Avana POV
I opened my eyes to the scorching hot sun hitting my face. I hurried to my feet, caring less about the hot sun and the continuous growl in my tummy. I rinsed my face with the little water I saved from what the omega kept for me. I took a bite from the little bread and hid the remaining in the artwork of Alpha Zik, which was said to be a present from my mother while she was alive. The Luna had ordered it to be dumped since then.
Hoping to escape before the event starts, I carried my tiny weak legs across the lobby and found myself at the mansion gate. The curious gaze of the mansion guards fell on me. I have forever been a pitiful sight, but I don't allow that to hold me back. I cautiously walked past them, glad I had decided to hide the remaining bread in the lobby. That could have warranted unwanted search and questions.
I fled into the woods, hoping to follow the path my legs took me. I flaunted my tattered dress the way I have seen the Luna do, bickering with the animals that run about the woods. I walked so far into the woods, loving the scent of freedom. The feeling lingered in my nostrils and on my skin, energizing my weakened knees and shoulders. I stumbled on my path and rolled downwards into a river. I let the cold water draw me in, dunking my head out slowly to the beautiful sky. I realized how much I wished for such a beautiful and colorful world.
I was deep swimming in the river when I heard the howling of the omega. I hurried out of the river and hid behind a tree, my dress drenched. I wondered how he could have caught up with me so quickly. Have all my runs been just an inch movement for him?
The omega's howl stopped, and I tried to smell his scent around the woods.
"Avana, the Luna has summoned a search party for you. The guards have seen you left the mansion heading towards the woods," the Omega revealed. Coming out of the hideous woods, I saw the Omega in his wolf form, his eyes totally filled of affection and emotions. I was moved to tears, realizing how far the omega would go for me.
"I don't want to go back to that hell," I howled, sadly and confused. There are hundreds of maids. Why must she feel my absence? Why must she want me to serve her always? It must be her way of punishing me for being the daughter of the woman she so wished to be.
I saw a fast movement to my side as the omega captured me with his claws, throwing me up in the air lightly, and I gently landed on his back, loping across the woods as he tried to transport me back to the mansion, obviously before the search party gets me. I carefully held his fur coat, resting my head on his back. I always loved the warmth he gave me. He's like my only family.
Luckily enough, we got to the back of the mansion, and the omega dropped me off, his sparkling eyes summoning me to jump across the wall.
"No omega, I can't jump across this wall," I said, and his gaze suggested I did. I was contemplating when I felt a fast gush of air in my head. The omega transformed into his human form the moment he landed me at the mansion, his body bruised. I felt no shame staring at his bare body,He had obviously seen me at my worst.
"Get going, before the Luna loses it," he said, turning away, refusing to allow me to pity him. I was pitiful myself. "Would I ever be free from the Luna?" I asked, tears threatening to drop from my eyes.
"If you want freedom, then, learn its worth," he simply said and walked away.
I watched him turn his last corner, and I helplessly walked my way to the open mansion, a place where only the great ones reside. People like me are only seen there during important occasions, to serve and please our visitors who often treated us more like a family.
I got to the open mansion, and the heavy stares of the maids fell on me. I slowly walked into a maid room to carry out tasks appointed to me. I suddenly felt a painful sting on my cheek. Looking up, and behold the Luna herself.
"How dare you try to leave the mansion, you wretched creature," she said, raising her hands to hit me again. I quickly went down on my knees, with no tears coming. I forced a vulnerable weak voice and begged for her mercy.
"I wouldn't dare do that, Luna. I just hid myself because I caught a flu. I wouldn't dare stop serving you," I said, and it worked. She raised her head high, looking disgustedly at me.
"Do the needful, or else you would see hell," she threatened, and I almost scowled. Is there anything else as hellish as this? I bet not.
"I will do everything, great Luna," I said, biting hard on my tongue. She spat on me and left. I gently rose up and walked out, not a single tear threatening to fall. I was long done shedding tears for those bloodsucking wolves.
I readjusted my wrinkled dress and moved to where I was assigned. A beautiful young maiden smiled broadly at me from afar, and I was reluctant to return it. I looked around me and noticed nobody was staring. I hurriedly walked towards her and whispered closely to her ear, "Everyone is forbidden to talk to me." The maiden smiled wider and nodded. That bewildered me. She took me by the hand and led me to a room nearby the great Alfonso tomb, the first wolf Alpha.
"My mother was a great friend of your mother, the great Luna,Avana" the maiden said. I was restless, feeling pity for the girl. Luna Kally surely doesn't care about nobody.
"Relax, Avana. I am the Luna Annette's last child, Nikia, and my brother is the great Alpha of the Yani pack,Luna Kally won't dare touch me." I wasn't shocked the girl knew my name. Everyone knows the lowly Avana. I was only disturbed listening to the girl. Truly she was gorgeously dressed, and her flawless skin rhymed with her silk hair. I bet her blue eyes would sparkle more if she transformed to her wolf, but I was familiar with that joke. I have claimed and wished myself to be even a relative to the great Luna and the most powerful Alpha Nicholas of the great Yani kingdom, and I have once heard the maids joked about the same thing. I wasn't falling for her prank.
"Great lady, please, I would like to return to my duty, now," I said, and without waiting for her consent, I walked out, missing the tenderness of her hand on my skin. It felt like freedom,or maybe that was just my obsession over freedom.
I had just finished packing the gifts up when I was sent for. I followed the messenger, and we got to the special room, I walked dreamily towards Luna Kally, fascinated by the beautiful sights, the Luna look clearly showed how irritated she was by my sight, but it doesn't seems to bother me I have equal hate for her,I just couldn't show mine.
"Here is the possessed girl, Luna Annette," I shockingly looked over at the beautiful woman seated. Is that the mother of the great Alpha Nicholas?,I questioned as I dropped my face sadly, sidely viewing myself in my tattered dress. I was ashamed I had to look like a complete beggar in the presence of the great Luna Annette, a mate of the late Alpha of the whole pack existing, and a mother to Alpha Nicholas, the most handsome, powerful Alpha.
"I would love to take her," Luna Annette said, getting to her feet and walking up to me. She caressed my bruised hand and the little fur visible behind my ears. Her scent was strong, and I bet she used one of those expensive perfumes big people use. I love her already, and I pray Luna Kally accepts.
"She is troublesome and lazy. I bet you would send her back before the next full moon," Luna Kally said, her disdainful look visible enough to screamed her hate.
"Let's see. I would train her to be useful, then," Luna Annette calmly stated, returning to her seat. She stared intensely at me, and my breath hitched. I felt a nagging feeling in my head, and I bet I would have passed out, but thanks to my persistence.
"Prepare to leave with the Luna and behave yourself, wretched girl." I nodded, hiding my joy, and left the room, running to the other mansion, hoping to share my good news with the omega.
I walked into the small coven at the art room and found the omega looking battered on the floor. He must've been attacked by the mansion guards for a reason well known to me,I felt a gush of guilt as I shook him awake, running my bruised hand on his skin. I allowed the pain to overtake me as I shed tears, tending to the omega with the little aid I saw around. "I would beg the Luna to accept you if I get there," I said, promising myself more than I promised him. He nodded, smiling. I clearly saw sadness written all over him, and I simply hugged him tightly, pouring out all the hurt in me for what seems like the first time.
I left the omega sleeping, and with nothing but a hairpin given to me by him. I left the room and moved to the open mansion, to meet my new master, a place that's going to be my new beginning. Perhaps I would get to serve Alpha Nicholas too , that would be a dream come true, the thought sent me whirling around, shouting and laughing, while the other maids jealously stared at me.
