On the other side of the room.
The wall in front of the unsuspecting guard exploded in a cloud of dust and cobblestones, showering the library with splintering wood and a robust figure. Despite its red and muscular appearance, its form couldn't be fully perceived through the rain of rubble as it crashed into the guard. Even with his superhuman speed, the guard couldn't escape the grasp of the clawing hand that latched onto his throat like a vice.
For a fleeting moment, the two murderous psychopaths locked eyes—cold apathy, meeting madness. The pressure against the guard's neck increased tenfold, causing the ogre to splutter helplessly as he struggled for air.
The discordant choking spurred Jack into action. Hefting the ogre into the air, he slammed him against a nearby table. Unable to withstand the force, the furniture crumbled as the guard emitted a shrill shriek, retaliating with a thrust of his meat cleaver amidst their tussle.
Jack spots the incoming blade to the side of his head, so he wrenched his jaw open and maneuver to the side at an inhuman angle before biting down on the cleaver's spine, giving it a savage shake. The mutated arm strained as Jack effortlessly shook his head. In their tug-of-war, the metal protested against the two opposing forces with an audible groan.
After a few seconds, the guard's grip relented against the sheer power of Jack's jaw, coupled with the solid grasp of his titanium dental implants; it stood little to no chance.
The timing of the blade's integrity couldn't have been worse for Jack as it shattered into a dozen pieces. Miraculously, he managed to avoid cutting himself, smiling cruelly as his ginormous fist rose into the air; it fell with a devastating impact that reverberates the room.
A meaty crack rang out as the guard's nose broke, earning him a grunt of pain and discomfort. He gave a shriek of pain. However, Jack's grin turned feral, digging his fingers forward; he clawed roughly inside his left eye-socket. The eyeball, despite its supposed delicacy, amazingly didn't pulp outright from the initial strike.
In the end...
It didn't matter.
Jack forcibly shove his digits through the space around it, so with a snarl and a clenched fist, Jack Hanma ripped and tore, shredding the majority of his head as the far more delicate optical nerves that hung in the air briefly strained against his might before snapping in a spray of crimson. Jack huffed victoriously, shoving his fist yet again; he churned the brain cavity into a swirl of smoothie, for insurance he suppose.
"You guys are surprisingly hardy for a bunch of disease-ridden animals." Spitting into the disfigured head, Jack hummed casually, as if he hadn't committed a first-degree murder.
As Jack walked away from the corpse, the shadow behind his back receded as they were then illuminated, revealing yet another bulbous carcass of his kind.
This one, however, had his head twisted in a one-eighty degree with the majority of his teeth littered all over the floor; it was a quick and clean kill, quite unlike the mess he just made.
Venturing around the well-lit room, Jack picked a book from one of the bookshelves, only to return it after realizing that the contents were written in a cursive dialect he was unfamiliar with. The rest weren't any better. Losing interest, he headed straight to the door—only to find it locked.

The shabby door fell into the room with a loud crash, kicking up a cloud of dust. When the dust settled, he found himself in a small room with a table, a bookshelf, intricate flags on the walls, and a large red rug.
Moreover, in the center of the room was a cage, and inside the cage, a small figure was hiding in a corner.
Focusing on that direction, his eyes quickly adjusted from the dimly lit room as his face shifted from predatory to serenity.
As the kid within the cage's fearful shivering diminished, he or she had yet to met his / her eyes, preferring to hide with his/her raggedy apparel like an ostrich as he sighed helplessly. Walking forward, he easily bent the bars.
After a brief moment of consideration, he came to the conclusion that the child is far too skittish to make a move.
"Boy, you can get out now." His eyes slightly narrowed at the sight of malnourished wrists as she finally looked at him. "I'll also grab something to eat."
Whatever awkwardness he felt instantly evaporated as he checked the surroundings. He wasn't concerned about the kid leaving or not, but if danger came knocking, then he was confident that he could end them in the blink of an eye.
"Don't worry, this won't take long, but stay where I can see you." Tearing a flag along the way, he wipes himself clean of blood and grime before disposing it at the corner of the room.
After a few seconds of examination, he came to the conclusion that this was an office of sorts. Without an iota of food or drinks, he decided to venture out of the room and found himself in a narrow hallway made of cobblestones and dark as the midnight sky.
With his nose twitching, he headed straight for the barrel with a rising brow. A quick inspection made both of his eyebrows higher as he quickly rummage the contents, he found a foot-long salami covered in some mold that acted as a natural barrier to protect the salami from any competing mold or bacteria growth during the drying process, and a cheddar cheese.
Upon further inspection, it seemed that he lucked out as more dairy products were found... what in the world were they doing inside the barrel?
Upon his return, he found the girl stiffening in the door frame before she backed into the corner. Ignoring her apparent anxiety, he cradled the goodies as he entered the room before sweeping his leg to clean off the only table in the room.
Thus clattering the miscellaneous all over the place, after carefully dropping the edibles, he snapped the salami in half as he motioned the girl.
"Eat it." Handing it over to the girl's general direction, she momentarily hesitates as she frowns in contemplation... fortunately, her stomach won over skepticism. "You can sit down while I'll make something more edible." Jack said to the girl as he pulled out the chair for her to sit on. The girl looked surprised by his action as she anticipated nothing short of deception.
"Do you not understand the words coming out of my mouth?" Upon the lack of reaction, he switches from Japanese to English before stopping at Spanish as he let his actions do the talking.
The girl, cautiously eyeing the food, finally yielded to her hunger and took a bite of the offered salami. She hesitated but eventually sat down as Jack prepared a sandwich with meticulous care, the room now filled with the aroma of freshly assembled ingredients as he accurately snapped and arranged them.
The barrier between them remained, but Jack's actions spoke louder. As he handed her the sandwich, her eyes reflected with a certain understanding.
