Chapter 1 - Awakening

Cold. Cold water splashed against my face jolting me awake. Gasping for breath, I blinked rapidly, trying to make sense of my surroundings. The air was thick with the a metallic scent, a stark contrast to the sterile white tiles beneath me.

'Where... where am I?'

Confusion clouded my thoughts as I struggle to recall how I ended up in this unfamiliar place. My memories feel like fragmented pieces of a shattered mirror, reflecting nothing but confusion and uncertainty. Questions swirled in my mind, but answers remained elusive.

As I slowly pushed myself up from the tiled floor, my limbs felt heavy and uncoordinated. The room around me was small, dimly lit by flickering gas lamps. A mirror caught my gaze; I stumbled towards it, desperate for any semblance of recognition.

What I saw in the mirror sent a shiver down my spine. A face, not my own, stared back at me with eyes, like hollows, filled with despair. Dark circles etched beneath them, a testament to the sleepless nights haunted by unknown fears. My hands trembled as I reached up to touch the reflection, searching for some connection to the stranger staring back at me.

But before I could make sense of it all, a voice echoed in my mind, distant yet unmistakable.

"You are not who you once were."

The words reverberated through my consciousness, sending a chill down my spine. I glanced around the cramped bathroom, searching for the source of the voice, but found nothing.

"Who's there?" I called out, my voice wavering with uncertainty.

Silence greeted my inquiry, save for the faint hum of machinery in the distance. With a furrowed brow, I tried to piece together the fragments of my memory, but the harder I tried, the more they slipped through my fingers like sand.

Frustration gnawed at my insides as I struggled to make sense of the situation. How had I ended up here? And why do I feel like a stranger in my own body?

As I pondered these questions, a sense of foreboding washed over me, a hint of realization materializing on my face. As the spark of recollection emerged from my eyes, a familiar yet-unfamiliar name emerged in my mind.

"My name... is Lucas".
