Alec lay on his back, staring up at the thin fabric of the tent's ceiling, his sleeping bag rustling slightly as he adjusted his position. The air inside was thick with the scent of damp earth and sweat, remnants of their long, harrowing journey. He hadn't had their bath since yesterday.
His friends—Winston, Mike, and Jeffrey—were sprawled beside him, their breathing uneven, thoughts tangled in the afternoon's eerie silence.
Without warning, Winston bolted upright, his eyes darting between his friends, his expression tense, almost unhinged.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Alec grumbled, rubbing his temples as he turned to glare at him.
Winston's gaze locked onto Alec, unblinking, searching. "Are you human?"
Alec shot up, scowling, before smacking Winston on the forehead. "Did you hit your head or something? Have you finally lost it?"
