Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Encounter

Third person's P.O.V.

The sun had dipped below the horizon, leaving behind a soft canvas painted with remnants of orange and purple that slowly faded into the deep blue of twilight. As the last rays of light vanished, the forest came alive with the rustle of leaves and the distant calls of night creatures. Matteo leaned against the trunk of an ancient oak, his heart pounding with anticipation. This was the rendezvous point—a clearing deep in the woods where few dared to venture after dark.

He glanced at his watch. 8:00 PM. He was punctual, but that didn't surprise him; it was a trait that had been drilled into him since childhood. The forest was dense and alive around him, whispers of the wind threading through the branches, carrying with it the whispers of secrets long kept.

Matteo's mind raced, a jumble of apprehension and worry. He had waited for this meeting for the whole day, driven by his relentless curiosity and fear about Jason and his mate's relationship. The rumors that swirled around them were as thick as the underbrush surrounding him. Some spoke of like lovers, while others claimed they were merely friends. But Matteo needed to know the truth.

The sound of footsteps broke through the symphony of the night, and Matteo straightened. His heart set into a quick rhythm, each thud matching the crunch of leaves underfoot. Emerging from the shadowy thicket, Jason stepped into the clearing, barely illuminated by the silver glow of the half-moon. He was tall and lean, his dark hair tousled, casting a striking silhouette against the backdrop of towering trees.

"Matteo," Jason said, his voice smooth yet resonant, as if carrying echoes from ages past.

He stepped closer, the cautiousness in his gait betraying the air of confidence that surrounded him.

"You came." said Matteo

Matteo was unsure if he should feel relieved or apprehensive. The weight of the moment pressed upon him, filling the space between them with an electric tension that crackled in the cool evening air.

"I had to. I wanted to know what was the important thing."

"Good, I also have some things that I'm curious about."

Matteo replied, taking a breath to steady himself.

"Today I saw you hugging a girl in the plaza. Who is she to you? And what's her name? How come you have never talked about her to me? Is she new?"

Matteo's coriusity grew by each passing minute of silence.

"Some say you are lovers—others say you are friends. I just... I need to know if there's any truth behind those rumors. I need to know the truth."

For a moment, the forest fell silent, as if it too was holding its breath, waiting for Jason's response. The shadows danced around them, creating an intimacy that felt both thrilling and dangerous.

"Each story holds a grain of truth," Jason finally said, his gaze piercing. "But truth is subjective, Matteo. What you perceive may not be the reality I live. You must decide for yourself what to believe."

"I don't want to believe in legends," Matteo insisted, stepping closer.

Anger began to grow in Matteo. "He's playing with us." he said to Axel in his mind.

Jason studied Matteo with a look of curiosity mixed with caution. "Understanding comes with risk. You must be prepared for what you may find. Are you ready to embrace the truth?"

Matteo nodded, though his heart raced even faster. "Yes, I think I am."

"Very well," Jason said, a sly smile pulling at the corner of his lips. "But first, come walk with me."

With that, Jason turned, leading Matteo deeper into the forest. The path was winding and narrow, flanked by trees that loomed like silent sentinels, their branches weaving together to form a canopy that obscured the stars. As they walked, the moonlight filtered through the leaves, casting ghostly patterns on the ground.

"What do you know about us?" Jason asked, glancing at Matteo over his shoulder.

"Not much," Matteo admitted, focusing on keeping pace. "Just what I have said, but I want to know the truth."

"Okay, but you were never interested in my relationships, mainly not with girls. What changed?" asked Jason.

Jason stopped, turning to face him fully.

Matteo's thoughts swirled with the possibilities. After some minutes he said:

"She is my mate! I wanna know every little thing about her. Starting with your relationship. Why did you hug her? "

Matteo swallowed hard, feeling the weight of his question. His wolf tried to calm him down.

"Matteo, it's gonna be alright. Let's trust in our mate and the moon godness."

" Actually we are relatives. I'm her cousin, and they just moved here, and she wanted to shopping. Since she didn't know anyone I had to shop with her. "

said Jason sincerly.

Actually he thought about lying but he saw how important this question was to Matteo and also the fear in his eyes.

Matteo couldn't believe it. When the long-awaited sentence was spoken, he felt a weight lift off his heart that he didn't even know was there. Then he blew out the breath he didn't know he was holding.

As they stood in the hushed embrace of the forest, the air thick with anticipation, Matteo felt the first reaction he could.

He began to realize where they were. They walked into the middle of the forest, trees surrounded them all the way. But he was not afraid, he knew this forest like the back of his hand.

Then Matteo looked at Jason. His eyes were filled with relief and happiness. Matteo's wolf howled happily in Matteo's mind. "I told you! She's ours, only ours!"

And in that moment, under the watchful gaze of the night, Matteo took a step closer to Jason, hugging him. Jason didn't know how to react at first, but eventually he hugged Matteo back.

Matteo couldn't describe his feeling with words anymore. In that moment he thought he was the happiest wolf in the world knowing that his mate's heart is open for him.

He couldn't wait to finally meet her tomorrow ..
