Chapter 2 - THE DISCOVERY

Chapter 2

***

On a distant island, a community of non-mortal beings is formed known as Humans. An empathy for weaklings and diseases. Villages were built housing a mass population of thousands for their only survival is the lake called Lamprey at the heart of " Aruntanga" The village in which they reside.

The lake has been known to their ancestors and some believed it possessed magical properties of both good and evil. The lake questions disbelief as people up till this very day have yet to discover the true meaning behind its formation. No one dares to speak of what is happening around them or pay a heavy price with their lives.

The sun is illuminating around the village and birds are flying to Norway in search of a new home. A great wail of noise is heard from a distance. People immediately close their windows, close their doors, and turn off their lights.

" It is coming!" A man says, trembling at the peak of his voice. He closes his doors which everyone immediately responds to as well.

A Squonk is a mystic creature that appears every 10th of every month in Aruntanga. Though they aren't dangerous but are vile to people who laugh at them due to their ugly features. There are consequences to people who laugh at the creature, they either disappear and are taken to a new realm where they are never heard by anyone again.

Everyone keeps silent, as it makes its way along the road to the other side of the village. minutes passed by and no words were uttered. The place is as silent as a graveyard. Not until a passer-by who had just returned from the lake unknowingly on his torch, pointed to the figure he had spotted.

" What the hell are you? " Says the passerby, standing amid the creature.

*screeching noises echo* The creature turns around to face him.

" Good gravy, you're the ugliest thing I have ever seen! Hahaha! Hahaha!"'Goes the man sheepishly.

The creature screeching more loudly in anger, closes in and kicks him to the ground. It grew bigger, claws coming out from its hands and countless razor teeth formed around its mouth.

" P…please don't hurt me." Begs the man who quavered in fear.

*Screeching noises* It opened its jaw wild and grabbed him by his neck.

" Ahh!" The man cried in pain as the creature took off and disappeared with him.

The following day what was left of him was a trail of blood, a torch, and a hat on the ground. The rest was history. Where was he taken to? nobody knows. That has always been a mystery in Aruntanga village.

After two weeks…

The season of wild flowers blossoms around the village of Aruntanga, as the time for women to get pregnant comes closer day by day. Women who are pregnant don't sleep in the same house with their husbands, Instead, they are taken to a barn where they are monitored till the time they are ready to give birth.

Sadly not all babies are delivered alive, some die in the wombs of their mothers while some women die during childbirth. They have no equipment to save their lives but allow nature to take its cause.

In Aruntanga village a struggling couple a 23-year-old lady by the name Gina Salvatore on of the best dancers in Aruntanga is six months pregnant with her husband Brycen Salvatore, a 27 years old poor man who was once banished for his sins of fornication, in the act of sleeping with two women after his marriage to his wife one week after but later brought back after 2 years of punishment.

As cruel as he treated his wife, Gina never had hatred towards him but rather prayed for him, hoping one day he would be the changed man he is today. Now Brycen is happy to reunite with his wife once again. The Excitement he gets when he thinks of becoming a father makes him love his wife dearly. Though, a poor man, his baby would be his most prized possession.

At 5 pm….

Brycen decided to go to the lake of Lamprey to fish for his wife and him. He was known to be the best fisherman in Aruntanga village and the first man to set sail on the Red Sea.

Just like a normal evening work, he gets his bits of dead mossel and sea snails to fish for catfish, jellyfish, octopus, and squid. He set his fishing line with bait and tossed it into the lake. Patiently, he waits waiting for a sign to draw in his catch.

His fish lines dangle motionly as he reels in his catch with his finishing rod. He brings to shore a big octopus, on the second attempt he reels in a squid, and on the final attempt he reels in a jellyfish. Satisfied and impressed with what he did, he got ready to pack up to leave but a second thought came across his mind.

He thinks of his wife who is heavily pregnant and decides to give it one last attempt. He sets his bait as usual and waits patiently for a catch. Minutes later, this fishing line moves vigorously and becomes heavier as he attempts to reel in the catch but what he sees in sight is not an octopus, squid, or jellyfish. What he reeled in was a crystal ball.

Curious and frightened, he threw away his fishing line and tried to make a run for it. Suddenly, a calm distorted voice spoke up as the crystal ball changed colors, and colors of different light illuminate the lake of Lamprey.

*Do not be afraid, I do not wish to harm you but I have come to let you know about a great prophecy. You see Brycen, the child your wife carries in her isn't an ordinary child but the key to either reuniting or destroying two kingdoms…A war between Fae Fawn and Noxus has been in constant war for decades. Dark supernaturals known as vampires have plunged both kingdoms to their very feet."

" H..how can it be? My wife and I are just humans and nothing more. The vampire you speak of? Who are they?" Brycen asked, Shivering in his spine, breathing calmly.

*You mean who? He has no compassion and his cruelty is far worse than his father's. He goes by the name Demon Bane. The vampire king and the prince of the blood of House Storm."

" What do I do? Who do I tell?" Brycen goes into sadness, widening his eyes.

*You shall not speak of it to anyone, be it your wife or people who are close to you. It's a sacrifice that must be made if you ever want your child to survive. Now go and never tell a soul."

Immediately, the crystal globe stops bringing out light and the lake is back to the way it was before. Brycen quickly packs up and heads home to meet his wife.

Twenty minutes later…

Brycen walks back home exhausted but collapses a distance away from his house. Luckily, Gina sees him on time and rushes towards him.

" Brycen!Brycen!" She calls out to him but gets no reply.

She immediately carries him on her shoulders trying to lift his heavy body twice as heavy as hers. She manages to get her balance on her two feet and slowly brings him inside their home.

She places him on their bed and gets a bowl of water and a towel. She dips the towel inside the bowl of water, squeezing out the towel and gently dabbing it on Brycen's forehead. moments later he begins to get himself and coughs loudly.

" What happened?" He voices dead low trying to get up.

" Hey now, easy, you fainted close to our house and I had to bring you back inside." She tells him to place his head on her lap.

" Really? I see. What about the baby?" He asked her, caressing the right side of her belly.

" He's fine, only he's been kicking a lot," She tells him giggling.

" He? You think it's a boy?" Brycen asks her, looking into her eyes.

" Well, yes of course. I feel he's going to be just like his father when he grows up." she pouts, smiling down at him.

" Gina, can I ask you a question?" he asked, getting up from her lap.

" Yes my love, what is it?" She continues with him.

" What if our child wouldn't be normal? What if he is different from us?" He asked, clasping his two hands in hers.

"Why the sudden question?" She Questioned him getting up from the bed.

" No reason just wanting to know your opinion?" He tells her.

" Well, till that time comes, Whatever he becomes I will always love him no matter what," Gina tells him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and kissing him softly on his lips.

Brycen smiled at her and wrapped his arms around him. He already knew the fate of their child but fear of telling her would only complicate matters.

" I'm sorry my love but it's a sacrifice I must make if we ever have a chance in raising our son." He silently said in his thoughts.
