Katarina's POV
I watched the general nod before leaving us alone as the prince looked at me with a smile.
"Who knew you had it in you to be this good with words?" He closed the gap between us until he was breathing down my face.
"I don't know," I smiled. "Maybe if you paid more attention to me, you'll see that I'm more than a small farm girl who used to be blind."
We stayed staring at each other for a while before I cleared my throat and pointed to my cloak which had a few books I had stolen from the library.
"I have my research to go back on," I said. "You should… be practicing your fighting skills."
This had him nodding before he stepped back and walked out of the room, leaving me alone as I went back to the bed to sit and wonder why had just happened between us.
Was I having feelings for the prince?
I shook my head. I had to focus on the task at hand.
A bright light shone before me just as a large eyes showed up.
"You," I growled to my feet, rushing to the door to lock it as I turned to it. "You brought me here. Now I've tried my best to be a good person but I'm sick of it. This is blackmail and I want out. I want you to take me back to my world this instant. I demand it."
I heard a light chuckle before it spoke.
"You are in no position to make demands Katarina, or shall I say Jane?"
"Haha, very funny," I growled. "How can you do this to me? I was living my best life…"
"You were dead, murdered by your own sister and your husband."
"Ex husband!" I yelled. "And never for once did I tell you to narrate my life to me. I lived it."
"And you died in it. Jane's life has been filled with so much suffering and she wasn't fortunate like you to be from a well to do home. She wasn't even fortunate enough to get married to a rich person or have to be born in a time where she could be anything she wanted to be even if she was blind. You did."
"But it's harder in her world. I'm trying to make things work for her but no one wants anything to do with her. They don't want to see her as a woman whom they can be friends with or start a relationship with. All they see her as is a good for nothing blind girl. Even one guy I thought was starting to understand me only wanted to sleep with me."
"I am sorry that you had to go through all of this…"
"Does that mean you'll get me out?"
"You have a mission to fulfill, Katarina. Finish it and you have my word you will be taken to your own world."
I cussed silently at the floating eye before taking in deep breaths.
"Are you going to help me by getting me out of here?"
"No."
"What about giving Jane her happily ever after."
"No."
"Can you at least tell me what disease the prince has and give me the cure?"
"No."
"Then what good are you anyway?!"
I was so frustrated I looked at the window and decided that maybe jumping out and ending it was not that bad.
"If you end your life you not only end yours but anothers as well."
"Yeah, tell me something I don't know," I said to the eye as it slowly disappeared.
I knew I had to come up with a solution to the issue of the prince's illness.
With a sigh, I fell onto the bed and started to go through the books I had gotten.
A knock on my door had me to my feet as I headed to it to open it and found Trina standing there with a smile on her face.
"Can you see me?" She asked as I almost rolled my eyes but instead I kept my composure.
"Trina?" I asked like I had not seen her. "What are you doing here? Haven't you done enough?"
"Look, I'm here to apologize for my actions. It turns out that I was wrong and you were right. You really are blind."
"Thanks for letting me know about that. But if I'm being honest, I need to get back to living a life of solitude now."
I was about to slam the door shut when she held the door back.
"I'm not done yet," she said, getting closer to whisper into my ears. "Just because I could not prove that you were not blind doesn't mean that I like you staying here in this palace. You are not welcome here and I will do everything I can to get rid of you. So if I were you I would watch my back."
I gulped. That was a threat that I knew she could carry out.
"And one more thing," she said after stepping away from me. "Tell the prince about what happened now and you'll pay for it with your life. Are we clear?"
I gave a subtle nod as she nodded as well before leaving me at the door speechless.
How did we come to this?
Slowly closing the door, I knew I had to get out of here. The prince already had a lot to do. He had his health to care for and he also had the citizens of this kingdom.
I was just a fraud who was not supposed to be here. I should not be in this world.
I needed help. Did Jane seriously have no one in this world whom she could confide in?
Was she truly alone?
I suddenly remembered that Jane had a friend whom I had met a couple of times.
I had to meet her and know if we could rekindle that relationship. I needed her help.
