his finally awake lover.
"How are you feeling?" Kade asked while he touched Ren's forehead. It was not that hot anymore. Relieved, his fingers moved to caress the still reddened cheeks.
