After two days, Dion and Ava were discharged from the medical center and went back to their rooms.
"Yo, feels good to be back, ehh?" Alfred asked as Dion entered the room.
"I guess so," Dion said as he walked around the room. He had already grown tired of sitting on the bed in the medical center, so he didn't feel like sitting or lying down.
"This room never changes, same old look, same old trash and dirt," Dion said, scanning around and noticing the familiar clutter.
"There's a saying I coined, 'old is gold.' These bits are meant to hold onto memories!" Alfred replied.
"Well, I guess it's getting a bit too much," Dion said, kicking some of the littered items in the room.
Alfred sighed and said, "I reckon it's time to tidy up some rubbish then." He stood up to gather the cleaning materials as quickly as he could.
Dion began picking up a few items, getting the room tidy enough before thorough cleaning. As he was doing so, he noticed Alfred's black book, which he often reads.
Upon opening the book, Dion was shocked by the kind of writings inside. He was sure he had seen similar writing on Earth.
But the one before him was very different; it was nothing readable. Some were just like mere lines, some like shapes, while some looked like actual write-ups.
[Do you wush to decipher the write-ups?]
[You have one free trial] Viza said.
"Uhhhh, no thanks," Dion said as he dropped the book on Alfred's bed.
"Oi, careful how you chuck that about; it's got all the knowledge in the bleedin' universe in it," Alfred shot back as he walked in with the cleaning materials and saw Dion dropping the book.
"The book doesn't make sense, both on the inside and the outside. The cover is blank and black, with weird writings inside. How do you even know what they mean? Are you sure you're not just reading trash?" Dion asked as he grabbed a vacuum cleaner.
"It's all about consistency. You read about it during the day and suss out its meaning at night!" Alfred replied.
"Find its meaning at night? How?" Dion asked, surprised at how the book worked.
"Yeah, you know, in your dreams," Alfred said, noticing the shock on Dion's face.
"You clock and hear its meaning in your dreams when you kip."
Dion chuckled and walked towards his bed to start cleaning the room, while Alfred focused on his side, ensuring it was as clean as new.
Together, they tidied the room to the best of their ability, leaving it smelling even nicer.
As Dion raised his head, he noticed a small circular object resembling a wristwatch hanging from the ceiling. "That sure looks like another piece of trash. We've got to get it down," he remarked, moving closer and positioning himself to jump and retrieve it.
Unaware of Dion's actions, Alfred remained engrossed in his own tasks until he heard the sound of movement.
Turning to see what Dion was doing, he rushed over, cautioning, "Oi, steady on! Don't go busting my precious Illusionator."
"What did you just call it?" Dion asked curiously, having not caught the name initially.
"I call it the Illusionator. I use it to whip up illusions, like the ones I conjured on your first day here," Alfred explained, referring to the imaginary books he had conjured when Dion first arrived in the room.
"Oh, but it doesn't look like one," Dion remarked.
Slightly taller than Dion, Alfred jumped up and grabbed the object, bringing it down safely.
"This is how it works. It scans the object you wanna conjure, then brings it to life wherever you fancy," Alfred explained.
"How long does it take to scan?" Dion asked as he took the object from him, observing it carefully.
"Depends on the size of the object. Bigger ones take longer to scan," Alfred explained.
"Give that button a press, and it'll kick off the scan." Alfred added, pointing at a small button on the side.
Dion placed it on his wrist and pressed the button. A menu appeared on the screen displaying "Scanning, 1%."
Suddenly, an announcement meant for their room came through from The Box, "Sergeant Dion, you're needed at the Captain's office with immediate effect."
The message repeated itself before finally shutting down.
"Oh dear, I reckon it's not gonna be good news," Alfred said, shaking his head.
Dion remained silent, pondering what Alfred said and the announcement.
"No one gets summoned to the Captain's office without being in some shit. Must be something serious, and that Captain's only gonna make it worse," Alfred added.
"Well, whatever it is, I'm ready for it," Dion said as he removed the so-called Illusionator and passed it to Alfred before leaving the room for the Captain's office.
As he walked, his mind raced with what he possibly could have done. "Have they finally discovered I'm one of the Mistress's agents?" he wondered.
Standing by the door of the office, he heard her voice resounding from inside, "Come on in!" She must have seen him through the camera network in the base.
As he walked in, he saw a few Extinguishers leaving, their faces reflecting sadness or anger. They must have received a heavy scolding or ill treatment from the captain.
From just a mere look at her, one could tell she was a tough woman to deal with.
Dion walked to the Captain, now alone with her in the office, and stood by her desk.
"You asked for me, Captain?" he said.
She remained silent for some moments, her eyes fixed on the screen before her, watching some videos.
Dion was getting a bit impatient. She kept him standing without saying a word, her face wearing a curious look as she stared at the screen.
Dion wanted to say something when she finally responded, saying, "What are you, and how did you pull that off?"
