November 1994
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Every injury on Barty's body reversed to its normal state in few minutes. After few minutes of the tremendous pain, Barty breathed deeply in exasperation. He was like a dog gasping for breath for taking the control back of his nerves.
He then saw Harry approaching him. His mind again went into frenzy thinking what new torture was going to be inflicted upon him.
But Harry let out a sweet smile and pointed his phoenix wand, now in his hands and muttered softly, "legilimens."
Barty as a wizard belonging to a pure blood family was well versed in the art of Occlumency. But it took not even few moments when he felt the barriers he had created as protection for his mind being teared apart like thin veils of paper.
Meanwhile, Harry though using legilimency for the first time felt no obstruction in using the spell. In moments, he tore apart the occlumency barrier of Bart and was inside his mindscape.
Barty's mindscape was the size of a decently sized room, but no where comparable to that of Harry. His mindscape though organised but still not very efficient.
Harry with his consciousness proceeded forward towards the memories of the death eater. As soon as Harry had crossed some distance, there was a ripple in the mind scape and creature emerged in front of Harry. It was a 6 feet long snake.
Harry was mildly surprised seeing this. Creating a creature like this for the protection was no easy feat and it showed the Barty Crouch jr. was a good enough wizard.
Even so, the snake was not full ethereal and was merely an outline. Harry did not even halt and merely swung his finger. A green slash of cutting curse left his finger and the snake was sliced into two and dissipated.
Harry proceeded forward and reached the recent memories of Barty.
With this Harry started to rummage through Barty's memories.

It took Harry around 2 hours to read all the relevant memories of Barty. Starting from the latest, he went on till Barty was rescued from Azkaban by his father.
He did not waste his time in going further back as he roughly knew the story.
With this Harry returned back to the latest memory of Barty i.e., from the point when he was captured by Harry.
Now was the time when Harry would show his true mastery of the mind arts.
With a wave of his fingers, the latest orb of these sections of memories were crushed. These memories were permanently deleted from Barty's mind.
Although, it seemed simple enough requiring only a wave of his hands, it was an extremely tough task. Extreme precision and accuracy were required to do something like this. A slight mistake could result into damaging the brain, turning the person into vegetable or even into death.
The most suitable example of this Bertha Jorkins, as Harry had learned from Barty's memories. During the time when she worked in the Department of International Magical Cooperation afterwards under Barty Crouch senior, she had discovered the truth about Barty Crouch jr. hidden in the Crouch mansion.
Having no option, Crouch sr. tried a memory modification charm on Bertha Jorkins. Although, he was successful in his endeavour, Bertha suffered a damage to her brain. After that event, she suffered from extreme forgetfulness until she was captured by Peter Pettigrew and then killed by Voldemort in Albania.

After deleting Barty's memories, Harry retreated from Barty's mindscape. At this point, Barty was unconscious.
Harry picked up Barty's small tin bottle and forced the Polyjuice potion into Barty' mouth. In moments, Barty transformed back to Alastor Moody.
Harry did not waste any time and levitated his body to the place where he had been captured. Harry remained hidden in one of the corridors and with a wave from his hand, Barty regained consciousness.
Barty felt a jolt and though he felt something different, he did not pay much attention. He let out a grunt like Alastor Moody and continued walking.

Harry sighed and returned back to the chamber of secrets. By now, he was aware of all of Voldemort's plans including his attack on the Azkaban.
Voldemort had initially believed that Peter, the rat and Barty jr. were enough to capture Harry but with recent revelations of Harry's magical power and political alliances, Voldemort knew he needed more power.
He did not have enough trust on death eaters outside Azkaban and hence he decided to breach Azkaban and rescue his most trusted servants, in which he was successful.
The attack on Hogsmeade was not a full-blown attack but rather a pry. Voldemort knew it would not be possible to take Harry alive from Hogsmeade so it was just a diversionary tactics. This was what Barty knew.
But Harry believed it to be a half baked truth. This must involve some more plans… Barty was unaware of which.
Although, Voldemort had delivered a successful blow, in the end it was Harry who got the advantage.
He did not act rashly and let Barty go because Harry did not want to make a mistake by premature and hasty actions.
After understanding Voldemort's plan, Harry needed to make a counter plan of his own. Voldemort was not on his full power and hence it was a golden opportunity for Harry. He did not want it to go to waste because of his rashness.
He needed to gather allies and deliver a decisive blow on Voldemort. Also, he still lacked two horcrux.
Hufflepuff's cup which Voldemort had given to Bellatrix and the Gaunt's ring. He knew the location of the Gaunt's ring but not of the cup.
To end Voldemort in one decisive blow, he needed to get to Bellatrix first. He needed the location of the Hufflepuff's cup.
