Chapter 14 - In His Room

Doctor Reeves removed the IV from its stand and waited for Angel, who tried to get off the bed, but she was still so weak that she could not get up.

Left with no choice, Doctor Reeves lifted her off the bed and carried her bridal style as he strode towards the stateroom located at the third level. He asked Angel to carry the IV as both his hands were engaged.

When he reached the stateroom, he used his left leg to knock at the door.

After a minute, Leoric opened the door, and a scowl appeared on his face when he saw the doctor carrying Angel.

"What is the use of your legs if you can walk on them?" He asked angrily.

"Mr. Graystone, she is still weak. Drowning and being resuscitated is a serious matter." Doctor Reeves frowned at the way Leoric greeted them.

Leoric scanned the doctor from head to toe. How dare he talk to him like that? Then he remembered that Doctor Reeves was only a reliever who was on vacation from abroad and had no idea about his identity.

Gavin Reeves stood awkwardly as Leoric, with his tall frame, was blocking the doorway.

"Doctor, please put me down. I can walk by myself. Anyway, we are already at the door.

"You are not yet fit to walk. You can't put a strain on your lungs. Walking even for a short distance exerts effort." Doctor Reeves spoke gently to Angel. His voice sounded particularly jarring to Leoric.

When Leoric stepped aside, the doctor entered the room in huge strides. Without waiting for any instruction, he placed the patient at the side of the king-size bed. He motioned for Leoric and handed him the IV.

"Please hold this for a while. I'll go get the stand." Doctor Reeves stuffed the IV bag on Leoric's hands, then he left without waiting for him to say anything.

Leoric thought there was something wrong. Too late, he realized that the doctor had made him hold an IV bag. He frowned and threw the bag on the bed.

Red blood suddenly flowed back into the clear plastic tube. Angel watched it without flinching or exhibiting any sign of pain.

Leoric realized what he had done, so he subconsciously picked it up and held it high. The crimson liquid slowly disappeared as it entered Angel's body.

The man glared at Angel, who did not spare him a glance. She was sitting rigidly on the edge of the bed. She did not know why Leoric requested that she stay in his room.

"Is there something you want to say to me? If not, I would like to go back to my cabin." Angel said in a flat tone.

Leoric was irritated by the way she talked to him. She spoke gently to the doctor earlier.

"Go back to your room and attempt suicide again? If not for the fact that I cared about my reputation, why should I let you stay here?" Leoric asked sarcastically.

Angel chuckled. "I thought you didn't care about your reputation. You said that you would let your friends toy with me. Isn't that bad for your reputation?"

Leoric's veins on his forehead bulged.

"You have some guts to talk back at me, Angel Hart. If the world knew that the innocent daughter of Steve Hart was a vixen and seduced many men, then I can use that as a ground for divorce, but if you died during our honeymoon, then what would people think of me?"

Angel's mouth opened wide. She could not believe that a man as shameless as him could exist. Before she could say anything, there was a knock on the door.

"Sir, this is the steward, and I am bringing soup and a light meal for Mrs. Hart."

Leoric allowed the steward to enter the room, who then proceeded to pull a small table from the side of the bed and carefully placed it in front of Angel. After setting the tray, he spoke in a cheerful manner, "Please enjoy your meal, Mrs. Hart. I'll come back later to retrieve the tray."

Angel looked at the tray for a long time and hesitated. She did not know what time it was; probably, it was close to midnight. She was indeed hungry. The last meal she had was breakfast. She hadn't eaten a bite during their wedding banquet at lunch, and then she was whisked away on a yacht to entertain Leoric and his friends with a dance.

A rumbling sound came from her stomach.

"What are you waiting for? Are you waiting for me to feed you?" Leoric, who was sitting on a couch two meters from the bed, asked sarcastically.

"Who wants to be fed by you? You'll only ruin my appetite," Angel retorted.

"What bold words! Don't think that because you are a patient, I cannot do something to you." Leoric gave her a look that said, 'Shut up.'

Angel threw him a side glance. 'What is wrong with him? I did nothing to provoke him.

Angel's stomach started to ache from hunger. She decided to eat. Since food was offered to her, she will not reject it.

Leoric, who was sitting on the couch and reading his email, watched her from his peripheral vision. Angel was indeed well trained in manners. Her actions while eating were graceful and elegant.

He berated himself for being distracted. His assistant sent him the investigation report about Angel. The report stated that Steve Hart was seriously injured on the day he exacted his revenge on his father. He was fleeing from Graystone Mansion when he encountered a car accident. It was at that time when Angel's mother appeared to save him.

She was cruising on the same highway as Steve. When Steve Hart's car was hit by a trailer, Martha Stewart was driving behind him. Somehow, she managed to pull Steve out of the wreckage before the car exploded.

She took care of Steve during the three months that he recuperated. Steve Hart was grateful to her. When he learned that she was a single mother, he proposed to marry her. She accepted as she did not want her daughter to be without a father.

After they came together, Steve Hart became increasingly successful. In one of his interviews, he acknowledged that his daughter, Angel, was his lucky star. It was because of her that he amassed a fortune and grew his empire.

His assistant sent him another paternity report. When he opened it, he was so shocked that he stared at Angel for a long time with his mouth agape.

Who was the woman he married? Whose child was she?
