Ethan stopped speaking and grabbed Adelina's hand.
Startled by Ethan's unexpected action, she lifted her head and looked at him.
Their eyes met, and for a moment, they connected.
It was enough.
"You're not good at lying about something like that."
Adelina tried to pull her hand away, but it remained tightly within Ethan's left hand. Ethan began to caress her ring finger.
When she felt him touch her ringless finger, her face grew pale.
"If you had remarried, you wouldn't have looked at me with eyes like that. And your ring finger would have had a ring…"
She forgot about taking her hand back. She should have told him he was wrong, but her head had gone blank and she couldn't think of what to say.
When Ethan saw how bewildered she was, he let go of her hand.

He had always called her 'you', but now he was calling her 'you'.
