Riley shifted her weight from one foot to the other, the afternoon sun beating down on her as she stood by the roadside. Her mind was made up, her decision firm and unyielding. If working for Kiara for a month would help save her mother, then that's exactly what she would do.
The sun was high in the sky, the air thick with the promise of another sweltering day, and not a single taxi in sight. Riley cursed under her breath, frustration mounting with each passing moment.
"Where the hell are all the taxis?!" she muttered, her hands curling into fists as she stared down the empty street. A quick glance at her watch confirmed her fears. 12:39am.
"F*ck!".
Just when Riley was about to give up hope, a glint of silver and a familiar rumble of an engine pierced through the silence of the street. A taxi had pulled up right in front of her, as if the universe had heard her plea.
