Jaber had done everything within his knowledge and power, but he didn't like leaving it in the hands of fate. Whenever he did, he was guaranteed to lose.
So while the twins and Bella left, the latter begrudgingly, to get a shut-eye, Jaber stayed by Sindbad's side, making sure he stayed hydrated, cool, and that he got his doses of the brew.
He could not sleep. Whenever his eyes threatened to close, his mind insisted on conjuring the images of his siblings being taken from him one after the other. He knew he couldn't allow the same to happen again, not while he could help it.
Jaber could not comprehend why he was even going that far for the other boy's life. He was kind to him, that was right, despite Jaber not understanding why. But it wasn't like he knew Sindbad well enough to even call him a friend he cared for. They only shared a couple of meals together during which the other kid rambled about his adventures and travels.
