Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 Military meetings

Melsius came over and whispered, "Davos, that family of Persians you sent to the supply camp last time, I took good care of them, as you requested!"

"Yes?" Davos looked at him with a smirk, "How can I thank you?"

"You're the chieftain, it's supposed to be my duty." Melesius smiled sardonically and moved a little closer, whispering even more, "Also, Menon has nearly two Tarrant Silver properties stored in the supply camp ..."

Two Tarantos is equivalent to the equivalent of sixty-five kilograms of silver, this is a huge amount of money, Menon is indeed very capable of earning money. Just for Davos who had only been reborn not long ago, he did not have too deep a concept of Greek coins, so he did not look surprised, he thought seriously and said, "Does Menon have any immediate family members?"

Melsius had been watching Davos, and seeing that he did not show a single sign of dissimilarity, and hearing these words, he instantly understood Davos's intentions, and with a little more admiration in his heart, he busied himself by saying, "No."

 "Was there ever a will?"

"No. He never thought he'd die so early."

Davos pondered for a while and said with a sigh, "Menon created this military camp, and he has put in a lot of effort for the sake of this camp, so let's use this money for the development of our military camp."

"Davos, you are truly impartial!" Melesius loudly complimented, then rubbed his hands together and asked cautiously, "You were so quick to calculate the number of people just now, could it be that Hades gave you some kind of enlightenment?"

Davos could tell he had something else on his mind, but he didn't realize it was for this, "Of course I did!"

"Can you teach me?" Melsius begged with a look on his face.

Davos was surprised that this fat man could still have such a strong desire for knowledge even though he was also a handful of years old, and couldn't help but be a little impressed as well, "Of course there's no problem."

"Great! Davos, you're the best alpha ever!" Melsius couldn't help but hug Davos, who stiffened; the ancient Greek tradition of homosexuality always made him a bit wary of excessive physical contact, but he soon realized that he was overthinking it, and that Melsius was just expressing his gratitude for him. Undoubtedly, the fat man had become a firm fan of his as well.

 ............... ...

By the time all had been arranged, it was past noon, and Davos had thought that he should be late, but when he and Felicius arrived at the command tent of the mercenaries, they found that only the two men, Clerisopus and Timasone, were in it.

Seeing two men enter, one of them a young man who was the same one he had seen earlier in the assembly, Clerisopus immediately frowned and said in a deep voice, "You are mercenaries from Menon, aren't you? Which one is the elected leader of your barracks?" As he said that, his gaze naturally looked towards Felicius.

Before Davos could speak, Felicius sidestepped, guided his left hand toward Davos, and said solemnly, "All of us soldiers have unanimously elected Davos as the new leader of our barracks!"

Clerisopus and Timasone stared with wide eyes and shocked faces. Only after a long time did the two look at each other, and then Timasone loudly questioned, "We are about to go to war with the Persians, and everyone must go all out, is your barracks trying to drag us down by electing a child who hasn't even grown up yet! Do you know that war is deadly, and many people will die!!!"

This last remark of Timazon's was addressed to Davos with a clear intention of intimidation.

Facing the somewhat fierce Timasong, Davos responded without showing any sign of weakness: ''When the fight starts, we don't know who will be dragged down! Fighting with the Persians, relying on brute force alone won't work! Where were you guys when I went to stop Krilcus, Menon and the others! If they had listened to my advice, we wouldn't be in such a bad situation today!"

"And of course I ... have blocked it ..." Timazon, who had been guilty in his mind of the capture of Krilkus, and had thus been countered by Davos's topic of conversation, replied underhandedly.

"All of us in the barracks agreed that Davos was the best choice for chief, and not one of us voiced any opposition! And I was entrusted to be the adjutant to assist Chief Davos in the management of the military." Felicius emphasized loudly once again. As a veteran mercenary, he knew what Kerisopus and Timasone were worried about and attempting to do.

Crisopus looked to Felicius again, "And this is?"

"Felicius, Menon's adjutant, the de facto head of his barracks ...," said Timasone in an odd tone beside Kerisopus.

"Oh ...," said Kerisopus with a look of understanding. Davos could guess what they were thinking, but he didn't want to argue, time would tell.

"The other camps are still in the middle of a heated push, but you guys are picking fast." Kerisopus finally stood up and said in a slightly derisive manner.

Davos immediately interjected, "At this critical juncture, it's better to have a unified mindset across the army than to still be on your own!"

Kerisopus froze: this young new chief knew nothing else about his abilities, but at least he was not weak in eloquence. He reluctantly saluted and said, "Welcome."

Davos returned the salute, "It was a pleasure fighting with you!"

For a time, the tent was speechless.

Ten minutes later, Zantiparis came in and replaced Socrates as the new chief.

Then Kriano replaced Achilles as the new chief.

The last to come in was Hieronymus, who had crowded out Agathia and replaced Proxenus as the new chief. And with him came Xenophon, an acquaintance of Davos, who became Hieronymus' lieutenant.

Everyone expressed surprise at Davos' age, well it was already afternoon and time was running out.

As soon as the people arrived, Kerisops immediately said, "Gentlemen, let's first decide on a retreat route back to Greece. My opinion is to march along the original route, following the Tigris River northward, entering Armenia, reaching the Sea of Yauch Star, and then returning to Aeolia by ship ..."

"This is the route that Tissaphernes set us on, and it was originally a plot! I've heard that there are quite a few savage races in the north that give even the Persians a headache, and are a huge threat to us!" Zantiparis objected.

"And what is your advice? Going west? Not to mention the fact that the road is much further, but more importantly, we are now in a state of war with Persia, and one more day on Persian soil is one more day of danger, and the Persians can mobilize more soldiers to besiege us at any time! Since the north is giving the Persians a headache, it just shows that they don't have a strong rule over the north, and this is our chance! It's not like those barbarians have any grudges against us, not to mention that we have a common enemy, Persia! ..." Timasone spoke eloquently, apparently having previously communicated with Chrysopus.

I'm sure it's better to take the north road after all! Davos saw that Zantiparis shared the same look of approval as the others.

"Let's all vote. Raise your hand if you agree to go north!" Kerisopus said

 It was unanimously approved.

Chrysopus added, "In order to be able to concentrate our soldiers to fight the Persians and to prevent them from taking a blow because their strength is spread too thin, I suggest that the small mercenary battalions of Sosius and Pasion be merged into our midst. Of course, this will depend on both sides merging together voluntarily."

"When merged together, how will the military food be distributed? How will the possessions previously collected by each be distributed? ..." asked Hieronymus seriously.

"It's already been said that it's voluntary, if he's willing to join your barracks, you can discuss it privately." Timasong said with some impatience.

Annexing other small army camps? Davos was somewhat intrigued; after all, the more troops there were, the better the camp's chances of surviving a battle.

"Since we are all in agreement, we will announce this at the general meeting of the whole army. In addition, there is the more important question, being in a state where we could be attacked by the Persians at any time, what formation will we march in to maximize our safety?" Grissops looked around the crowd, and without waiting for an answer, he had already taken out a wooden stick and gestured on the ground, "My suggestion is to advance in a large square-air formation, that is, two mercenaries as the vanguard to guide the whole army, one mercenary on the left and right to protect the flanks, and then two more mercenaries to act as the rear-guard, and in the middle our supply columns and non-combatants ... What do you guys think?"
