Chapter 16 - Voldemort's Memories

July 1994

4 Privet Drive

The most difficult task for Harry in these two weeks had been to go though Voldemort memories. Since Harry had no idea about the number of horcrux Voldemort and nor about the time when they were created, Harry had to go through all of Voldemort's memories.

Harry saw the time when Voldemort had been bullied in his orphanage and though he knew what a monster Voldemort was, he felt a little sympathy for the child Voldemort. Then he witnessed, Voldemort learning about his powers and became the reign of his cruelty. How he tortured the other children of the orphanage. At first, he only tortured his bullies then with power his mentality started to change and he started to consider everyone without powers as dirt on his shoes.

During this time only as a 10 year old kid, Voldemort started to dream about his world domination believing that he was unique and special with those powers.

Then came reality knocking down his gate in form of Dumbledore, informing a whole hidden world with the same type of powers and shattering all of Voldemort's illusion of him being unique.

Harry then witnessed all of Voldemort's life, his obsession with dark magic, his creation of horcrux and his reign of terror.

To witness what Voldemort did to innocent people left harry in a fit of rage and disgust. Harry almost puked many times on witnessing what Voldemort brought upon to people opposing him.

After all that Harry saw he actually understood what truly dark arts meant. Some time back for Harry, the three unforgivables were the epitome of true dark spells and dark magic but now he held different epitome. Compared to the range of the magical spell Voldemort held in his arsenal and how brutally he tortured his victims, Harry could confidently say that the unforgivable were child's play.

Harry ultimately had the knowledge of all the horcrux Voldemort created.

The first was the Riddle's dairy which Harry had already destroyed.

The second and the easiest to obtain was the Ravenclaw's diadem in a mysterious room inside Hogwarts called the Room of Requirements.

The third was Slytherin's locket hidden in a cave behind a ton of protection of dark magical curses and wards.

The fourth was Hufflepuff's cup, which he had given to Bellatrix Lestrange and had no idea of its current location. Though Harry was not sure but according to Voldemort's memories he had a guess that it was in Bellatrix's Gringotts vaults.

The fifth was a family heirloom of Gaunt's which Voldemort had taken from his uncle Morfin Gaunt, after when Voldemort had framed Morfin for killing the Riddle family. Feeling shame and disgust on his muggle lineage from his father's side, Voldemort himself had murdered the Riddle family including his father Tom Riddle Sr.

Harry afterwards also witnessed Voldemort's memories of the day he was murdered. He witnessed his father's heroic defiance against Voldemort and although James Potter was no match for the Dark Lord in his prime, James did never hesitate. Harry witnessed teary eyed how his father tried to hold Voldemort to buy time for Lily to escape with his mother.

Harry then witnessed his mother's downtrodden face when she begged Voldemort take her life and spare Voldemort. He witnessed Voldemort's offer to spare her and how she stubbornly stood in his way.

He witnessed his mother's death through Voldemort's memories. After which Voldemort fired a killing curse towards him and how the curse backfired. The backfired curse split Voldemort's soul into two. One which escaped and the other which leached on Harry's forehead.

Harry at first wondered why did his mother did not picked up her wand against Voldemort. From what he knew and the subtle observations he made from Voldemort's memories; Lily was much more magically powerful than James. And if she had helped his father there was a chance, though miniscule, to take down Voldemort.

But then after witnessing it multiple times Harry came to conclusion. Harry concluded that his mother had performed a certain ancient ritual to save Harry and its final requirement was a willing sacrifice of life. For the willing sacrifice to work Lily never picked up her wand to go against Voldemort and provided a certain protection for Harry against Voldemort.

And then that fool Dumbledore thinking himself to be the great and the most knowledgeable wizard, had tweaked the protection converting it into a blood ward, thus effectively ruining all the protection his mother had left and the last bit of its remaining power was used against Quirrell in his first year.

The other thing which Harry concluded was that Voldemort had no intention of him turning into horcrux and the split soul latching on his forehead was a pure accident.

The last memory of Voldemort which Harry had was of his soul wraith in Albania trying to find some kind of method to gain his physical body.

The other important thing which happened was that Harry realised was that he had eidetic memory and had perfect recall of everything since his birth.

From Sirius he had heard all what had happened after Voldemort was vanquished but Harry also saw everything from his perspective. He witnessed his mother's death from his own eyes and then Voldemort being vanquished.

Immediately after this he witnessed Peter Pettigrew was the first to arrive at the scene and as the coward, he was thinking Voldemort had been killed, got into panic, took Voldemort's wand and ran away from the scene.

The second person to arrive, before Hagrid took Harry, was Severus Snape, the person whom Harry hated the most, the person who was on the first position of the kill list of Harry Potter, even above Voldemort.
