Zhao Yuhui discerned a lively melody, which she was very familiar with, gallivanting in the atmosphere when she got back from the university. She glanced at the empty lounge area and then down the corridor.
Her mother was for sure ensuring that no one barge in between while she was watching her favourite show.
"Mom, I am back!"
She took her time in removing the bag and taking off the muffler from her neck before bending down to remove the shoes and wearing home slippers. As expected, she did not get any reply. Her mother and her love for this show.
Getting nearer to the room, the voices of the people in the television became more distinct and soon, she poked her head through the door. "I am back, Mom."
Mother Zhao gazed at her daughter and nodded before fixing her attention back on the t.v.
"Just this? Shouldn't you be asking how the day went? Was it fun? etcetera..." Zhao Yuhui pouted and came to sit beside her mother.
"What is the point of asking all of that to a solitudinarian like you?" Mother Zhao unsympathetically posed back the cold-blooded question without making any effort to glance back at her.
"...well, I did make friends today."
That got her a look full of contempt with a raised eyebrow from her mother. "You? And friends?" Mother Zhao was totally aware of her daughter's introverted nature and her reluctance to approach anybody first.
When she was in school, irrespective of the advice, instructions and even scoldings that she received from her, this daughter of hers always remained unrelenting towards making new friends.
After a period of time, even she gave up forcing and let her be. The only few friends she had in a school were the ones with whom she studied from the start. God knows how she managed to give auditions and deal with people on entering the industry. It had always managed to leave her wandering.
"Stop looking at me as if I am making up things." Zhao Yuhui muttered and then went on to explain to her the happenings of the day.
"At least, now I wouldn't need to worry about finding my son-in-law as well." Mother Zhao shrugged her shoulders and spoke nonchalantly before simply bringing her eyes back to the screen.
"What are you even thinking? Zhao Yuhui gave her mother a side eye.
"Hopefully one of them asks you out someday." It was most neutrally someone could ever wish; without showing any emotions.
"Why do you always hope for these weird things to happen?" She muttered as she forcefully took the chips from her mother's bowl.
"Because you are somebody who would never look for one yourself. And if somebody indeed asked you out, you would straightaway reject him because you don't know him. So the best option left was for you to have some friend of yours as a boyfriend."
Mother Zhao sighed as she gave her a side-eye, "But looking at your friends' list...I had lost all hope!"
"You indeed have given up on me. Don't you feel it's too soon for that?" Zhao Yuhui forced the smile out sarcastically.
"Or not? What else should I take the reason behind you for not having any boyfriend till now? You know how Mrs Zhang often brags about the boyfriend of her daughter! They got into a relationship when they were still in school. But look at them now! They are still together!"
Zhao Yuhui stood up to go to her room after realizing that her mother wouldn't stop firing bullets at her. "I am going. Kindly put your all attention on watching your show."
Inside her room, Zhao Yuhui directly threw herself on the bed and stuffed the groan about to come out of her lips. With her face buried into the bedsheet, she continued lying on her stomach for a long, long time; trying to erase all the exhaustion of the day. Just laying like this could even give exceptional peace.
Around seven minutes later, she opened her eyes and turned her body around before sitting up straight.
Today was the start of her busy month ahead, and it was all about the university. Thinking about it, she had gotten a very rare opportunity to live her university life normally and regularly like everyone else.
She shouldn't waste it. Even if it meant catching up academically as well as socially. And making friends on the first day seemed to be a good start. At least, she wasn't dreading going to university the next day anymore.
Zhao Yuhui mentally recalled the things she had to do before sleeping tonight, hence got up from the bed and went to freshen up. After changing her clothes, she came out and went to the lounge to take the bag she had hung on the stand there along with her muffler.
There were still a few hours till dinner so she could study in the meantime. She was lacking behind a lot, moreover, this semester was quite hard too. If she went like this to give her exam; without even knowing what the classes lately had been about, she would fail, for sure.
Before bidding them bye, she had asked Cheng Qi for notes which he had delightedly handed to her. She could copy from it and at the same time study through it.
Going to the mini book stand that was by her bedside, she picked out the books of the necessary subjects and sat on the study table to start studying.
After some time, when more than enough time had passed, she withdrew her head from the books and stretched her arms behind her. The room was now abiding in slight dullness since the source of natural light was almost down and it was getting dark outside.
She switched on the lamp as well as unplugged her phone from the charger and unlocked it.
She lazily opened her SNS and swiped through it. And her feed was all about 'A Mystery'.
Last week, the production team of 'A Mystery' had announced the main cast of the series and ever since, she had gotten several thousand new followers. One of the official celebrities' account even posted the statistics of her topping the list for getting the maximum followers this week among all the artists.
It was a thriller-based drama, a refreshing plot about to air on the channel where every other drama was either historical or following the same office-love story. And amidst this and mainly because of it, the released outline of 'A Mystery' had managed to grab lots of attention.
Could she be wrong about not becoming a well-known name through this drama?
Late in the afternoon today, the male lead opposite her even acknowledged the confirmation by sharing a post in which he had tagged her.
He had posted two photos, one with the whole cast and the other with just her. It was a selfie of them taken after one of the scenes in the villa. He was already a well-established actor who was often counted among the top five best male actors.
Most of the time, his fans doesn't like seeing him with other actress and often, write negative comments about that artist. Hence he had permanently turned off the comments in his all the posts except for a few posts here and there.
She liked the post and shared it on her main account with a heart.
Before she could see anything else, she received an incoming call from Chen Peiling.
