Chapter 3 - The Siege of Tilokas - Part 1

Prologue

1276, Autumn, 52nd Day

A few days after the battle, the Kurgestians had ultimately reached the city walls of Tilokas. They would soon build their siege camp, just at the outskirts of the city. Meanwhile, the rebels hastily recruited everyone they could get, as most of their able-bodied men died last battle.

After the death of the rebel leader Usars, a young, charismatic lady assumed the position. Her name was Hera, a noble that helped the rebels and second in command. The reason she wasn't in the battle was because she had to stay back to organise the city.

However, with the looming threat all over them, the people would start to not believe that a young woman couldn't manage even a battle, let alone a war. But Hera would later proved them by the attack that would be initiated.

The Battle

1276, Autumn, 83rd Day

The first attack began when the Kurgestians launched trebuchets on the walls. The Atalikans replied with their catapults. Meanwhile, the attackers were to breach the gates with its battering ram, and some others storming the castle walls with ladders.

Hera saw this as an opportunity to defeat the Kurgestians, by first arranging a defense to the walls, while only leaving some of her best men by the gate. Hera hoped that the Kurgestians would focus on the walls instead, while her personal troops would focus on the gate.

The assault would continue for an hour, with the Atalikans pushing down the ladders and throwing rocks at them. The soldiers at the gate had achieved similar results, them being able to fend off the attackers while keeping their casualties minimal.

It wasn't long before the Kurgestians started to retreat. Although the Atalikans managed to repel their attack, they knew it wasn't over yet as their enemies have more troops ready for battle. As when night started to set in, Hera ordered some the tacticians to the war room.

It was a meeting on how they would take down the Kurgestians, with some opted to sally out while others wanted to be on the defensive. After hearing these back and forth arguments, Hera planned for something to repel the Kurgestians, or at the very least weaken them.
