Chapter 10 - 10| When in Trouble, Bootlick Your Way Out

Elynora thought about it carefully.

If she stayed here, she might just die of a heart attack. So it was better for her to go into her room and finish the novel she was reading before she died. The plot was too interesting, and she didn't want any regrets in her afterlife.

It seemed as if the conversation between Calor, Arabella and Calix had come to an end. The maids started to clean up the plates. Nora took the opportunity to sneak away silently.

But before she could do that, an amused voice entered her ears suddenly. He was so close that it caressed her ears, she could even feel him breathing lightly.

"Where are you planning to go to, hmm?"

Nora's scalp tingled. And she turned around to run, but a powerful force pulled her back into a rock-hard chest. She yelped in surprise. His tone in her ears sounded as if he wanted to laugh. "Miss Elynora, what are you doing here?"

She opened her mouth to say that she was just passing by, but that clearly sounded like an excuse. Nora's only strength was that she was quick on her feet and was a good talker.

"Ah, Sir Calix, I didn't expect to run into you so suddenly. I was taking a walk since I had too many sweets and my stomach felt bloated. To my surprise, I saw you, Cal and Arabella, sitting and chatting together. I of course wanted to join since I admire you so much but, looking at the harmonious atmosphere, I couldn't possibly interfere."

She threw in a sniffle here, then continued, "Just as I finally gathered the courage to come over. The maids were already cleaning up the plates. So I decided I should sneak away quietly without causing trouble," Nora finished in one breath.

It was a perfect response, really. Her bootlicking skills were great.

Calix suddenly had a thought. Suddenly, a thought occurred to him and he understood why she, of all people, was sent to assassinate him. It was probably not because the person was looking down on him, rather, it was meant to be a death sentence for her since she talked so much nonsense.

"You admire me?" He asked with a calm face.

"Yes, yes!" Nora nodded vigorously. Anything to score points with the Demon King.

"Then let's have a conversation now."

"Yes, sure." She would leave without making a fuss.

Nora blinked. Did she hear correctly?

'Wait, what?'

"Huhh?" An uncertain noise left her mouth. There was no way she was willingly going to sit and converse with him! What if he asked her weird questions like the night before?

"I suddenly feel my stomach churning because of the sweets. It seems I have to go now. See you later, Sir Calix!" She quickly escaped out of his arms and ran to her room, not caring about how stupid she looked.

Calix looked at the warm little thing that had escaped and was running, then at his arms in disappointment. His body was always cold, so the small Lady felt good to hold. He thought about the excuse she had used to run away, and let out a low laugh. He turned around to go back to investigating the Duchy.

They did have many unique things in here that piqued his interest. A certain red-haired Lady was on top of that list.

It was Elynora's first time dreaming since she had come into this world. She was mostly aware of the distinction between dream and realities, so it wasn't difficult to realize that she was in a dream.

There was the sound of horrendous screams as everything and everyone around her burned alive in bright pink flames. There was a woman in front of Nora repeatedly yelling something as if possessed.

Flames covered her as she hung onto Nora, but she remained unharmed while the woman burned alive, her skin boiling and her hair turning to ashes. It was happening right in front of her, the smell of the burning flesh so vivid and the sight before her eyes grotesque, but the voices sounded faint, as if they were far away separated by a barrier.

Although she didn't expect an answer, Nora still yelled, "What are you saying? What do you want me to do?!"

The woman suddenly became calm, her eyes closing and her yells subsiding to a silent prayer. A smile broke out on her face.

In an instant, the fire suddenly grew big and pink flames covered her vision.

Elynora woke up in shock.

Cold sweat drenched her back, and her body burned hot like the flames in her nightmare. Her red hair was sticking to her face. Nora wiped her sweaty hands on the quilt and rubbed her face.

She just sat there motionless, recalling her nightmare.

It was actually a recurring one that she had even in her previous life. But this time, it was different. The flames were not normal flames, but pink like her own purification flames that she had obtained after transmigrating here.

The woman had never stopped yelling in her previous nightmares.

These two differences made her spine breakout in chills.

'Did this nightmare mean something?'

She had her doubts since she had mentioned for plot convenience that the Demon Hunters didn't dream often, and if they did, it was to hint at something important. Although Nora was barely a demon hunter, she was still a qualified one, so that rule should apply to herself, too.

But what made her truly horrified was that she had been having this terrible nightmare for years, even before transmigration. Even before she wrote this novel.

'Just how long exactly has this fate of mine been in motion?'

Nora sighed. She wasn't one to believe in gods before, but it seemed that the deity called 'Author of a Million Worlds' truly set her up and screwed her over. She even suspected her writing this novel had something to do with that scammer of a god.

Nora needed answers.
