Chapter 1 - Chapter I

Adália Vieira, with her silver hair and greenish eyes, is a dedicated veterinary student. Her love for animals was unwavering, and she dreamed of saving furry and feathered lives. But that night, as the moon peeked through the clouds, Adália was about to face a very different challenge.

The college group had organized a party in the old abandoned house on the outskirts of the city. The place, with its peeling walls and broken windows, was reputed to be haunted. Adália was not a fan of parties, especially those filled with loud music and forced laughter. She preferred the tranquility of her home, where the cats purred.

But her colleagues insisted, and Adália found herself wearing a navy blue dress that didn't match her worn-out boots at all. She arrived at the party and immediately felt out of place. The lights flickered, and the deafening sound made her wish she were anywhere else.

Adália saw a side door and escaped into the garden. The stars twinkled above, like little sparks of hope. She walked across the lawn, away from the laughter and commotion. That's when he heard a low meow coming from a bush, then another and another.

Curious, Adália approached and found a black kitten and two white ones. Its red eyes glowed in the darkness. She took him in her arms and felt her heart warm. "You also prefer the stars to parties, don't you?", he whispered to the feline.

Adália then decided to leave that place and took the three kittens with her. Walking through the open field of the park, illuminated only by the light of the Moon, Lia felt increasingly sad about the situation the kittens found themselves in.

-My God, how can you be so cruel, I'm going to take you home and find an incredible home for each of you. – Caress them.

Adália's house is a cozy haven, nestled in a quiet street, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The facade is painted in soft shades of blue and white, with windows adorned with lace curtains. A small garden at the front houses some colorful flowers.

Upon entering, you are greeted by the gentle aroma of incense and the soothing sound of classical music. The narrow hallway leads to the living room, where wooden bookshelves stretch from floor to ceiling, filled with books on animal anatomy, veterinary medicine and stories of pet adventures. A comfortable armchair is next to the window, perfect for Adália to lose herself in the pages of a novel while the afternoon sun illuminates the room.

Adália is sitting on the couch, and she strokes the soft fur of one of the kittens. They are so different from each other: one spotted, another all black and the third with white spots on its snout.

In the center of the room, a bowl of fresh water and another of food await the little felines. Adália gets up to grab a can of wet food, opening it carefully. The kittens come closer, sniffing the delicious aroma. She distributes the food onto three small plates, watching them eat voraciously.

The black cat, its fur shining like midnight, was huddled in the corner of the room. Adália had placed a small plate of food in front of him, but he remained motionless, indifferent to the tempting aroma that spread through the air. His green eyes were half-closed, as if he was in a state of deep contemplation.

Adália, worried, knelt down next to the cat. She stroked his fur, feeling the cold emanating from him. "What's wrong, my friend?" she whispered. "You are not hungry?"

But the cat didn't respond. He just blinked slowly, as if he was dreaming. Adália checked her pulse, feeling her heart beat weakly under her hand. Desperation began to tighten his chest. Was he sick? Or worse, was he dying?

She picked up the cat, ignoring the fact that her clothes would be covered in fur. She ran to the phone, ready to call the vet. But then, something happened.

The cat moved. His body grew warm, and he began to purr softly. Adália looked at him in disbelief. He was alive! Not only alive, but also very comfortable. He stretched, as if preparing for a long nap.

That's when Adália realized. The cat was not sick. He was just cold. She laughed, relieved and embarrassed at the same time. "You're a smart one, aren't you?" she said, putting him back down.

The cat looked at her with its red eyes, as if it was mocking her. Adália grabbed a blanket and wrapped him around him, making sure he stayed warm. He snuggled in, closing his eyes contentedly.
