Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Doctor Who?

Athens failed in the Peloponnesian War, and experienced the brutal rule of the "thirty tyrants", the Athenian people more or less aware of the flaws in the system, but like Davos such a total rejection of the Athenian democratic system, no one has ever said before. This deafening speech is like a thunderbolt, so that Xenophon half a day did not return to God, in a trance, confused: "... is Sparta ... is the best?"

"Sparta?!" Davos sneered, "It was doomed to never be strong when it decided to turn its own countrymen into black laborers (referring to the Messenians)! Although Spartan warriors are valiant, but a few thousand Spartan warriors have to suppress ten times as many slaves, and its city-state is like a volcano, which will erupt once it suffers a major defeat."

"Davos, Sparta is now the most powerful city-state in Greece!" Oliveros interjected.

"Then we'll wait and see how many years its might lasts!" Davos replied confidently. He vaguely remembered that it wasn't long before Greece was at war again, and Sparta was defeated by the rising Thebes, thus declining.

"Is this an oracle?" A few of his teammates looked astonished.

 Davos laughed but didn't answer.

"So, which city-state has the best system?" Xenophon asked reluctantly.

Davos chimed in with an equally enigmatic smile.

At this point Xenophon seems to have regained his composure on the surface, but in fact his heart is rippling, decades of habits and beliefs have been pulverized by the words of Davos, and he has not completely lost his temper, relying on the years of Socrates' teaching, which has made him a better learner and independent thinker than the average person.

Distracted, he could not stay any longer, he had to go back and ponder what Davos had said. So, goodbye to Davos.

On his way out, Davos asked, seemingly casually, "Xenophon, have you ever commanded an army before?"

"Served as a cavalry captain." Xenophon answered hastily.

Looking at Xenophon's far away back, Davos's expression became grave: as a student of Socrates, Xenophon's insights are obviously far superior to those of his teammates; however, as a newcomer to Athens, not a significant reputation, and no rich experience as a mercenary, and so far is only an adjutant of Proxenus chief, how could Xenophon lead this retreat?

Thinking that the author of The Long Walk was Xenophon himself, Davos inevitably wondered: was Xenophon taking credit for someone else's work and sticking it to himself?

"Davos, are Athens and Sparta really that bad?" As opposed to the others who were listening to the clouds, Xellos clearly understood and was therefore more confused.

Davos nodded and sighed, "If it were a time of peace, both Athens and Sparta would be living well, but this is a time where if you don't rise to the occasion, you will perish!"

Heros seemed to understand and couldn't help but ask the same question as Xenophon: "So are there any city-states in the Mediterranean that have a better system than Athens or Sparta?"

Davos looked at the curious and eager eyes of Xellos and turned his head: in the sky, the setting sun was radiating its last afterglow before it fell, looking out over the reddish tinted patch of clouds, remembering the Mediterranean world of the future, with its frequent wars and the rise of powerful states as if it were a walk in the park, until the great emperor appeared, shining brightly for more than 2,000 years in the western world... ...

A sudden surge of bravado rose up in Davos' heart, and this time he did not refuse to answer again, but said affirmatively, "Not now. If you and I can keep living, maybe one day you'll see it!"

 ............... ...

Early in the morning, Davos's sanity was in a daze when he heard the sound of people outside the house.

"Wake up! Wake up! My nephew is awake!!!" Antonius burst into the house in ecstasy and embraced Davos in a hug, "Thank you! Thank you! Asistos he's alive!!!"

Davos, still not fully awake, asked in a daze, "Really?"

"It's true!" Helps, who was right behind him, said excitedly, "Acistus is awake! His body temperature isn't as hot as it was yesterday, and although he's still weak, he's already able to drink the porridge made from bread. Davos, the method you taught does work!"

Facing Helps' admiring gaze, Davos' hanging heart finally landed on the ground, he forced himself to hold back his excitement and calmly said, "Although Asistos is out of danger, we can't relax just yet, continue to take care of him according to the methods mentioned before, so that he can return to normal as soon as possible!"

 "Yes!" Helps replied respectfully.

"Davos, there are a lot of people outside to see you." Xellos said as he entered.

"Oh, it's Capheus and the others, they were all surprised to hear that Acistus had awakened, and made sure to come over to see you, probably wanting your help." Antonius replied with some shame: Davos had put so much effort into saving his nephew, perhaps even praying to Hades. And before he could return the favor, he might have to bring him new trouble.

"Capps?" Davos had no recollection of the name.

"Another heavy infantry squadron leader from our camp." Xellos stated in an aside.

Davos pondered a little and immediately stood up, "Let's go out, don't keep them waiting."

He walked out of the house, surrounded by the crowd.

 "Look, Davos is out!"

 "This is Davos? Too young!"

"Don't look young, but he's a true favored one of Hades! Otherwise, how could Asistos have been woken up by him. It's not like you and I haven't seen Yasistus in a coma before."

"Davos, I have a brother under my command who is wounded like Acistus, burning and unconscious, and would like your help!"

"I also had one of my men injured ..."

 "And me ..."

In the not-so-large yard, the crowded people waved their arms desperately, shouting like a raging tide, one wave after another.

In the face of some out-of-control scene, the crowd is a little nervous, only Dyfus's color unchanged, in his previous life as the bottom of the promotion up cadres, no matter in the townships, counties and municipalities, have seen a number of mass petitions. Even when he was the village chief, once in the town meeting, catch the farmers because of the land expropriation problem to the township government surrounded the lawsuit, the leaders are hiding, only he stood out, in the face of this group of agitated farmers hand holding the hoe stick, effort to persuade them back. This small scene in front of him, really can not be difficult, not to mention that for him, this is a good thing.

He raised his hand and shouted, "Quiet, everyone, please!"

"Quiet! Quiet! ..." Antonius and the others helpfully shouted.

 People are calming down.

"I'm so grateful for everyone's trust!" Davos said with an emotional expression, "We are all comrades who have fought and faced death together! All of us are good brothers who can trust our right shoulders to our teammates for protection! If any of my brothers are injured, I will take Helps and do our best to save them, never abandoning any of the wounded!!!"

Helps was thrilled to hear his name.

Hearing this, the soldiers in the courtyard were even more grateful.

 "Too good! Thank you Hades!!!"

"Thank you, Davos, you're our savior!!!"

"Davos, you're the best brother we've ever had! Whatever you ask for in the future, I will do my best to do it for you!!!"

In these times, it was common for warriors to die of infected wounds and a nightmare that plagued the military. Now, Davos gave them hope. And the man was so generous and kind, how could they not be moved!

"Davos! Davos! ..." shouts echoed persistently over the Menon barracks.
