Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Avana POV

I watched the Alpha leave; his words sounded like a pure rejection to me. I knew getting him would be hard, but I couldn't help wanting him. After so many years of hearing about him, now that I am closer to him and, unbelievably, his wife, it felt like a dream.

His perfect features draw me in, like a magnetic reaction, and my heart beats faster every time I am with him or thinking about him. Seeing him that night might have changed me a little bit, because I want him so badly. I want to feel so close to him that nothing else matters except us, together in each other's arms. Perhaps sex will tighten our bond when we finally mate . I have no idea who the other lady is, but I hate their closeness. I hate that the Alpha chose her that night.

Everything hurts equally, like I am used to failing, used to rejection. But I actually felt lucky; the Alpha's smile convinced me, soothed me, and I never stopped thinking that maybe this would favor me. I don't know how deep in love I am with the Alpha, but I know I would blindly trust and believe every single word he says. I might be desperate, desperate to be loved and accepted by him, but it feels right.

"I heard you're Alpha's mate now," I turned to the familiar voice and was a bit shocked to find the gorgeous girl who claimed to be Alpha Nicholas's sister to me sometime ago in Gani kingdom.

"Nice to meet you again, Avana," she said, her jawline flattened, giving a hearty smile. She stepped closer and sniffed me. My heart pumped faster, definitely not scared of her; I simply hadn't overcome my presence with her. She absolutely is who she claimed she was.

"I see my brother hasn't claimed you yet. You mustn't sit and wait," she said, trying to walk away. Her smile continued while I stood gazing, unable to compose any meaningful utterance.

"And also..." She said, coming closer to me, "You have to compete against Jenny. I believe you are in for a win." She added, walking away. I jumped forward and forced my words out. "Jenny, who's that?" I asked, a bit panicked. I hate to think the Alpha has someone who has already captured his heart. That means I already lost him. That simply shows I have no chance.

Nikia only smiled widely and left. Her aura washed over me, and I watched her disappear into the dim light, leading to the Luna's door.

I returned to the kitchen and switched off the gas, heading to Alpha's room. A quick glance at him wouldn't hurt, I thought, taking light steps until I reached the door. I flinched at the memories of the night that involved me. I twisted the doorknob open, hoping not to see the Alpha lost in his world with another person. I was disappointed and happy when the bed turned out to be empty. I walked down the suite and slowly turned to the corridor.

I heard a faint groan coming from the corridor. The dark night covered the whole universe, and the moon struggled to keep its brightness, still showing in its full shape. The faint groan continued, and I battled with my legs to stop, but they kept moving anyway. I softly prayed not to see anyone with the Alpha.

I finally got to the steps, and the Alpha came into view. His eyes were all red, and his claws were visible. I rushed over to him; he gnashed his teeth and struggled to keep his heart pumping in his chest. His devastated growls hurt, and I undoubtedly knew he was hurting.

I took a bolder step towards him; his teeth lost their human form, his sharp, lightning teeth threatened to pounce on my flesh, and I wasn't scared for my life at that moment. I was just scared and hurt seeing how much he fought during the new moon.

"I am sorry," I said as I embraced him. He growled and groaned, but I never let go. I tightened my embrace, feeling his heart slow down and finally return to normal. His claws slowly disappeared, his jaw dropped to the right position as his wolf teeth reformed.

I patted his back softly as his growls softened. His eyes lazily searched for me, and I held his head, locking eyes with him. After a long, troubled stare, he hesitantly kissed me, letting go of his struggles. He felt everything in me and deepened the kiss. I allowed his world to sink in, reveling in the kisses. After what seemed like years, he fell asleep right on my shoulder, like a little child in his mother's arms.

I know he might have been vulnerable to kiss me, and I may not have that luck next time, but the kiss was mine to keep. It was my first kiss, and it's worth cherishing. I took a long stare at his broad chest and covered him with a duvet and watched as his void face brightened up with a smile. I have only seen him smile at me from afar, but it felt better this way, and I selfishly wished for more.

I stood up and slowly turned to walk out, hoping not to wake him up. I turned to look at him one last time before going. I heard footsteps approaching, and a female voice softly called for the Alpha. I thought of hiding, but I felt challenged and stood my ground. The person came face to face with me; she instantly had a smirk on her face, and walked over to the sleeping Alpha.

"Alpha, it's me, Jenny." What? I turned back, my eyes watery at once. So, that's Jenny, I thought. Whatever her bond with the Alpha, it was indeed a strong one. I saw her all touchy-feely over the Alpha, and instantly hated myself for getting jealous. She probably was the rightful owner.

"Avana," I shed tears as I looked over at the Alpha, who called my name, and it hurt more when I realized it was only in his sleep.
