A young boy sat on a cliffside, his red hair flowing in the cold wind. He looked around sixteen to seventeen, wearing only pale grey clothes to protect himself from the freezing clifftop.
Suddenly, a piercing scream jolted him from whatever trance he was in. Looking back, he saw people dressed similarly to him fighting against security guards.
"What a bunch of idiots," He said A smirk forming on his face.
After eight years of being imprisoned, Rune escaped.
Eight years ago, Rune was discovered to be a powerful egoist. Sold by his parents at only eight years old, Rune hated every second he spent in the government facility.
The food was crappy.
The clothes were crappy.
He had to do experiments every day.
And the staff don't seem to consider him human.
The cause of the coldness was that Rune was an egoist. Like the rest of his kind, he was adept at manipulating humans and other living beings toward his ideals. It came in handy. With each minor influence, Rune's strength grew. The physical boost in power from his vast influence helped him escape. Rune stared down at his tattooed wrist. The writing there shimmered and changed slightly to update him. Rune sighed. "Nine? It used to be fifty." Still, nine beings under his control are better than none...
Rune then sat there in silence for a bit.
"What now?" he asked. "I'm free, so what do I do?" Maybe live your life as a citizen. "No, the government is against me; it won't work."
He thought about it for a bit.
"Mafia!" That would enable me to increase my power.
Rune grinned and started descending the cliff with a plan before being stopped and pulled back.
Landing on the ground, Rune looked up at his perpetrators.
One was a short, bulky man; beside him was a tall man; and at the very front was a really menacing guy.
As his battle instincts kicked in, Rune immediately went for the tall one to break his ankle. Instead of the expected cry of pain he expected, Rune was the one in pain as he looked at his foot.
"Shit, metal coating," he cursed to himself.
"You damn egoist!" yelled the short one as he kicked Rune in the side, "One of your kind took my girlfriend away from me!" He had this funny Scottish accent
"I can see why," Rune countered weakly.
"Ever since she started following that weird guy, it's never been the same!" He yelled, "All I ever wanted was for her to be happy, but then she kept asking for money and stayed out longer. I saw her handing out money to a strange-"
"I really didn't ask," was Rune's response
The man looked Rune dead in the eye.
"Well, I guess you're dead anyway."
The men proceeded to brutally assault Rune.
After they finished with him, the Menace spat on his face.
"It's your kind I really hate, manipulating people with no remorse," He said.
Rune looked up with anger in his eyes and silently thought to himself.
"That's the one I'm killing."
Noticing the stare, Menace smiled and kicked Rune back a bit.
However, this benefited Rune as he moved closer to the edge. Menace was the first to notice as he rushed to stop Rune.
Rune grabbed Menace by the collar and hurled them both to the snowy ground below, grinning widely.
When Menace regained his sight, he was shocked.
This redhead had just thrown him, as well as himself, over a cliff. Was he mad?
No, remember your training. Egoists always had a plan no matter what.
Menace threw a fist at Rune's jaw and tried to hold him by his collar; Rune retaliated by kicking him right in his family jewels.
As Menace let out a loud scream, a rain of bullets fell down on the two. The guy who lost his girlfriend yelled from above.
"Sorry, Bruce! Protocol says that Egoists are too dangerous to be let outside!" Still, he didn't seem to mind unloading his magazine.
"Shit, " cursed Menace, whose name is Bruce,
He needed to find what this Egoist was up to, and fast! Bruce still had a few seconds to go.
Bruce was desperately looking for something to save himself, disregarding Rune.
" Is he actually just suicidal?" The thought sent a shiver down Bruce's spine.
"No!" He rejected it!
"There's no way he would let it end like this!
Miraculously enough, the bullets had yet to hit their target.
"You!" Bruce tried to reach for his revolver.
Which was not there.
Instead, it was in the hands of Rune, who was pointing right at him.
"When did you-" Bruce did not get to finish that statement as a hole appeared in his forehead.
"au revoir," said Rune "Now, about landing,"
He brought the body below him, and as he neared the edge, he propelled himself upwards using Bruce as a platform.
He then landed softly on the snow. The operation was carried out smoothly.
"Yes, I'm free!" " Screw you! " exclaimed Rune.
Oh, gods, I'm free!"
However, Rune's joy did not last long. A sharp pain protruded from his side.
"Damn, they actually managed to hit?" He cursed while using Bruce's body as a shield.
Rune began to run across the snowy terrain; everything he saw was covered by snow or some rocky pillars. He then found a nice cave to sit in and decided to rest there.
After he assured his safety, he started putting on Bruce's clothes because they were better for this weather.
It consisted of,
Large black boots
A turtle neck
A large coat
A beanie
Some nice camo pants
and a revolver.
Rune laughed as he looked down at himself.
"I look like a bloody clown,"
Rune cursed as his vision started turning blurry.
"Not...good."
In the distance, he noticed a figure moving toward him.
"Are you alright?" it asked, the voice sounding feminine.
Rune gave out a bit of a chuckle.
"Are you blind?" was the last thing he said before falling unconscious.
