Chapter 7 - 7| When You Want to Avoid Problems, Gaslighting is the Way to Go

Still, it was better to have a back-up plan in case things went away. Hence Nora arranged the pillows like she was sleeping in her room and happily went to another empty room to sleep.

She did not forget to place some basic alarm spells that she had read first thing after coming back to her room. If she died even after all this preparation, she would definitely take the demon king down with her.

She made a mental note to plant suspicion on Calix to Calor. Since he was the protagonist, he should be more wary of Calix, who was the demon king right? He definitely should not like the male creature that popped up outta nowhere near his future wife.

With that in mind, she confidently opened the door to the random room she had chosen.

The new room she had occupied was barren, and the bed was a bit hard, but because of the sense of security it provided, she snuggled into the numerous pillows she had carried over and went to sleep with a peace of mind.

...

When everyone had finally gone to bed after the hectic day, Calix Azarith opened his eyes.

He propped himself up on the soft bed that he had never had the luxury of using in the past five years after being sealed. The thought didn't make him angry, surprisingly he was just bored.

The mana sealing curse, which left a mark on his neck, went up in a black smoke at the flick of his finger.

There was a chill in his gold pupils underneath the long blue eyelashes as he sensed a low level demon's presence. He frowned.

How brave was this weak thing to think that it could hurt him?

With a slight movement, the low level demon went up in smoke before it even had the chance to scream. But the bravest one that tried to kill him earlier was still alive. So he decided to pay it a visit.

He didn't really need to go out of his way to find her. He could instinctively feel where that reckless little rascal was hiding through her mana. It seemed she even had the sense to not sleep in the room that she usually used, since there was a weak residual mana coming from another room.

Following the mana trail, he reached her location, opened the door to the room, and was taken aback to find her soundly asleep. He expected her to be awake and shivering in fear at the very least, after all the stupid things that she had said and done.

She even boldly told him to go on a diet after all.

He looked at her closely. Bright red hair, resembling the sunset, sprawled on the covers. Dark red eyebrows were in a frown. Those pink eyes, afraid of his every movement, were closed, but her long red lashes twitched and her tiny nose scrunched as if something was uncomfortable. Small red lips were partly open, lightly snoring.

Her quilt got kicked off the bed, and she tightly hugged the pillow, making him wonder if it would rip. He only had one thought as he took in this scene.

'How could she sleep like an animal? And not even a cute one at that.'

He really didn't want to get near such a person, let alone touch her. Alas, he had something to check.

He touched her hand on the pillow, and sure enough, a bright pink flame was lit.

A flame that could be used to forge a divine weapon against demon kind. Of course, not a single person other than him would be able to recognise it. He killed everyone else who could.

This reckless little lady would not die today.

After he was sealed, countless people wanted him dead, but all of them, of course, failed in their attempts that never ceased. Like a moth drawn to a flame, assassins always came to him even if they knew they would die. He looked at the woman in front of him and her fragile neck that he could snap in two if he wished.

He did not want to kill her, rather; he was curious about which idiot sent her of all people and wanted to kill them.

'What an absolute moron, sending me the thing I desire most.'

He looked at the pink flame again and touched it curiously. It felt pleasantly warm to the touch, then took his hand away and looked at it in disgust. He shook his hands a few times, as if waving away the touch.

Calix took one last glance at her ugly sleeping posture and turned to leave immediately.

...

After the sound of footsteps faded, Elynora cautiously opened her eyes. Her bright pink eyes were trembling in fear. She woke up the moment someone touched her hand. She was a pretty light sleeper and couldn't help but wake up!

And now she wished she hadn't.

She felt like she learned something she shouldn't.

'How come my flame didn't hurt Calix? He's the Demon King!'

She didn't want to entertain the possibility but, was this the reason it was so hard to figure out that Calix was the Demon King in the original? She just wrote that no one found out that he was indeed the Demon King till he revealed it himself near the end. She really was a terrible author who left a lot of plot holes.

Was Calix then not a demon but... Human? Because even half demons were hurt by her flames, according to the original owner's memories.

Or maybe he was such a high level demon that he couldn't be hurt by such low-level purification flames like hers. Yes. That must have been the reason.

Nora sighed in relief. And hence she gaslit herself into not thinking too much.

She didn't know what Calix came here for, though. Maybe he wanted to give her a fright and play with her like a toy for a while before he killed her? She wouldn't have thought that the demon king was this petty, but after he robbed her of her health recovery potions, she knew that this demon king was definitely petty.

She wouldn't fall for such mind games. She decided to take a walk to cool off.

Nora walked over to the door and pushed it open. She froze as she saw a figure standing in the dark and quickly tried to shut the door, but strong, tan hands grasped it before she could.

Calix looked at her with a leisurely smile and pulled the door open.

She pasted a business smile on her face.

"What a coincidence, Sir Calix. You must be out for a walk, too."

His smile widened, "Indeed. We just met today, but you already seem to know me well, My Lady."
