Chereads / The Heir Of Two Worlds / Chapter 20 - Hijacked

Chapter 20 - Hijacked

As the day of the field trip dawned, Miss Hernandez, their class adviser, gathered the students at the port, her eyes scanning the bustling crowd for any signs of trouble.

Standing on the dock, surrounded by the sounds of seagulls and the gentle lapping of waves against the pier, she addressed them

"Remember, students, this trip is not just about sightseeing and relaxation. It's an opportunity for cultural enrichment, learning, and, most importantly, staying safe,"

"We must stick together, look out for one another, and follow the instructions of the ship's crew at all times," Miss Hernandez continued, her eyes scanning each of their faces to ensure her message sank in.

"Remember, stay with your group, and don't wander off:"

Max began. "Hopefully, the food is decent. School cafeteria meals are getting old."

Aiden straightened.

Luna nudged him with her elbow.

"So," she whispered

"anything interesting you want to tell us about this 'field trip'?"

Aiden's smile was tight. "Just a little extracurricular activity,"

"Maybe even a little sightseeing."

Max, oblivious as ever, "Maybe they'll have a casino on board too man."

Sarah rolled her eyes. "Max, this isn't a cruise vacation. Remember, research papers are due next week."

Aiden smiled. "Relax, we can have some fun and still be cultured tourists."

Luna piped up. "Speaking of culture, have any of you familiarized yourselves with the places we'll be visiting?"

Aiden responded.

"Nope, not really. Mostly just excited to get away from textbooks for a while."

With a shared laugh, the group boarded the ship.

Hours melted away as the sun dipped towards the horizon. The ship thrummed with the low rumble of its engines.

Aiden, Sarah, Max, and Luna found themselves sprawled on poolside loungers

Sarah sketched the vibrant scene in her notebook, capturing the laughter and movement of the students around them.

Aiden couldn't help but steal glances at the endless expanse of the ocean. His unease, a constant companion these days, had dulled in the face of his friends' carefree energy. Perhaps, just for a little while, he could allow himself to enjoy the moment.

"Something bothering you?" Luna asked

Aiden shook his head.

"Just taking in the view." He gestured towards the endless expanse of the ocean.

Luna raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "Right."

Just then, a booming announcement crackled through the ship's PA system.

"Attention all passengers,"

"we'll be hosting a poolside dance party shortly after dinner. Don't miss out on the fun!"

A cheer erupted from the nearby students, their anticipation palpable.

Max grinned at Aiden. "Looks like we have a post-dinner activity, dude."

Luna raised an eyebrow "Well, if you're not interested in the view, how about a challenge?"

Intrigued, Aiden turned his attention to her. "What kind of challenge?"

Luna grinned

"There's a rock climbing wall on the upper deck. Loser buys gelato."

Aiden chuckled. "You're on then."

A sleek, black yacht suddenly appeared, cutting through the water with menacing speed. It positioned itself directly in the path of the students' cruise ship.

Panic flickered across the faces of the students as the cruise ship lurched to a halt.

Sarah scrambled to her feet while Max looked around in confusion.

From the deck of the black yacht, figures emerged

"Attention passengers," Zola sarcastically began.

"This is your captain speaking. Consider this a friendly takeover."

"We have no intention of harming any of you," the voice continued.

"Simply hand over control of the ship, and everyone walks away unharmed."

The crowd surged towards the railing, fear and confusion filled their faces

"Again, all we ask is your cooperation. Hand over control of the ship, and no one gets hurt."

"Don't make us come aboard and take it by force," another voice warned

The ship's captain, emerged from his cabin,

He grabbed the loudspeaker. "We will not comply with your demands"

Zola laughed,

"Oh, Captain," she said

"you underestimate the lengths some people will go to for what they believe in. Consider this a… hostile takeover. And trust me, resistance will be quite… unpleasant."

The air split with a deafening roar as the yacht launched a volley of energy blasts with their high tech weapons at the cruise ship. Chaos erupted on the deck. People ran, screaming, searching for cover.

Aiden glanced at Luna, their eyes meeting in a silent exchange.

Just as they reached the final handhold from their rockclimbing challenge, the ship lurched violently.

Aiden, caught off guard, lost his grip.

With a sickening thud, he slammed against the floor,

A hazy image of Luna appeared above him.

Her voice, muffled and distant, reached him. "Aiden can you hear me?!" The world faded to black, and Aiden slipped into unconsciousness.

With a feral grin, Flint aimed his grappling hook at the cruise ship's railing and fired. The cable shot across the gap, embedding itself deep in the metal with a resounding clang.

Bruiser grabbed the cable and slid down with the speed of a falling boulder.

Flint and Zola followed zipped. They landed on the deck with a bone-jarring thud, sending shockwaves through the crowd.

The security team opened fire. A hail of bullets rained down upon Bruiser and Flint.

But their armor seemed impervious. The bullets clattered harmlessly off their armor, leaving only angry dents.

The security guards, their courage faltering, began to back away.

One, braver than the others, charged at Flint with a desperate yell.

In a blur of motion, Flint sidestepped the charge, his knife flashing in the dying light. The guard's scream was cut short as the blade found its mark, painting the deck with his blood.

"Help! Is anyone a doctor?" she screamed, "Heneeds a medic, now!"

"Please!"

Tears welled in Luna's eyes, but she blinked them back, forcing clarity. She couldn't afford to break down. Aiden needed her. With a strength born of desperation, she scooped him up, surprised at his weight despite his lean frame

"Think!" she muttered to herself

Fighting was pointless, she had no powers, no combat training. Her only option – hide.

Spotting a large storage closet tucked away in a corner of the deck, Luna stumbled towards it, her breath ragged.

Reaching the door, she fumbled with the latch, praying it wasn't locked. Thankfully, it swung open with a groan.

Suddenly, the sounds of gunfire grew closer – shouts, the thuds of bodies colliding, the sharp crack of gunfire. Luna squeezed her eyes shut, her head pounding.

With a deep breath, she forced herself to act. Leaving Aiden nestled against the wall of the closet, she slammed the door shut and wrestled with the lock, her trembling fingers finally clicking it shut.

She needed to find Max and Sarah, maybe event he captain. Maybe, just maybe, there was a way to fight back.

Spotting a sign pointing towards the emergency exits, Luna sprinted down the corridor. She pushed through a swinging door, nearly colliding with Max and Sarah huddled together, their faces filled with terror.

"Luna! Thank goodness you're okay!" Sarah cried, throwing her arms around Luna in a fierce hug.

Max gripped her shoulders. "Where's Aiden?"

A lump formed in Luna's throat. "He's... safe. For now." She couldn't explain further, not with the encroaching danger.

Suddenly, a deafening screech tore through the air. The entire ship lurched violently, throwing them off balance.

Before anyone could react, the cruise ship slammed into the ice a monstrous wall of ice, with a bone-jarring impact.

A scream ripped from Luna's lips as the world seemed to explode around them. Alarms blared, lights flickered and died, plunging the hallway into darkness.

The ship tilted precariously, sending them sprawling to the floor.

Causing Aiden's head to bang against a solid surface.

Aiden's eyes suddenly glowed again.

Unbeknownst to his conscious mind, his godly heritage surged forth, awakening powers long dormant within him once more.
