A loud gasp.
Spheris opened his eyes.
Above him was a moon, a beautiful moon glowing silver on the stretching expensive night sky. There were stars in the sky as well, and the wind brushed through his face in a melodic motion.
He frowned. Where was he?
Pulling himself up to his feet, Spheris looked right and then looked left, then he staggered a little further and looked at the horizon. What? How was he here? Where was this?
Spheris was on a hilltop, but it wasn't like the normal hilltops he was used to. It wasn't even like the ones of The Abyss. It was warped.
The ground beneath his feet felt uneven and twisted, the grass squeezed like snow under the weight of his boots. There were crooked trees all around him, and their branches seemed to be growing at that very moment, stretching out to him.
