CHAPTER ONE
Grey glared at his captor, his eyes filled with tears threatening to fall as the man pointed a gun to his mother.
"You see ? This is what happens when your father doesn't do as he is told" the man spat
"Please! Let us go" She responded in tears. " I'll do everything to get you the documents!"but the man slapped her in response.
"You're about to die and you still dare talk back at me" he boomed in anger pulling his hair. "I'll make an example of you" he said hitting her a second time.
Grey bit the hand of the guard who had a hand squeezing his mouth shut. The guard hissed in pain staring at his bruised palm and Grey took that as an opportunity to escape.
He ran towards his mother and wrapped his small hands around her. "I love you mum, so much! I'll protect you"
The man scuffed. "All of you are a bunch of morons!" He gestured for the guard to pick him up, and stared at the watch in his hand. The guard looked at little Grey pitifully as he grasped his mother with all his might.
"No never! I'll never leave you mum" he cried but was successfully pulled away from his mother.
"This is a joke" the man said indignantly, "I have no more time to waste playing games" he lifted up his gun and shot, hitting her in the stomach.
Grey watched in horror as his mum fought for her life. Fighting out of the guards grasp again, he ran towards his bleeding mother.
"Mum! Mum! Please don't die" he pleaded holding her bleeding stomach.
The man shook his head, "you think you're so brave boy? You should grow up to be better than your father, then you can have a chance at life" and Grey shuddered at his words.
The man glanced back at his watch with impatiently. "Tick Tock! Tick Tock!" He said with a quiet voice. "Oops. Time is up" and before Grey could comprehend what was happening, there was another loud sound of a gunshot.
He folded in fright holding his ears as the sound of a sinister laugh filled the air. He slowly looked up and saw his mother's lifeless body. He looked up at the man trying to get a glimpse of his face but he had a mask on.
Grey launched at him trying to get the mask off, but was pulled away by the guards. The man frowned and tried to hit him but his assistant held unto his hand.
"Don't sir. If you kill both the Mother and son it would be a bad deal for us" the assistant said making the mask man nod in agreement as he stumped around impatiently.
"Take him away," he instructed and stared at the lifeless body. "And clear that mess" he roared, "I have other things I need to take care off" All the men nodded in agreement and the masked man walked away.
Grey tried to cry but couldn't, his eyes stung and revenge was brewing in his heart. He was going to find the man that did this to his mother and make him pay.
The assistant dismissed the guards and they carried him away, out the warehouse. On the way, the guard who had looked at him pitifully picked him up and ran towards the Forest. The other guards noticed and started shooting at him, a bullet entering into the man's arm making little Grey scream in fright.
"Shhhh" the man said covering his mouth. "If you're noisy they'll find us" he kept running with his hand bleeding profusely and after a few minutes he got too weak to run.
He dropped Grey on the floor pointing a path to him. "Run through that path and don't stop until you reach the main road. I'll stay here and distract them"
Grey tried to protest but the man took off in the opposite direction, and in the distance he could hear the men coming. He took one last gulp and ran towards the direction the man had pointed out to him.
He ran for so long he couldn't feel his legs, tears blurring his sight as he heard sound of car horns.
He was close.
He heard footsteps behind him and realized he was being followed. So he ran faster, so fast he didn't realize he had reached town and currently was standing in the middle of the road. The bright light shon into his eyes and in a split moment he was flying through the air.
He had been hit.
But at least he had escape.....
Grey's eyes fluttered open, meeting his reflection. Sweat filled his forehead and his eyes were bloodshot red. He had just had a nightmare again.
He pulled the covers off his body and sighed checking his phone It was six am and he was late. Grey was never late.
As if on cue,his phone rang. So with shaky hands, he placed the phone on his ears. "Hello Sir , your meeting has been moved to Eight thirty due to some unseen circumstances from the investors.
He nodded, even tho he knew his assistant, Evan couldn't see him. "Tell them I will be there" he instructed.
He held his pounding head as he got up. "I'm supposed to have outgrown these shit" he moaned as he opened his drug cabinet.
He took out a can of drugs, slowly backing away from the cabinet towards his mirror. He stood In front of it looking at his reflection. He was a spitting image of his mother.
Life was really cruel to him.
Any time he looked at himself he remembered his mother, and that affected him much more than he was willing to admit. Sighing, he raised his black hair looking at his honey brown eyes staring back at him. He looked like a mess.
Grey took off his shirt, twisting the knob of the shower and he entered into seamless shower, the cold water hitting his skin. He had promised to take revenge for his mother, but twenty years later he didn't have a clue who the culprit was or why he did it.
He'd gone through every folder, he used his connection in the police station to get every paper concerning this case but never got any leads. They never found his mother's body it was like everything concerning that case had just vanished. He'd put out money rewards, put out threats, everything he could but nothing worked.
He'd failed his mother again, and until he took revenge he knew these nightmares wouldn't stop.
The ringing of his phone interrupted his thoughts and he frowned realizing he had to go to work today. Sighing, he got out of his shower picking up his phone. He let out a long swear, he'd been in the shower for over forty minutes.
His father had set up a meeting with some investors and it annoyed him so much. His father was always trying to do push his nose into his business and trying to force him old partners on him. But he had no choice, at least for now.
A few minutes later, he was fully dressed in a blue suit, his white shirt crisply ironed. He stared in the mirror trying to knot his tie, he needed to look perfect for this meeting. He slid into a pair of neatly polished shoe his and his hair was perfectly coiffed. He stared at his collection of watches, picking out his new Rolex watch and sliding it on, he was wealthy and he needed to show it.
He sighed and closed his eyes taking a deep breath, he could do this. All for the company his mother's swear had a hand in building he reminded pulling against his suit.
He picked up his phone and his bag, unlocking his door. He stepped out and met a number of guards scattered around his hallway. "Why are you all here?" He asked narrowing his eyes at them.
Seeing him, they immediately arranged theirselves standing at attention. "Mr Evan sent us here Sir. He had been trying to reach you" one of them said.
He gave a small scowl. "If I wanted him to be able to reach me I would have picked his calls" he mumbled looking at his watch. He looked back at their fearful faces. "Where is Mr Lockwood?"
"He is waiting for you in your car sir" the first guard spoke and he nodded walking past them and down his flight of stairs. One of them tried to collect his bag but he gave him a glare and the young man quicky moved away standing with the others.
He didn't understand why everybody was so worried about him. He had moved out of his father's house ever since he twenty and has been managing a multi billionaire dollar company that has been doing so well. He was trying to prove to his dad that he could do it without him.
And he was.
Today was just one of those days, but he wasn't going to let it affect his work. Never ever.
As soon as he stepped out the door, he met Mr Lockwood at the entrance with a car ready. Mr Lockwood sighting him got up quicky opening the back seat for him
He got in adjusting his seat belt and signaled for him to drive.
The drive was short and quiet, except for the occasional crackle of the radio, which was set to a low volume. He sat back in the seat and let the silence wash over him, his thoughts racing as he planned his next move. He was going to needed to re-open the investigation.
His driver pulled up In Front of his tall building and he saw Evan standing outside looking restlessly looking at his watch. His eyes lit up when he saw Grey and he rushed towards the car as Grey stepped out.
"You came in just at the peak of time sir, the investors are seated and waiting for you" Evan said collecting the bag from grey's hand.
"Don't ever try that stunt you pulled his morning with the guards" Grey warned glaring at Evan who'd raised his hand defensively.
"I'm sorry sir" he said with a small bow. "Here's the folder" he said handing Grey a beige folder.
Grey took a deep breath, as he stepped into the building. He could do this.
