At noon on a summer day, the scorching sun's heat was so intense that even the cicadas were less inclined to chirp. The roaring of a motorcycle echoed from the head of the village as Lao Tian's daughter, donning a hat and her face shielded by a scarf, zipped back home like a gust of wind.
Upon hearing the commotion, Tian Tian's mother rolled over and sat up, quickly rising from the bamboo mat. While fanning herself, she rushed out the door with a face full of hope:
"How did it go?"
Removing her hat, Tian Tian's cheeks were steamed a deep red. She headed straight to the tap to wash her face, muttering indistinctly:
"Nothing much."
As her mother, how could she fail to understand what that meant?
Her complexion turned instantly despondent, "I specifically asked them not to mention our health issues, how could it still not work?"
