Chapter 71 - We Promise Not to Take a Wool

"Brothers in the city! To whom is it not to sell your lives? Our army in England needs you too!"

"If you surrender to us, there are countless beautiful women and gold!"

"We'll be family from now on, and if you resist now, your queen won't spare you in the future!"

"Just surrender to us, we won't take a single fleece from you!"

"If you resist, we'll show you what slaughter means! ......"

The Earl of Wellington stood just a little farther away, looking at the somewhat leering soldier as he shouted.

Because he was far away, he didn't hear the lewd man's persuasive words, but he used a careful look and the soldiers at the city head were all mingling with each other!

After much careful baiting and coercion by the lewd man, in less than half an hour the high lifted drawbridge was lowered by the Scotsman.

Soon, an old man in his fifties stepped out from the drawbridge, dressed with great care, his snow-white hair and beard were combed clean, and the whole person looked very spiritual.

He was followed by dozens of soldiers pushing a few carts of sacks right out. And these dozens of soldiers are also mostly old and weak, down to thirteen year old dolls, as old as forty or fifty year old old men, wearing the skin of a soldier, without the appearance of a soldier.

Seeing that it was an old man, and scores of old and sick people, the Earl of Wellington, who had been a little cautious, then boldly came to the gates of the city with more than a hundred guards.

"Your Honor! I am Councilor Tesla Besslaka of the Huntington Presbyterian Church. Beslaka, and on behalf of the residents of Huntington, I would like to welcome His Excellency the General!"

"Mr. Tesla is so kind! What a deep understanding!"

"Here are some gold coins that the residents of Huntington have prepared for the general and the warriors to reward you guests who have traveled so far!"

"How very kind, I am the Earl of Wellington, commander of this army!"

Old Mr. Truss's tone was cautiously respectful, and his hands pointed to the carts of sacks behind him.

The Earl of Wellington contracted his eyes involuntarily and craned his neck a little to look at the cartloads of sacks behind him.

"I only hope the Count keeps his word, these are some of our tributes, we'll send the rest in a few days once we've raised them!"

"Here's five thousand pounds worth of francs, which seems cumbersome because it's mostly Aijou and Rivière!" Mr. Councillor's tone was somewhat hopeless; after all, Huntingdon was far from business, a rather backward town, and could only claim a place in Scotland.

Because of the longstanding alliance between Scotland and France, there was a lot of French currency in the territory, while Scotland did not have a centralized minting authority as England did, and the monetary system within the territory was chaotic to the point that the silver content could not be.

At that time, a copper coin was equivalent to a one-franc silver coin, called a "livre", which was worth one pound of silver. The "aigu", a large silver coin in francs, and the "pistole", a gold coin in francs, were commonly used. There were also "double aigu", "half piastre" and "double piastre" currencies. Because of the high silver content and the power of the country, the French currency was heavily used by the merchants of Europa.

"Don't go to all that trouble, Mr. Congressman, we'll pick it up ourselves!"

The Earl of Wellington hastily excused himself, seeming very slightly sorry.

"But Lord Earl, didn't you promise not to take a single fleece from us?"

"Yeah? When did I pass! This must have been misrepresented by someone!"

On seeing the old gentleman's face suddenly white and as miserable as the snow in winter, the Lord Earl's words took another turn, and he said softly.

"But, since it's been rumored that way, and people believe it's mine, I'll keep that promise!"

"Thank you so much! Your Excellency the Count, may God bless you!"

Mr. Tesla was nervous and excited, and his body was a bit overwhelmed.

"All right! Mr. Councilman, hurry up and ask all the residents to come out!"

"What?" The old gentleman was a bit incredulous.

"Mr. Councilman, I promise not to take a single fleece from you, so all you citizens of Huntington come on out!"

"We're not going to hurt you, but sir, you'll have to tell those citizens that they can't come out with a single copper or suffer the consequences!"

Looking at the Earl of Wellington's determined look and the tone that could not be questioned, Mr. Councillor still took his words back.

People under the roof, have to bow their heads ah! Looking at the scared soldiers behind him, he knew there was no bargaining power.

There was nothing for it but for Mr. Old Councilman to go back and inform the citizens of Huntington Lane.

It was a good thing that Mr. Truss's prestige was quite high, and in less than two hours more than 10,000 citizens of the entire city of Huntington left their homes, and families dragged themselves outside the city to shiver.

"Boys! Be careful, don't smash and break people's things, don't touch the noble's mansion, and most importantly, don't take a single fleece from them! Understand?"

Mr. Earl spoke loudly to the officers behind himself, emphasizing his orders.

"Obeying your orders, Honorable Lord Count!" The officers were happy to have this opportunity to make a fortune, and their voices were extraordinarily strong in their words.

According to the Earl of Wellington's plans, all the light and heavy cavalry searched, while leaving more than four hundred knights with him to watch over the citizens of Huntingdon.

And the finances obtained by those who searched had to be left in seven layers, four of which belonged to the Earl of Wellington and the knights, while the other three belonged to Duke Edward.

Like a pack of wolves running, the soldiers wailed into Huntington, whose gates were wide open.

Scotland, Edinburgh, Linthicum Palace, where the four ministers and Queen Mary were all gathered together, waiting for the French ambassador, Marchese d'Or. Voyseur.

Just as the crowd waited impatiently, a stocky figure walked over, a big belly, a tall body, and sparse hair, this was the first impression he gave to the crowd.

"The Ambassador of France, Baron Marchand de Voyselle, is here! Baron de Voyseur!" The palace guards chorused.

"Good morning! Your Majesty, the Queen Mother, the Lord Regent, and all the Lords!"

Yes, Queen Mary and the ministers had been deliberating on how to defend the capital city of Edinburgh until French reinforcements arrived.

"Good morning! His Excellency the Ambassador! I suppose you already know about us!"

Queen Mary's words were full of condescension; her father and brother were both valued ministers of the King of France, and her family was deeply rooted in France.

It is possible that in the present time, apart from the French royal family, only they, the Guises, are the most powerful.

"Yes! Your Majesty, the Empress Dowager, I deeply sympathize with your country's suffering!"

"Then, I wonder how your country can help us as allies?"

Queen Mary's words were direct, pursued sentence by sentence, without the slightest concern for his status as ambassador.

"I have sent late at night to inform His Majesty the King in Paris, and I think His Majesty will certainly send reinforcements; for the present your country has only to hold out until they arrive!"
