Ren chuckled when he looked at his spiritual beast, his eyes shimmering with happiness that was hard to ignore.
"Don't make such a weird face, Fu Xian. Tell me what the punishment is for an immortal if he breaks his marriage vows?"
His words made the little cub even more worried. Howbeit, it still answered Ren's question.
"The immortal will be sentenced to suffer in the lower worlds with the fate of the worse cannon fodder. But... why are you calling me Fu Xian?"
The cub wasn't in its human form, and Ren had never called it by his friend's name in normal times.
Fu Xian's ears perked up in surprise, and for a moment, the little god wondered if the medicine had affected Ren's mind.
But before Fu Xian could voice its concern, it was interrupted by the sound of Ren's laughter
Ren's eyes crinkled with mirth, and a genuine smile stretched across his lips, reaching his eyes for the first time since he had woken up.
