Sasuke, "Naruto, if Shisui is not proposing to your Nee - chan by the end of the year, then we are getting married the moment we become Chunnin."
Sakura snorted, "Pffffffffft!"
Naruto deadpanned at him, "You just want nee - chan's cooking."
Sakura, "Well, that is a swell plan for the future, Sasuke - kun. I have eaten Sensei's cooking too and wished more than once I had an older sibling who I can pester to marry her. If you get her through Naruto it will be fine too."
Naruto opened the door, "Really? Really? You guys, you are talking about my sister, you know?"
Sakura gave an impish grin, "Yes, yes we are. She is one of the best candidates for marriage among civilians, you know?"
Sasuke nodded, "My mother tells me the same thing. She has been on both Itachi and Shisui's case about this. Too bad Tanna - Sensei does not look interested or maybe she does not notice. I can't tell with her."
Naruto muttered, "Thank Kami for that."
Tanna, "Achooooo! Someone is saying unnecessary things about me."
Mikoto who was walking beside her asked in concern, "Are you alright dear?"
Tanna, "I am fine, Mikoto - san. Do not worry too much. I was just distracted."
Mikoto hummed, "Are you thinking about the Team tests that will happen today?"
Tanna, "Just wondering how it might be going is all. The kids have been working hard and their batch is the first batch with a whole new curriculum."
Mikoto, "True that. We will find out in the evening. Here we are at your class. I will go ahead and see you during lunch."
Tanna, "Sure Mikoto - san. See you later."
Tanna entered to a class full of kids quieting down on seeing her, "Good morning kids, today we are going to change things up a little. You have been studying the Klingon language for a while now. So, each of you are going to write a story in Klingon and share it with the class."
The kids perked up when Tanna - Sensei told them to pick any genre and let their imagination flow wild. Tanna sat back as the kids started to write and think about the story they wanted to create. She on the other hand tackled the paperwork she had in her hands which were the assignment of another class. By the time the kids were finished with their writing and stories, she had finished the batch she had brought with her. Next she had them tell their stories with the rest of the class and there were a few favourites and few not. Either way she congratulated them on being imaginative and thinking outside the box.
A Nara kid raised her hand, "Sensei, sensei!"
Tanna, "Yes Nara - san?"
The Nara child wrinkled her nose, "Just call me Tsuki sensei. Nara - san is my Dad."
Tanna smiled, "Very well Tsuki - san, what's wrong?"
Tsuki, "I just wanted to know why you insist we write fantasy stories and essays. What is the point?"
Tanna, "What do you know about Genjutsu?"
Another student who is an Inuzuka raised his hand, "It is an illusion technique."
Tanna, "Correct Inuzuka - san."
Inuzuka, "Just call me Ren, sensei."
Tanna, "Very well Ren - san. Now, as for why it is connected, genjutsu is only limited as your control and imagination. The broader your imagination the more complex your genjutsu. That is the very basic you studied right?"
Tsuki, "I think I get it. You want us to train our brains while working on the language too. It is like double training."
Tanna sweat dropped, "Yes, something close to that."
Tanna continued with the class. That was not really the true reason. She just want them to be kids and let their imagination loose while they were still kids in the Academy. Unfortunately the students as she has experienced don't like to be treated as kids so this was the only way, she could think of doing it. She only hoped this could help create fun memories for them as they learned in the Academy before they were thrusted into the war that will no doubt happen in the future. One thing Tanna has come to accept is that as a chakra less civilian, she will not be able to change what happens politically outside.
Tanna, "Okay class, time for break. You kids did great letting your imagination run wild in your stories."
A Hyuuga girl flushed, "We tried Sensei."
Tanna, "And you did great for beginners, as time goes by you will get better and better at doing this. And if you master chakra control a decide to take up Genjutsu. I have no doubt you will give your enemies a run for their money."
An Uchiha raised her hand, "Sensei."
Tanna, "Yes Uchiha - san."
Uchiha gave a smile, "Please call me Michiko, Sensei."
Hyuuga nodded, "I agree with Uchiha, please call me Nobara."
Tanna, "Very well. Tsuki - chan and Nobara - chan. I believe you have a question."
Tsuki, "Sensei, does Genjutsu work on you?"
Tanna, "No, luckily it does not."
Nobara, "Is it because you do not have chakra coils?"
Tanna, "Yes, yes, it is. But it does not mean it will not work on your enemies who have chakra coils."
Michiko, "Ummm.... That is some advantage and disadvantage Sensei. Does this mean chakra healing will not work as well?"
Tanna nodded, "Afraid so. There are no chakra coils in my body to accept the help so it would not work."
Haruno Katashi, "That sounds really complicated and hard Sensei. Even civilians have some chakra coils that can be trained to become stronger."
Tanna, "Perhaps it is but I have learned to use it to my advantage. Now, off you go you lot, go enjoy your lunch."
"Yes Sensei."
Tanna headed to the teacher's lounge after making sure none of the kids were loitering around the class. It was a rule for the kids to eat lunch outside with their friends to increase better chances at team work and all that jazz. Tanna half wondered how Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura were doing in their test, it was almost noon time after all. She hoped they were doing well, she remembers that Kakashi really run them to the ground in the test in the anime and manga. There was a scene of Naruto getting captured, Sakura fainting and Sasuke getting easily beaten and outsmarted. The day went on after that with Tanna teaching the older students while the younger ones had mock training.
Naruto, "Nee - chan, I am back."
Tanna, "Welcome home Naru - tan. How was the test?"
Naruto, "It was chaotic. Yeah, it was very chaotic. Did you know the Uchiha love hoarding flammable items? Sasuke had bottles of flammable oil in his scroll."
Tanna blinked, "Huh! That is new."
Naruto nodded, "Yeah, I was pretty surprised too, but it was useful."
Tanna, "Hmm. Give me a summary of how you beat Kakashi while I prepare dinner. I was thinking about making tempura from prawns and vegetables to go with the rice and soup."
Naruto, "Sounds good. I will wash up and join you, nee - chan."
Naruto ran off to take a very much needed bath to get rid of the dirt, pebbles in his hair and the soot on his skin. He loves Sasuke, truly he does, that boy is his first friend but it does not mean he enjoys being covered in soot from head to toe. Naruto returned just as Tanna finished frying the last okra and placing it beside the shrimp tempura and fried vegetables. Naruto went to help set the table, it would only be the two of them that night and proceeded to tell Tanna what had happened during the day. Apparently the three of them had to wait for Kakashi to show up for four hours past noon, they had taken out their lunch and eaten it.
Tanna blinked as Naruto then started to tell her how Sasuke, Sakura and himself had turned the whole grounds into a bear trap getting bored waiting. She was pretty sure that was different from the original events that had occurred and Naruto carried on about how Sasuke burried flammable material in the field. Tanna decided it was definitely way too different from the original where they were simply waiting instead of being proactive and setting traps. When Kakashi arrived after they ate lunch he took out a bell, she heard that right, it was one bell not two. Their mission was to successfully get that one bell from Kakashi without breaking it into pieces.
Tanna, 'Of course the premise will change, they have shown they are close to each other and are willing to work together.'
Naruto shivered, "I never realized how scary and strong ANBU could be till today nee - chan. Sasuke - kun is more determined to become an ANBU now."
Tanna, "Their job is to be both the first and the last defence of the village Naru - tan. It is to be expected."
Naruto grinned, "You should have seen the explosions though nee - chan. It was very beautiful, dattebayo. I did not know fire could be so pretty."
Tanna, "Only if you know what you are doing you can manipulate fire and turn it into a beautiful display."
Naruto, "Right! Leave the fire stuff to the Uchihas. Sakura was really impressed and guess what nee - chan, she can make multiple leaf clones now."
Tanna, "That is to be expected. She is one of the brightest minds in the Academy. Did you get the bell?"
Naruto, "We did, after getting our asses kicked multiple times. I also learned a very interesting fact about my clones."
Tanna, "You did?"
Naruto, "Yeah, turns out if a person who has a very low chakra count like Sakura uses it, it is hard to differentiate her from the clones."
Tanna, "My, that is absolutely fascinating."
Naruto, "Right? I was late because I had to add that fact to the jutsu department."
Tanna, "Hmm... You sound like you had fun today despite the serious test."
Naruto, "We did. Sasuke got a little annoyed he could not use all of his flammable traps but it was fun watching the ones he could use. We got a thorough scolding from Iruka - Sensei for burning the trees though. Our first mission is going to be fixing the training field we wrecked tomorrow."
Tanna nodded, "Makes sense. You will be the ones using it to train right?"
Naruto, "Yeah, I guess I cannot complain about it."
The rest of the dinner was spent with Naruto telling Tanna about how he and the others set up traps and how many flammable traps Sasuke set up. Tanna sweat dropped at that remembering all those fanfics about how the Uchiha were making her wonder if there was some truth to those fictional stories. She then shared her own stories about her day and the latest gossip she heard from Yoshino - chan. Naruto listened wide eyed as Tanna repeated the story about the petty neighbour war that was going on in the market district. His eyes were gleaming and Tanna wondered if she should stop sharing the petty ideas people had with Naruto.
Tanna, 'Nah! The more ideas he has the better his revenge pranks. Besides who knows it might help him escape from a sticky situation in the future.'
Naruto hugged her from behind, "Nee - chan, something else happened today."
Tanna paused her cleaning, "What else happened? Are you blushing?"
Naruto burried his face in her back, "What? NO! Yes, maybe?"
Tanna hummed, "What happened?"
Naruto, "Earlier Sasuke said once we become Chunnin we should get married."
Tanna, "He did WHAT? Why? I mean, I know he spends the most time with you since childhood but when did he start showing interest in marriage? Are you ok with that?"
Naruto, "I am not against it. We will be together so... But I don't know if I want to settle down that quickly."
Tanna sighed, "I see. Well, I will have to have a private talk with Mikoto soon. I will talk to Kakashi tomorrow."
Naruto, "Eh? I understand Mikoto obaa - chan but why Kashi - nii?"
Tanna, "He is your Sensei and he needs to stay above such developments and changes to guide your team better. It may not seem like a big thing but as the old saying goes, it is the small things that matter."
Naruto, "Fine! I wish Sakura - chan would stop gushing over how cute it is though."
Naruto mumbled under his breath, "And how she can now enjoy your cooking. I swear that is her main goal."
Tanna pat his back, "I am going to pretend I did not hear that last part and don't worry too much. As long as you are happy it is fine and you will always have my support."
Naruto, "Even if, even if I do not want to get married and want to stay single."
Tanna, "Even then. Heaven knows, shinobi already have a lot of things on their plates, the least I can do is give you support."
Naruto, "Love you nee - chan. You are the best."
Tanna smiled as they finished cleaning and retired to their own rooms though she took out a book and wrote down the difference between what happened that day and what originally happened in the series. Kakashi being the nosy shinobi he was had found the book and had asked if she was planning to make a story based on shinobi. Tanna had expected it and shrugged saying she was unsure if that was a good idea, she did not want to accidentally share village secrets though the idea has been in her head. The silver haired man had stared at her with an unreadable look and Tanna wondered if he had figured something out only to relax when Kakashi nodded.
Tanna had kept up with the book writing the happenings to Naruto and what happened in the series opposite of it. Kakashi would read it from time to time laughing at the absurdity sometimes, colouring the monument? If given the motivation Naruto would definitely do it in a heartbeat. There was even a chapter with an adventure for Sakura and Ino face slapping bullies, helping others and making friends. Tanna could admit she got a little carried away with the friendship is power theme, something that amused the ANBU but it made him less suspicious of her so win win. But she decided to be very careful after that, writing it in a draft story format and making different versions of the situation.
Tanna prepared breakfast, 'Thank you to the multiple fanfics I read about crossovers and gender bend starts. As ridiculous as you were reading it saved me from a trip to The T & I division.'
Naruto, "Nee - Chan, that smells good."
Tanna, "Omelette with toasted bread. Sit and eat, then you go meet your team."
Naruto hummed around a mouthful of food, "I was just thinking Kashi - nii has been late twice in a row. So, I think we should start on the clean up ourselves."
Tanna, "Well, it is just clean up. You don't need to add anything like seals to it do you?"
Naruto, "Nope, just fill up the holes and crater we made and fix the trees."
Tanna, "Sounds simple enough. You can do it by yourself I believe."
Naruto, "Yeah, I was thinking the same. I will see you around nee - chan. *muah* Bye!"
Tanna chuckled as she waved him farewell, her life had become sort of monotonous over the years. She knew it would but it was nice to have something to do and a source of income that she could spend. Some of the plus things in her life so far was, the taxes on the Uzumaki land was almost completely paid off. Akari, Toge and their two kids Kuroki and Shinju were living happily in the Uzumaki compound taking care of the East end. Naruto would be moving into the Southern end of the compound where his parents originally built their home together.
The Uchihas had a much better relationship with the rest of the village thanks to Lady Shijimi's intervention though people say it was her who started it. Tanna however differed from that and stood firm on the fact that all she did was defend her friend, if people took that as a sign for change then that was their choice. After all she was just a civilian at the end of the day and she did not even have chakra coils, something that she would like to be kept that way. So far, she had no troubles with anyone but with the start of the original series hanging over her head, she know that will change soon.
Naruto, "Good morning guys."
Sakura, "Good morning Naruto - kun."
Sasuke, "Hn, morning."
Naruto, "Still not a morning person I see."
Sakura, "Pretty sure it is an Uchiha trait. I remember when Ino invited the girls in our class for a sleepover, Ayako - chan hated waking up early too."
Sasuke grunted, "Hn, Sensei is not here yet."
Naruto, "I was thinking. We have to clean up the field we used yesterday right? So, we should just get to it instead of waiting."
Sakura mused the idea, "Good point there. I have no problem with the plan."
Sasuke started to move, "Better than just waiting around. Let's go."
One of the desk shinobi looked up as they entered, "Yes, how can I help you?"
Naruto, "Hello we are Team 7. We were scheduled for a D - ranked cleaning mission today."
A kunoichi with light brown hair spoke up, "I think I know which one that is... Here we are, Team 7, clean up training ground fourteen."
Sakura, "That's the one."
The kunoichi paused, "Where is your Sensei?"
Sasuke, "He is late again."
The shinobi looked slightly concerned, "Will you be alright?"
Naruto, "It's cleaning up a field not a crime scene. If we can't do that much by ourselves then we really do not deserve those head bands."
Sakura, "What he said!"
Sasuke, "We will be fine."
The kunoichi shrugged and the shinobi just sighed not being able to refute what was said, it was just clean up. Naruto beamed as they accepted their first mission and got to the field and each of them created clones that started to work along side them. First they filled up the many craters, holes and crevices that were created due to the explosions. That took the whole morning to finish even with the clones help, next were the trees with the broken branches. They had to cut off the branches and ensure the tree could grow properly even after the trauma from yesterday.
Sakura sent one of her clones along with Naruto's to get a solution to apply on the damaged area of the trees to help in healing and growth. While they were waiting they started to clean up the river that had ended up being filled with many fallen leaves and branches. They were lucky it had not started to rot yet but still worked as quickly as possible to take out the branches and leaves. The leaves were stored in jute bags while the branches were cut into pieces and placed in the sun to dry for firewood. Half way through the mission Kakashi showed up with a smile getting shouts from Sakura and Naruto while Sasuke rolled his eyes.
Kakashi, "My adorable students are so responsible."
Sakura huffed, "You could pretend to be a responsible one too."
Naruto, "Yeah Sensei. I thought you would never show up. It's already past lunch too."
Sasuke, "Hn."
Kakashi, "Did you have lunch?"
Naruto, "Of course we did. Nee - chan always packs lunch for us. She didn't have to, but she did."
Kakashi, "Good. Because you did a good job in finishing this mission I am going to train you after you have turned in the completed paperwork."
Sasuke, "Oh? What are you going to train us in?"
Kakashi, "Turn in the paperwork first and then find out."
