Chapter 25 - This Is Lexi

Earth's Fall- Day 2- 6:00PM- Maitlane Bridge, Penelope, Harring's Port, West Wing.

The sound of sirens and radios tore through the early morning air. Indistinct chatter could be heard amidst the crowding. It was a cloudy morning in the town of Penelope, where police cars were aligned on the historical bridge connecting the West and South Wings.

There was a lot of murmuring and indefinite movement among the police officers. People watched from their office buildings and the surrounding streets, even after being told to back away.

It had been broadcasted on the news the previous evening that all connections with the South Wing had been lost. Officials could hear the screams of people calling for help over their phones before the signals went dead. It hadn't even been 24 hours, but they needed to take precautions. Troops were sent to all boundaries and borders with the South Wing, awaiting further orders.

The people didn't seem that concerned, they all thought it was just another rumour. Creatures they say?

Everywhere suddenly became quiet; only the sound of gentle waves under the bridge could be heard. All present gasped as they noticed the sky on the horizon, toward the South Wing, getting darker. It looked as if it was spreading toward them. From the opposite, far end of the bridge, brown and grey humanoid creatures stumbled their way out.

There was now a full alert. The officers and troopers armed themselves and took positions, while some spoke into megaphones, alerting the citizens. Some citizens stood in awe, some pulled out their smartphones to record, while others panicked early.

The leading officer went through the procedures, telling the brainless creatures to stand down.

No action was taken yet until the South Wing's end of the bridge was filled with Ròkks. And they lunged forward, running.

Fire!

Now the citizens were frightened, with sounds of bullets booming through the air as tankers, pistols, rifles, and machine guns were all used. The Ròkks fell to pieces when any piece of metal touched them. During the reload, a certain officer launched a rocket, which eradicated a significant number.

But that wasn't enough. There were still many! Dominating the better part of the bridge, the enforcers began to panic as the citizens fled.

The Southern-West Wing, gone.

[Levi I could do something about it, we could do something about it]

"Don't you think?" Levi inquired with irony. "She's bleeding to death," he made her situation clear.

Lexi sighed. [Merge with me]

Levi looked around him. He shot Nate a hostile glare, but the boy was already running off to meet Jamie, calling her name. Paige had followed them too, into the infinite darkness. The team was now split in two. It was just him, Abby, Box, Brody, and the now dwindling flames.

Levi swallowed. "In front of all of them?" Levi asked Lexi.

[Like you said, she is bleeding and we can do something about it]

Levi inhaled sharply and said, "Alright." He raised his head to the sky, starting to feel unalone in his body. He felt the veins creep toward his eyes, his neck stiffened, and a surge of life moved through him.

When the merging process was done, he looked at Box and Brody, whose eyes were as wide as ever. Understandably so.

He looked down at Abby and wiped the perfusing blood off her face. She stared at him, still drooling the red liquid, frightened by his appearance. The bright blue from his eyes reflected on her face, and his black, wired hand petted it.

Suddenly, his hand spread across her face like a symbiote, his fingers transforming into a thick liquid. It wrapped around her head as blue veins sourced into her. After the process, Levi retreated his hand, revealing an undamaged face. Abby looked up at him, surprised. Levi was surprised at himself too. He could heal?

[Good job, Levi]

[Limbs Transfiguration unlocked]

Abby coughed and tried to sit up; Levi helped her, but she refused his aid. She drew back from him, lowering her gaze to his neck and arms. "Wh-Wh-What?" she muttered.

Levi looked around, spotting Brody. They all stared at him with fear in their eyes.

He got to his feet and drew back, shifting his gaze to each of them. He was a monster. He couldn't blame them; he found his transfigured skin scary himself. Levi licked his lips, in a bid to explain everything.

"Well....," he started. "You once asked me who the hell was Lexi?" Levi asked, his veined face begging with hope. He raised his arms across himself. "This is Lexi."

The silence was unbearable for Levi. He half expected them to be excited, maybe amazed by it, but they all stared like he was a ticking bomb.

Abby walked closer to him. Slowly and trembly, she placed her palm on his cheek, feeling the wires and scales. "How?" She asked, her face with so much query.

"I don't know. Like I had said, I'm confused myself," Levi replied.

"You healed me?"

Levi chuckled, "Yeah, I think I did."

[Good to see things this way, I had taken a risk]

Box and Brody approached, still staring at him. Brody flashed his usual smile and reached out to feel Levi's veined skin. Box only skimmed him from head to toe, with astonishment scribbled all over his face.

"You player!" Brody teased, nudging Levi on the arm. They all chuckled and laughed, temporarily forgetting their horrible condition.

"Well, thank you," Abby uttered wryly as she kept searching his face with her fingers.

"Uhm- ugh," Levi stammered, jerking his head away from Abby's pestering fingers. "That's enough."

He quickly raised his head up when he heard something. "Lexi? Do you hear that?"

[I do]

Abby looked up at him. "Hear what?"

Roar!

The ground shook, and an eruption from below flung them to the ground. Tentacles, similar to those that had destroyed the jet, emerged from beneath. One grabbed Box by the waist and thrust him high into the air.

The rest were lucky to have evaded another tentacle that landed, aiming for them.

[Now, some action]
