Chapter 14 - Sister-in-law

Thanks to Melisa's luck in finding her family in the crowd when she was listening to King Dillion's speech, Melisa could barely hear what King Dillion was talking about throughout his speech. Melisa only slightly caught King Dillion talking about her, who was standing next to Alexius. But from the way he spoke, Melisa could guess that King Dillion was quite satisfied with her performance since she stayed in the Sigmund Kingdom.

"Princess, we should get going."

"Ah, alright."

When Alexius dragged her to attend a meeting with important people first, Melisa had no choice but to follow him obediently. Melisa finally broke her gaze from her family. She could only smile at them before she left to attend the main event.

Once Melisa separated from the people she knew, the girl returned to looking serious and managed to attend the Sigmund Kingdom's sacred event very seriously. If Teresa or any of her other family members saw Melisa, they would probably shed a tear of joy at her progress. Melisa may no longer be a free girl who can act and do whatever she wants. But with her calm appearance, Melisa looked like a goddess who came down to earth just to become the mate of the future most powerful man in the Sigmund Kingdom.

"With this, the coming of age ceremony of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexius is finally completed."

With a round of applause from the select people who were allowed to witness Alexius' coming-of-age ceremony, Melisa finally realized that she finished her duty for that day. Melisa let out a sigh of relief as the result of her performance today turned out better than she expected. Through the supportive gazes of the few nobles who saw her, Melisa knew that she had finally been accepted as Alexius' future wife.

"Princess, you can see your family if you want."

"Alright, I'll do that."

Melisa smiled sincerely when Alexius told her that she was finally loosened from her duty to always be by Alexius' side. Melisa left Alexius quickly after that. Her anticipation of meeting her family was so great that she forgot everything to look for them amidst the people trying to get acquainted with her.

"Your Highness!"

"Sister-in-law!"

Melisa's eyes lit up when she finally found the person she was looking for, as the people moved to look for her. Melisa wanted to lunge at her loved ones as usual. But when Melisa remembered her etiquette lesson again, she immediately stopped her steps to give them a polite salute.

"Nice to see you again. Sister-in-law, Sir John."

Even though it wasn't her parents who came to the Sigmund Kingdom, let alone her brother, the mere presence of Lady Violet, her brother's fiancée, and the head knight made Melisa very happy. Lady Violet and Sir John had been close to Melisa since she was a child. Therefore, their existence was no different from Melisa's original family.

"This kingdom sure changed you, Your Highness."

After seeing the change in Melisa's behavior when she met them, Lady Violet said in a voice that contained a million emotions. Lady Violet was indeed happy that Melisa had finally become a true lady with her elegant demeanor. But when Lady Violet thought about the fact that Melisa didn't have that attitude on her own accord, she felt sad every time she saw Melisa.

"I must change someday, Sister-in-Law. Something is bound to change once I enter adulthood."

Lady Violet let out a long breath after she heard Melisa's answer. Now was not the right time to talk about something sad. Therefore, Lady Violet preferred to leave that topic to move on to the next one.

"By the way, you must be disappointed that only Sir John and I were able to come today. His Majesty and Her Majesty, along with His Highness Oliver, actually wanted to come to see how you were doing. But due to the state of our kingdom, none of them can fulfill their wishes, Your Highness."

Melisa understood what her sister-in-law meant. Although they had signed a peace treaty, before Melisa was officially married to Alexius, there was no guarantee that they would not be in danger if they came to the Sigmund Kingdom. Even so, sending random people to come as representatives of the Cyrille Kingdom was also not allowed. Their only choice probably fell on Lady Violet, who was the daughter of a famous duke in the Cyrille Kingdom, as well as her brother's fiancée, along with Sir John, who was a chief knight.

"Even so, they left a letter for you to read, Your Highness."

Smiling, Lady Violet took out three letters that she held carefully. Melisa accepted them with open arms. The girl struggled to hold back her tears as she looked at the familiar writings of the people she loved.

"Thank you very much, Sister-in-Law."

Melisa sincerely thanked Lady Violet, who had been willing to make the dangerous journey just to deliver the letters. Lady Violet must have realized that sending letters to each other was not permitted by the Sigmund Kingdom. Therefore, the only way for Melisa to catch up with her family was to deliver the letter in person, just like now.

"I would do anything for my sweet sister-in-law, Your Highness."

Although Lady Violet was not as beautiful as Melisa, who was known as the most beautiful girl in the Cyrille Kingdom, Lady Violet's sincere smile was the reason why Crown Prince Oliver could love his fiancée so much. Melisa felt so good after they met again and talked casually like before. Not to forget, they also did not ignore Sir John, who stood behind Lady Violet to listen to their conversation.

"Your Highness, may I hear some news about Teresa?"

Sir John was close to Teresa as a fellow knight in the Kingdom of Cyrille. Therefore, Melisa did not find it strange that Sir John would suddenly ask about Teresa.

"Teresa does her job well, as she always does whatever it takes to make sure I'm comfortable in this place. Unfortunately, with her current status, many restrictions make her movements less free in this place."

Thinking about Teresa having to become a servant in order to be with her always managed to make Melisa feel both guilty and sad. Her mood unconsciously dropped because of it. As Melisa's shoulders drooped weakly, Sir John immediately thought of a way to comfort his princess.

"But if we think about Teresa's nature, just being able to continue serving you is a blessing in itself. I guess, no matter what, she's still excited about serving you, isn't she?"

Sir John's comforting words managed to make Melisa smile again. Indeed. Although Teresa's life was much more difficult in the Sigmund Kingdom, Melisa could see nothing but pride whenever Teresa looked her way.

"Greetings, Your Highness. I, Amelia, wish you good health and prosperity."

In the middle of their conversation, someone boldly interrupted the conversation by greeting Melisa. For some reason, the atmosphere became strange after the strange girl in front of Melisa greeted her with a big smile. Melisa remembered where she had heard that name before. Then, when Melisa finally managed to recall it, a look of surprise was printed on the princess's face.
