Chapter 2

The Head of Maids

"Sure, let's forget about that," Ara told Cattie. She's still blushing hard and can't get over what she said. Yes, she adores the king, but that was only a simple crush. Cattie don't want to lose her head because she's lusting after the king.

Just thinking about it makes her blush even harder. On the other side, Ara amusedly looking at her. She had the idea of what she was thinking about. Rare ability to hear someone's thoughts. There's no privacy on her, but despite of that, she's not overusing her power. She's actually preventing herself from using that ability.

And one more thing, knowing someone's secret is invading someone's life. If possible, she doesn't want to hear their voices or just read their minds. Having this ability is sometimes a blessing but also a curse.

Ara shrugged off and just focus on walking, a few minutes later, they reached their destination. Cattie stopped walking and opened a door. "My room was just beside yours, and Maddie's room is quite far because she's staying with her mate slash fiancé." She informed her as they entered the room.

Ara looked around the area, this place is not bad. It's not big but not small either; it looks comfortable enough.

"Maddie already found her mate?" Ara asked without looking. From her peripheral vision, she saw Cattie nod her head.

"Yeah, lucky her. She saw her two years ago, Adam is a new warrior who just came out in a hard training." Ara nodded her head. She shifted her gazed on her, Cattie was looking at her.

"Oh, I see. How about you? Did you found your mate?" She asked again. Cattie shook her head and moved towards the bed. She sat at the edge while looking at Ara.

"No, I haven't, but I'm actually dreaming to find him. But again, I can't travel around to find him, so… let's just hope he'll be the one who will come around and find me." She answered hopefully. Ara dropped her luggage on the ground and went closer to her.

"You'll find him, not now but later." Thinking about their mate, Ara doesn't hope to find hers. There's no space for love in her heart, it was full of agony and hatred. She was blinded by the thirst of revenge.

"I hope so. Anyway, I'll leave you here now. Have a rest, I'll let you know when will be your orientation." Cattie informed her, and Ara just nodded her head.

"Sure, thanks for accompanying me." She answered and gave her a short smile. Cattie smiled back in return before waving her hand while getting out of the room. As soon as the door closed, Ara let out a sigh and sat down on the bed.

"I'm finally here." She mumbled and lay down on the bed. The bed felt so good; it was comfortable, but this place was killing her slowly. This place is beautiful for now, but I'll destroy it, in my ancestor's name, they will pay the sin they made, especially him. She swears in her mind.

She looked at the door when she saw it suddenly opened. There, she saw a lady in her mid-forties; who was this woman? She asked in her mind. Behind her, she saw Cattie, who was talking.

"Um, I told her to have a rest in the meantime. I thought you'd meet her tomorrow?" The woman raised one hand to stop her from talking.

"You can go now, Cattie. I don't want to waste this day for nothing," she said while looking at Ara. She's staring back at the woman, too. "And besides, you still have work in the garden. Help Maddie to water the plants; hurry up." She continued. Cattie pouted as she gave Ara an apologetic look, and Ara just nodded her head.

"Okay, Mrs O'Neil. I'll go ahead now, but please don't scare and torture her on her first day here." Mrs. O'Neil raised her brow.

"Do I looked that bad in your eyes? Go ahead now before I'll hit you," the woman jokingly replied. She even acted like she was going to hit her. Cattie laughed hard before leaving completely. Aras lips slightly lifted up on what she witnessed. Cattie and Mrs. O'Neil are probably close to acting this way.

When Cattie is gone, Mrs. O'Neil's attention went into her, she got off the bed and stands straight.

"Greetings, Mrs. O'Neil," She greeted her, but the woman just stared at her from head to toe.

"You looked young, how old are you?" she asked seriously.

"Twenty-Three, Mrs. O'Neil." She answered gently. The woman raised an eyebrow. She looked younger than her age. The fine young girl in front of her looked like she was just seventeen. Anyway, vampires look younger than humans does.

"Alright, Ex-human vampire or ordinary vampire?" She asked once again.

"Ordinary vampire, Mrs. O'Neil." She replied politely. Ara saw her and nodded her head, "As what I thought so. Okay, you'll start working tomorrow, but now, follow me and learn the simplest rules of this place. Come." Ara nodded her head and followed her.

As they were walking in the hallway, Mrs. O'Neil was introducing herself. "I'm Paulita O'Neil, the head of the maid here. You can address me anyway but should be politely, like Mrs. O'Neil, madam, don't call me by my name. Aside from it being a sign of disrespect, I hate how it sounds. Paulita my ass, my parent doesn't love me to named me that way."

'Why I can hear complaining in her voice?' Ara amusedly thought.

"Geez, anyway. Don't be too serious on me. I looked like this, but I'm not actually eating someone. I don't like the taste of vampire blood. It sucks." Ara nodded her head in amusement, all of the person she met here is quite nice. But's too early to give her judgement. She just saw them today, doesn't know who truly there are.

"You're quite weird. You don't talk too much."

"I don't usually talk; I prefer listening to talking," Ara answered honestly.

"Oh, I see. That's different, most of the girls around here talk a lot, like the lady earlier, Cattie and her best friend Maddie. Did you meet her, too?" She nodded, "Yeah, I already met her."

Talking with this person make me lost words, she really doesn't talk too much. Weird. Mrs O'Neil thought while taking a gaze at her. This girl had a mysterious aura, and she needed to keep an eye on her.

"By the way, can I ask something?" Ara looked on her.

"Sure, go ahead, Mrs. O'Neil."

"What is your reason why you wanted to work here?" That's a direct to the point question, Ara understood why she's doubting her intention now.

"The reason is simple: I have no place to stay. I'm an orphan, and living alone is hard. I know you understand that, right? So, I come up with an idea, what if I'll work at the palace as one of the servants? I heard that as long I work here, I won't problem food and the shelter." Mrs. O'Neil nodded her head in understanding.

"Reasonable enough, you're right. It's hard to live alone. May I ask what happened to your parents?" Ara lowered down her gaze, she doesn't want to remember the past, but she needs too.

"Dead." She answered simply, her voice was low.

"Sorry about that, dear. Enough with that, walk faster, I'll show you our first destination." Ara nodded her head.

"Please lead the way, Madam."
