Chapter 53: The discovery
Moth and Aaron bid each other farewell after a day of sales, their friendship seemingly still intact. But as Moth watched his friend's retreating figure, his smile faltered, replaced by a wave of guilt.
"I can't believe I lied to him," he thought to himself, his mind tortured by the deceit. "Aaron—my best friend, who I've never lied to before." The weight of his actions seemed to bear down on him, crushing his spirit like a leaden cloak.
The crisp air seemed to carry away the weight of Moth's guilt, a gentle breeze cooling his heated thoughts as he continued his journey home. His face, once contorted with anguish, was now a beacon of joy, lit up by the promise of seeing his son.
"He'll be so happy to see me," Moth thought, a smile playing at the edges of his lips. "And I'll be so happy to see him too." The worry that had once plagued his mind was forgotten, eclipsed by the anticipation of their reunion.
