BANG
Another sound. They all turned to look at the source and found a crater in the side of the hill. A massive, long, white spear poking out of it.
"DADDY!" Yelled Annie and reached for her bag frantically. She fiddled with the strap, slipping a few times due to her hands shaking.
ROAR
A swirl of blood magic seemed to just appear alongside the roar.
They heard a roar from a distance. A large distance. Above one of the hills across from them. A large hulking figure stood on four legs. It's V-shaped head aimed in their direction, with another head shaped appendage positioned above its head. But that appendage looked hollow.
"TIBBERS HELP!" Annie screamed as she threw a toy bear onto the ground. Tibbers flew out in an arc.
Everyone's eyes shifted toward it.
THUD
And it just landed on the ground.
BOOM
Another loud sound and the kids turned their eyes toward the beast. But noticed it missing.
"Up..." Briar said softly as she pointed. Their heads shot up and spotted the beast falling towards them.
Fear took over them as the beast grew in size as it fell toward them. The creature wasn't just big..... it was beyond that. The first thing they spotted was the long spikes that stood out from the front two legs.
Rell subconsciously summoned the metal armor around them and moved them all away. She didn't mean to do it. But her magic reacted to the situation. The other kids except Annie and Briar were all screaming at their loudest.
Annie stood in shock with her eyes glued toward Tibbers who had refused to transform. And Briar just looked at the creature with no real emotion in her face.
Briar's upbringing and situation had kept her from feeling the same fear as the rest of the children. In a sense, she was hollow.
BOOM
WHOOOOOSH
The creature landed with an earthshaking force, its body sinking into the ground. The moment it landed, it kicked up large amounts of dust clouds, that spread out in all directions. It struggled to push itself back up, with the ground giving way as it exerted force. Its tail slammed onto the ground to stabilize itself. And it let out a deafening roar.
ROAR
The dust cleared as the kids got their first proper view of the creature. It was all bone, sinew and muscles stretched across its mass.
Its tail having spikes that ran across. But its tail wasn't connected to its back but rather its other head like appendage. Out of which an arrow like object was growing. Above the appendage was a spiky bone shaped like a bow. A sinew string ran between each end of the bow. This string passed through the tail.
The creature looked at them appraisingly before raising one of its front legs. The kids stood up and frantically tried to run the other way but the dislodged earth led to most of them slipping.
SZZZZZZZZZZZHHHHHHH
Before it swung however, A sizzling sound erupted from underneath it.
FWOOSH
A large flame shot up from under the beast's belly causing it to give out a painful roar and scramble back.
Out from underneath it, stood a large bear. Completely on fire.
It looked at the creature and gave a loud roar. Flames surged as it did.
"Tibbers!" Annie exclaimed.
That shocked the kids out of their fear. The toy bear? That was THAT? HOW?!
Tibbers stood at full height and leapt at the monster. Swiping at it with its burning claws. The creature reared back on its hind legs before slapping Tibbers away.
Its head looked toward Tibbers, ignoring the children in front of it. Its beak-like mouth opened. "What are you?" It asked with a booming voice.
"It speaks?" Briar asked to particularly no one.
Tibbers stood up from where it had been sent and walked up to the creature. Suddenly a voice spoke in all of their heads.
I AM YOUR END
Tibbers launched itself at the creature once more. This time landing a few hits before facing another swipe of the creature's legs. Instead of slapping it away, the monster smashed it to the ground. Holding Tibbers in place.
"My end? I cannot be ended creature." The beast replied, "I AM ETERNAL!"
Tibbers struggled to move from under the weight. And in that moment, Tybaluk looked toward Annie and spotted the fear on her face.
The Demon of Guilt felt rage beyond anything surge within it. It pushed past its barriers almost taking its True Form, when they heard a voice cut through.
"You are not eternal."
Both Tibbers and the creature looked turned their heads to the owner of the voice. And out of the crater, the white spear shook before turning around toward them.
BANG
The creature felt itself lift up as it was impacted in its side with the same white spear that also seemed to be reforming above its head.
THUD
Everyone watched as a figure emerged from the crater. The figure was massive. But it looked humanoid. In its hand was a blood red spear. Spikes and bones similar to the creature stretched across it. Its shoulders curved upwards, ending in sharp points.
"That was a greeting." It said as it raised its other hand. A spiky shield shot to it, enlarging as it reached him.
"I recognize that energy." The beast spoke, turning its complete attention toward the humanoid. "Caalyx."
The humanoid threw its shield, "No. Caalyx is not in control right now. I am." It spoke calmly as the shield impacted the creature once more, sending it off balance. "Nice to meet you, Naganeka. My name is Gregori."
As he finished introducing himself, Gregori shot forward at inhuman speeds. He shoulder slammed the beast and sent it flying to the side, freeing Tibbers from under its foot.
"Keep the children safe." He told Tibbers as he jumped forward at Naganeka. He thrust his spear forward at it.
"Aim for the weapon Gregori." Caalyx advised from inside his mind. "Naganeka is the ballista above the creature's head. Remove it and you remove him."
The spear made contact with its head, sending Naganeka into the ground. He then mounted the Darkin and tried to pry the weapon off the body.
THUD
A swipe of the large tail sent him off the creature's back. The spikes in the tail stabbing into him as he fell.
Gregori fell to the ground and rolled as he got back to his feet. "In a hurry are we?" He taunted the ancient warrior.
"You cannot beat me Caalyx." Naganeka growled. "I am stronger."
Gregori rushed him and jumped over the sweeping tail and slid under the creature. Using the spear, he stopped himself from going any further and stood up to its side. A full turn and he stood behind the creature.
THUD
With a sweep of his own, his spear removed the ground from under the hind legs of Naganeka, sending it down.
Gregori pulled at its legs, in an effort to make the front half lose balance as well. But Naganeka retaliated by sending its tail in a standard spear thrust at him.
He shifted his body to the side narrowly dodging the attack. The tail speared the ground before slashing toward him.
Letting go of the hind legs, Gregori rolled to the side and got to his feet.
"Do not only rely on your body Gregori." Caalyx voiced, "You have much more in your arsenal."
"That is a card I would like hidden. Only in dire situations would I reveal it and using it now will not be guaranteeing victory. Rather it would alert him." Gregori countered. "I can't have him not fall for tricks."
"Hmm..."
Gregori raised his hand while swinging his spear at Naganeka. It plunged into its head. Its neck and head bent in an awkward angle before snapping back in place.
"That cannot hurt me." It stated.
As it completed those words, the shield that lay forgotten after its initial use, slammed into it from the other side, forcing its head into the spear.
Twisting its head, Gregori slammed the spear into the ground and reached for the ballista on its back.
"ARGHHHH!" He yelled as he tried to pry it off its back.
SNAP
CRACK
Sounds of bones snapping and cracking echoed through the battlefield as the ballista was slowly budging of Naganeka's back.
PIERCE
Gregori grunted as he was pierced through his back with the tail.
With a flick, he was sent flying to the side as Naganeka pushed the spear off itself using the spikes in its forelegs.
It then turned to face him and lowered its head. The spikes in its forelegs sunk into the ground. Its tail plowed into the ground and its hind legs dug into the soil.
Gregori's eyes widened as he raised his hand, summoning the shield to himself.
The single sinew in its back stretched back fully taut.
BANG
With a loud bang the sinew snapped forward into place, launching the ballista arrow right at him. Gregori raised his shield to block it. For a second, everything seemed still as shield met arrow. And then everything resumed as Gregori got sent flying into the hill side.
"Use your magic Gregori!" Caalyx groaned frustratedly, "You will lose a battle of attrition. You don't have enough blood in you. This is a greater transformation than the one before. The increased size and armor come at a cost. A cost you cannot keep paying. And I am not complete, even if I take over....." Caalyx left his words unsaid. "Naganeka will go after the demon and your kids next if you fall."
Gregori stayed silent as he lay flat on the ground. Blood pooling beneath him. The last words were the nail in the coffin.
Then he replied, "Fine. I'll end him as fast as possible."
The pooling blood stilled before retracting back inside his body. The wounds sustained in that short skirmish bubbling. The skin pulling itself together. The flesh stitching itself. The pain sharpening.
"Let me repeat it again Gregori. Your blood is running out." Caalyx reminded him. "You do not have time."
"Fine. I'll end him now." Gregori replied instantly.
"Now or never." Caalyx spoke.
Gregori stood up and watched as Naganeka turned toward the kids. Even from the distance, he could spot the arrow forming rapidly.
"Now or never." He intoned.
FWOOOOOOMM
He gathered energy to his shoulders. They were raised for a reason, the back side of the raised points were completely hollow.
FZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Red flames burst out from them before condensing into a concentrated, pure blue. It took a conical shape as he felt the force against him, pushing him.
Sensing the completion of his state, Gregori gently lowered himself and placed the shield in front of him, positioning his eyes just above it.
"All in Gregori." Caalyx spoke in his head.
"All in."
