Chapter 1 - Prologue: The Legend of Atlantis

Atlantis was the first place on earth where it was widely accepted that land ownership was a collective thing – every citizen shared the same rights, no matter if they were a king or a humble farmer. However, all these wonders and triumphs could not save Atlantis from its own people. The writings of the great philosopher Plato tell us that this advanced society was consumed by greed and power until the gods wept and sent great waves and earthquakes to take it beneath the sea. Atlantis was lost forever.

At the heart of the city sat the Royal Palace, an enormous structure lined with bright silver. Yet more precious metals can be found among the many rings of land and high-walled gardens that sprawled from the palace grounds, nestling within the circles of deep, surrounding rivers. The many unique and rare beasts housed within the Royal Menagerie were a source of great pride for the people of Atlantis, as were a number of thermals – great fountains that shot molten lava high into the air, such was the skill of the engineers.

Hundreds of years ago, deep in the wilds of the Atlantic Ocean, the island of Atlantis was a wondrous, thriving place, an example to the rest of the world. Its fame spread far and wide. The walls of the capital city were coated in gleaming white, red and black stone and adorned with solid brass. At night, these walls would shimmer in strange and beautiful colours as the last of the sunlight vanished and darkness took over. These cavernous walls were filled with golden statues and paintings of great deeds and minds, of long-forgotten battles and victories.
