Chapter 10
Maddie's Mate
"Pyrokinesis, that's my power." Upon hearing that, their eyes widened once again. "You can control fire using your mind? That's awesome!" Cattie literally exclaimed. Ara slightly chuckled at their reaction. She's not using that power of her for a long time since it's not needed. The last time she used that was when she burned someone alive out of anger.
She really doesn't want to use her power if possible because if she uses it, she will end up killing someone. Her dark side sometimes takes over her whole system in the way that she becomes unconscious of whatever she does. She won't even remember what happened.
So, she's avoiding getting mad or feeling a strong emotion that might trigger her to show her dark side. Maddie clapped her hand, trying to catch Ara's attention. She's spacing out for the third time today. Is she really all right? Ara is really a mysterious girl.
"Oh, sorry. What were you saying?" Ara asked them when she came back to herself. Cattie smiled so widely, "We are clarifying if you're really a pyrokinetic." Oh, Ara nodded her head and showed a little fire on her palm. Their eyes lit up upon seeing the fire. It was so cool.
"I thought you were just joking, but you actually are. You can create and control fire. Does it hurt? I mean, does the fire burn your skin?" Maddie asked in curiosity. Ara shook her head and dissolved the fire on her hand.
"Nope, not really. It's hot but doesn't burn my skin. But just like the both of you, I can't control my power well, so I'm not using it." She half-lied and shrugged. Ara continued to fix the messy books on the shelves. While the two, they just stared at her with amazement in their eyes.
Cattie came closer to her and asked. "Why, though? Your power is considered one of the most powerful powers in the world. Why don't you practice and master using your power?" Ara looked at her.
"Yours too, plant manipulating is not a joke. Not all vampires can have it. Why don't you master it also?" She questioned back. That hits Cattie. She would like to, but she has no time, and one more thing: She's bound to work here until her contract expires, which is two years from now.
The contract to work here will last for six years; if you don't want to work here for six years, then quit immediately. The contract will give you one week as a trial. If you stay for one week, you can't leave the palace for six years. And if you love working here, renew the contract.
But, if you're chosen as a slave, it is so unlucky of you because you can't leave this palace anymore without the master or king's permission.
"I can't, but maybe later. I mean, mastering my power will cost a lot of time and effort. And at the moment, I needed to finish working here and save up money for myself and the future." She answered with a little sadness in her voice. Ara nodded in agreement. Training is a hard process.
Maddie tapped her friend's shoulder. "Mastering our power has no time limit; we can't do it now, but we will eventually." Cattie tapped her hand on her shoulder and smiled.
"Anyway, we should resume working again. I'm quite a little hungry; I haven't had my breakfast yet. Oh my, the same as you, Ara. I came early to your room and forgot to have our breakfast. I'm sorry." Ara smiled and shook her head.
"No worries, I'm not used to eating my breakfast either." She assured her. They started cleaning and fixing the whole library again. This library is not as big as the library on the ground floor. Maybe the large one is the main library. Ara was not sure, though.
"Is the library on the ground floor the main library?" She asked them while cleaning the base above the table. Maddie shook her head, "Nah, the main library was located on the last floor. It's two times bigger than the library on the first floor." She answered.
Ara's brow slightly lifted. On the third floor? She heard Mrs. O'Neil say that the king was the only one living there. Does that mean he's the only person who's using the main library? Oh, well, if he is… he really does love reading and studying.
"Oh, I see." She replied and nodded her head slowly. Cattie was about to add some answers to Ara's question, but the library's door suddenly opened. In the doorway, a man wearing armour standing straight with tulips in his hand.
Ara assumed this man was Maddie's mate. Oh well, it's quite obvious since he was looking at Maddie with so much love and longing in his eyes. Ara shifted her to Maddie. She's about to cry. Ara was slightly confused, but when Maddie and the Man ran towards each other, she understood it.
Her mate was probably away for a long time, so… they missed each other.
"You're really here. How are you? Are fine? Does anything hurt? I miss you so much, hon." Maddie emotionally said while hugging the man so tightly. There, she and Cattie were standing, watching how the two embraced each other.
The man captures Maddie's face and looks directly into her eyes. "Nothing's wrong with me, hon; I'm glad that I'm back. And I can't express now how much I miss you." He heartfully replied and placed his lips on her.
Cattie couldn't help but blush at the sight. She's used to seeing this before, but this is quite new. Ara was watching them, too; she saw that Maddie and the man were madly in love.
Maddie caressed the man's face, too. After the kiss, she smiled. She's glad that he's safe after the mission.
"Flowers for you, my lady." The man handed her the red tulips. Maddie smiled even more and accepted the flower.
"Oh, thank you." She said as she took the flower carefully from his hand. Ara's face became a blank page again. She felt a little sad. What she witnessed right now was the thing she won't ever experience. How pathetic is her life? Why was she bound and mated to the person she hated the most?
Cattie looked at Ara. She saw her looking intently at the couple. She wonders, what's inside her head? They didn't notice that Maddie and her man were standing in front of them.
"It's nice to see you back safe and sound, Adam," Cattie said with a smile on her lips; the man named Adam smiled back, too. "It's good to see you too, Cat. And oh, new face?" He said and then looked at Ara, who was still thinking deeply.
